Compliance to therapy with Dapoxetine in patients affected by Premature Ejaculation

2012

Introduction Premature ejaculation (PE) is a sexual dysfunction with high prevalence. According to some reports, it is present in about 20-30% of the male population. Since 2009 PE has been treated with a novel inhibitor of serotonin re-uptake, Dapoxetine, which has been reported to be specifically active for PE. Materials and Methods 59 patients have been selected among the patients affected by PE observed at the outpatient department of Urology and Andrology of the “Paolo Giaccone” University Policlinic Hospital of Palermo. Diagnosis was confirmed unequivocally in all patients, who were suitable for drug treatment and accepted to participate in the study. They were divided in 2 groups: on…

Angiotensin-converting enzyme gene deletion polymorphism determines an increase in frequency of migraine attacks in patients suffering from migraine …

2000

Many authors have reported an association between the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-D allele and coronary heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases. The mechanism underlying the positive associations between the ACE-D alleles and diseases are not yet clear. Previous reports showed an association between migraine without aura and ACE-D allele polymorphism. The study is aimed to evaluate if the DD genotype could also be associated with the frequency and duration of migraine without aura. In 302 patients suffering from migraine without aura (at least for 1 year), with no history of cardiovascular diseases and major risk factors for ischemic events, the genotypes of the ACE gene, pl…

Stratified Care vs Step Care Strategies for Migraine

2000

ContextVarious guidelines recommend different strategies for selecting and sequencing acute treatments for migraine. In step care, treatment is escalated after first-line medications fail. In stratified care, initial treatment is based on measurement of the severity of illness or other factors. These strategies for migraine have not been rigorously evaluated.ObjectiveTo compare the clinical benefits of 3 strategies: stratified care, step care within attacks, and step care across attacks, among patients with migraine.Design and SettingRandomized, controlled, parallel-group clinical trial conducted by the Disability in Strategies Study group from December 1997 to March 1999 in 88 clinical cen…

Comparison of Electrocochleography and Video Head Impulse Test findings in Vestibular Migraine and Ménière Disease: A Preliminary Study

2020

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate electrophysiological findings among patients with vestibular migraine (VM) and to compare them with those of patients suffering from definite Ménière disease (MD) without migraine. MATERIALS and METHODS: Twenty-one consecutive patients suffering from VM were enrolled; all subjects were selected according to the criteria proposed by the Bàràny Society for Neuro-otology. Each patient underwent a careful otological and neurotological examination. After completing a questionnaire regarding migraine and vertigo complaints, they were assessed by audiometric testing, video head impulse test (vHIT), and elec-trocochleography (EcochG). Data were compared with those of 21 pati…

Validity and reliability of the Migraine-Treatment Optimization Questionnaire.

2009

Our aim was to establish the validity and reliability of a patient-rated Migraine Treatment Optimization Questionnaire (M-TOQ in primary care. Patients who met International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd edn criteria for migraine completed a 19-item questionnaire containing candidate items for the M-TOQ and three questionnaires designed to test convergent/construct validity [Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), Headache Impact Test (HIT)-6 and Migraine-Specific Quality of Life Scale (MSSQoL)]. A 15-item (M-TOQ15) and a five-item (M-TOQ-5) questionnaire were derived. Two hundred and fifty-three adult patients were recruited. Five treatment optimization domains were iden…

Side-effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in the treatment of tennis elbow

2002

Apart from a few observational reports, there are no studies on the side-effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in the treatment of insertion tendopathies. Within the framework of a randomised, placebo-controlled, single-blind, multicentre study to test the effectiveness of ESWT in the case of lateral epicondylitis (LE), side-effects were systematically recorded. A total of 272 patients from 15 centres was allocated at random to active ESWT (3 x 2000 pulses, energy flux density ED(+) 0.04 to 0.22 mJ/mm(2) under local anaesthesia) or placebo ESWT. In all, 399 ESWT and 402 placebo treatments were analysed. More side-effects were documented in the ESWT group (OR = 4.3, CI = [2.9; …

Detection of possible factors favouring the evolution of migraine without aura into chronic migraine

2012

In a minority of cases, the natural history of migraine without aura (MO) is characterised over time by its evolution into a form of chronic migraine (CM). In order to detect the possible factors predicting this negative evolution of MO, we searched in our Headache Centre files for all clinical records that met the following criteria: (a) first visit between 1976 and 1998; (b) diagnosis of MO or of common migraine at the first observation, with or without association with other primary headache types; (c) <15 days per month of migraine at the first observation; and (d) at least one follow-up visit at least 10 years after the first visit. The patients thus identified were then divided into t…

Lower-half facial migraine: a report of 11 cases.

2004

Purpose Vascular pain of the face constitutes a variant of pain of the head, and includes migraine, cluster headache, paroxysmal hemicrania, and a facial variant of the so-called lower-half migraine. Lower-half facial migraine is a condition difficult to classify; according to the international classifications it could not be found as an individual entity. The objective of the present study is to determine the difficulties we encountered in diagnosis, the ineffective treatments provided, and the pharmacologic treatment effect. Patients and methods A study is made of 11 cases of lower-half facial migraine, corresponding to 10 women and 1 man (mean age, 35 years), commenting on the clinical c…

Analysis of the upper cervical spine stiffness during axial rotation: A comparative study among patients with tension-type headache or migraine and a…

2017

Abstract Background Many studies reported the implication of the cervical musculoskeletal system in patients with tension type headache and migraine. The objective of this study is to investigate the upper cervical spine stiffness features in axial rotation among headache patients in comparison with a healthy population. Methods 48 subjects including 30 migraine patients with/without aura and 18 patients with tension-type headache, aged between 18 and 60 years (mean 36, SD 11 years) have been evaluated. Stiffness measurements were carried out for passive axial rotation using a torque meter device. The flexion-rotation test was used to emphasize assessment of the upper cervical spine. Findin…

An Integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program for Adults With Migraine: A Feasibility Study

2019

Objective To present a novel cognitive behavioral therapy program that was developed exclusively for adults with migraine, and to assess the feasibility of this program. Background Unlike previous efforts, we combined different approaches of behavioral therapy into one program: relaxation therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trigger management. Methods The treatment program consists of 7 sessions (including psychoeducation, lifestyle counseling, coping with fear of attacks, trigger management, and stress management). The research was conducted in a single-group study with N = 9 completers (age: M = 41.6, SD = 17.6 years; N = 8 female, N = 1 male; N = 5 migraine without aura, N = 2 migrain…
