Vulnerability in Migration: The Applicability of European Recommendations, International Reports and Guidelines to the Italian System of Reception an…
2018
The European Parliament’s Report focuses on the integration processes for a particular category of refugees, considered as belonging to “vulnerable groups”, namely women seeking international protection and female refugees. Women seeking international protection or refugees, in fact, are bearers of demands and needs which, in part, are specific to all those people who, often forced to abruptly abandon their countries of origin, seek protection in host countries, bringing with themselves a heavy burden of persecution, war, violence and poverty. The humanitarian response along the routes of the eastern Mediterranean and the western Balkans has set as a priority the introduction of measures to…
Vulnerability, freedom of choice and structural global injustice: The “consent” to exploitation of migrant women workers
2019
This chapter analyzes the philosophical implications related to the “position of vulnerability” defined by the Directive 2011/36/EU on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Protecting its Victims as “a situation in which the person concerned has no real or acceptable alternative but to submit to the abuse involved” (art. 2.2). In particular, the chapter focuses on the “choice” made by migrant women employed in care and domestic work and in the agricultural sector in Italy. The Italian labor market is marked by the exploitation of migrant women, especially women from Romania, due to social, economic and legal factors that will be considered from a gender perspective. Women…
Meticciamento regressivo: donne migranti e donne palermitane
2020
2020
Today, the identification of migrants with asylum seekers and the overestimation of inflows – also referred to as the “refugee crisis” – has meant that Italy, as a politically strategic borderland of Europe, coincides with a battleground between sovereign drives and solidarity tensions. If refugees are the most visible object of political contention, governance operated by Ngo’s and, more generally, by civil society, sees women in the front row in a battle aimed at re-humanizing politics. The clash, which lasted for weeks between Captain Rackete of Sea Watch 3 and Minister Salvini, did not only represent a confrontation between reception policies and rejection policies, between the dehumani…
Professionisti dell'accoglienza in Sicilia. Riflessività e consapevolezza in tema di violenza di prossimità.
2020
The article describes the results of a qualitative research, finacied by EU aimed at knowing the degree of recognition of th…
L'Espagne, un nouveau pays d'immigration : l'exemple des immigrées roumaines (analyse comparative)
2013
This survey focuses on the immigration phenomenon in Spain and its impact on contemporary Spanish society. Studying how numerous immigrants have been settling in Spain is a way to account for the evolution of Spanish society: on the one hand by analysing how and why a country that traditionally used to export its labour-force could attract immigrants; and on the other hand by examining how Spain has been managing these influxes. This phenomenon shall be approached thanks to the case of Romanian women. For the last couple of years, Romanians have been the largest group of foreign nationals in Spain. I shall herein set to describe the various stages and characteristics of Romanian immigration…
Maternal representations and risk factors for depression in the migration process.
2013
During pregnancy and after childbirth women develop specific representations, expectations and fantasies about themselves and their children. Pregnancy involves both physical changes and relational and affective ones. The mother’s role is a culturally transmitted element that conveys values, myths and rules; birth can be considered as a cultural event with unique characteristics. A multi-factorial model is useful for tackling motherhood and depressive symptoms in migrant women, before and after delivery. The aim of this study is to analyse the motherhood experience in migrant women; data were collected during pregnancy and after delivery in order to evaluate maternal representation (IRMAG, …
Parenting e culture a confronto. Un’indagine esplorativa*
2010
2010
Pregnancy involves physical changes but also relational and affective ones. During the nine months’ period and in the months following the birth, women develop a series of expectations and fantasies about themselves and their child. The way women live their motherhood expresses, in addition, the cultural values, the myths, the rules society has transmitted to them. Then, birth can be considered as a cultural event with distinctive features. Moving from these considerations, we wondered how immigrant women live their experience of motherhood in a foreign country. We examined the way women reconstruct the history of their pregnancy in relation to their own maternal identity, the identity of t…
