Microwave hydrothermal flash synthesis of nanocomposites Fe–Co alloy/cobalt ferrite
2004
Abstract The present article presents, for the first time, the last developments reported for an original microwave hydrothermal flash synthesis of Fe–Co alloys (FeyCo1−y)/cobalt ferrite (Fe3−xCoxO4) nanocomposites. Synthesis was performed in alcoholic solutions of ferrous chloride, cobalt chloride and sodium ethoxide (EtONa) using a microwave autoclave (The RAMO system) specially designed by authors. Compared with conventional synthesis, smaller grains (100 nm compared to 1 μm) can be produced in a short period (e.g. 10 s) using a less basic medium. In all the cases, the microstructure and the amount of metal inside the composite particles are very different from the product obtained via a…
Effects of CuO doping on structure, microstructure and dielectric properties of BaTiO3–PbTiO3 solid solution
2019
Ba0.7Pb0.3TiO3 and Ba0.7Pb0.3TiO3+yCuO (y = 0.1 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1 wt% and 3 wt%) samples were prepared by a solid state reaction method. High purity raw materials were used. Structural properties of the sintered pellets were studied by X-ray diffractometer X’Pert PRO (PANalytical). A single phase of perovskite structure with tetragonal phase was identified at room temperature. The surface morphology of the obtained specimens was characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (Hitachi S4700). The investigations has shown that the synthesized ceramic materials are characterized by the high density, homogeneity of microstructure and low porosity. Dielectric spectroscopy was used to study the …
Crystallization and microstructural development of nickel-containing aluminosilicate glasses with cordierite stoichiometry
2001
Abstract The crystallization behaviour of two glasses with chemical compositions MAl2O4/SiO2=1/2.5, being MNi and equimolar mixtures of Mg and Ni, was investigated. Glasses were prepared by cooling samples melted at 1650 °C. During thermal treatment over the range of temperature up to 1200 °C both glasses were first crystallized to form a β-quartz solid solution, then transformed to α-cordierite or spinel depending on the amount of nickel. The temperatures of both the crystallization of β-quartz solid solution and its further transformation were also dependent on the nominal amount of nickel. Lower temperatures were found for glasses with a large amount of nickel. UV–Vis diffuse reflectanc…
Cobalt aluminate spinel-mullite composites synthesized by sol-gel method
1997
Abstract CoAl 2 O 4 spinel-mullite composites were prepared by double substitution of Al by Ti and Ni in stoichiometric 3:2 mullite. Gels with compositions 3(Al 2 − 2 x Co x Ti x O 3 )·2SiO 2 (x = 0.025, 0.05 and 0.2) and 3(Al 2 − 2 x M x O 3 )·2SiO 2 (x = 0.05; M = Co 2+ or Ti 4+ ) were synthesized by sol-gel techniques. The structure of the gels was investigated by infra-red spectroscopy. Heating gels at 750 °C produced an amorphous silicoaluminate network. The reaction sequence was investigated by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. All samples crystallized at temperatures lower than 1000 °C from the amorphous state. Al-Si spinel and/or …
Phase-separation-induced changes in the magnetic and transport properties of the quaternary Heusler alloyCo2Mn1−xTixSn
2010
The quaternary Heusler compound ${\text{Co}}_{2}{\text{Mn}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\text{Ti}}_{x}\text{Sn}$ with $x=0$, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1 shows a phase separation into the two Heusler compounds, ${\text{Co}}_{2}\text{MnSn}$ and ${\text{Co}}_{2}\text{TiSn}$. Only at the edges of the composition range a slight admixture of Mn and Ti to the respective other phase is observed. This phase separation leads to a distinct microstructure which can be altered by the composition of the material. Pronounced changes in the magnetic and electronic properties take place with varying composition. Two magnetic transitions occur which indicate different Curie temperatures for both phases. The reduct…
Properties of sintered Al substituted NdFeB magnets
1998
The effect of partial substitution of Fe by Al (Al, Al 2 O 3) on the magnetic properties and the corrosion resistance of the sintered NdFeB magnet has been investigated. With the increasing amount of Al, the anisotropy field and the saturation magnetization decrease, but the coercivity increases up to 4 at.% Al and further alloying of Al leads to a decrease of the coercivity. Different substances like Al (metallic Al or Al 2 O 3) modify the microstructure to different increase in the coercivity and especially to changes in the remanence. Alloying Al via metallic Al decreases the remanence, whereas via Al 2 O 3) up to 4 at.%0 Al increases it. The Al additions inhibit atmospheric corrosion o…
Influence of Plastic Deformation on the Corrosion Behaviour of As-Cast AlMg2 and AlCu4Mg1 Aluminium Alloys in NaCl Solution
2015
The influence of plastic deformation on the corrosion behavior of as-cast AlMg2 and AlCu4Mg1 aluminum alloys was studied at the microscale using the Electrochemical Microcell Technique and surface microgauges. It was shown that large strain gradients develop locally. The corrosion behavior of both alloys was affected by plastic deformation. The most active sites contain large strain gradients in AlMg2 and cracks with damage in the matrix in AlCu4Mg1.
Water retention behaviour of compacted and reconstituted scaly clays
2020
The paper presents the results of an experimental research devoted to investigate the response to suction variations of a scaly clay in compacted and reconstituted conditions. Different experimental techniques (axis translation, vapour equilibrium, dew point psychrometer suction measurements) were combined in order to explore the water retention properties in a wide suction range (0 ÷ 110 MPa). Experimental results allowed to define the water retention domains for a constant reference void ratio, highlighting the significant role of the microstructure on the response of the investigated clays. In particular, the collected results showed that in the low-medium suction range, the peculiar mic…
MgO surface microstructure and crystalline coherence of Co/Pt superlattices
1998
We report the growth of Co/Pt(111) superlattices sputtered onto MgO(111) substrates of different surface quality. Long-range structural coherence in the Pt-seed layers and the superlattices could only be obtained on specially re-polished substrates. In seed layers and superlattices grown on miscut re-polished substrates suppression of abc versus acb stacking was observed.
On the possibility of synthesizing multilayered coatings in the (Ti,Al)N system by RGPP: A microstructural study
2019
International audience; Radiofrequency magnetron sputtering combined with reactive gas pulsing process was used to synthesize two titanium aluminum nitride multilayer films using a periodically controlled nitrogen flow rate changing from 0.4 to 1 sccm (sample S04-1) and from 0 to 1 sccm (sample S0-1). A metallic TiAl buffer layer was deposited on the etched substrates before the deposition to enhance their adhesion. The films were characterized using mainly transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The role of the crystallinity of the buffer TiAl metallic layer deposited before gas introduction on the growth orientations is emphasized. It is shown that the formation of a mu…
