Regression imputation for Space-Time datasets with missing values

2009

Data consisting in repeated observations on a series of fixed units are very common in different context like biological, environmental and social sciences, and different terminology is often used to indicate this kind of data: panel data, longitudinal data, time series-cross section data (TSCS), spatio-temporal data. Missing information are inevitable in longitudinal studies, and can produce biased estimates and loss of powers. The aim of this paper is to propose a new regression (single) imputation method that, considering the particular structure and characteristics of the data set, creates a “complete” data set that can be analyzed by any researcher on different occasions and using diff…

2-(Benzylsulfanyl)pyridineN-oxide

2008

In the title compound, C12H11NOS, the dihedral angle between the oxopyridinium and phenyl rings is 58.40 (1)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by C—H...O hydrogen bonds, π–π stacking interactions involving the pyridinium rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.6891 (9) Å] and C—H...π interactions.

Establishing Video Game Genres Using Data-Driven Modeling and Product Databases

2015

Establishing genres is the first step toward analyzing games and how the genre landscape evolves over the years. We use data-driven modeling that distils genres from textual descriptions of a large collection of games. We analyze the evolution of game genres from 1979 till 2010. Our results indicate that until 1990, there have been many genres competing for dominance, but thereafter sport-racing, strategy, and action have become the most prevalent genres. Moreover, we find that games vary to a great extent as to whether they belong mostly to one genre or to a combination of several genres. We also compare the results of our data-driven model with two product databases, Metacritic and Mobyga…

The Variability of the Photosynthetic Unit in Chlorella Fusca

1984

The concept of the photosynthetic unit (PSIT) was introduced by Gaffron and Wohl (1936) on the basis of Emerson and Arnold’s flash light experiments (1932). The PSU was defined as the minimum of chlorophyll molecules required for the evolution of one O2. Later on, the PSU was considered to be the complex of one reaction center and its appropriate antenna of light harvesting chlorophyll molecules. Assuming that there is an equal number of the PS I and PS II reaction centers the PSU was mostly expressed as Chl/P-700. However, recently it could be shown that the ratio of PS II/PS I is variable depending on the light conditions during growth (Kawamura et al., 1979; Myers, Graham, 1982). Further…

Use of the KSVM-based system for the definition, validation and identification of the incisional hernia recurrence risk factors

2019

BACKGROUND: Incisional hernia is one of the most common complications after abdominal surgery with an incidence rate of 11 to 20% post laparotomy. Many different factors can be considered as risk factors of incisional hernia recurrence. The aim of this study is to confirm and to validate the incisional hernia recurrence risk factors and to identify and to validate new ones. METHODS: In the period from July 2007 to July 2017, 154 patients were selected and subjected to incisional hernia repair. The surgical operations were conducted under general anaesthesia. Patients received antibiotic prophylaxis when indicated, according to the hospital prophylaxis scheme. Inclusion criteria of the study…

Acquisition, filtering and toll data processing system for obtaining origin-destination matrix and travel times on highways

2012

This paper presents an acquisition, filtering and real-time toll data processing system that provides a base for resolution and generation of studies and models of behavior on highways. Crossing points estimation, speed calculation, study traffic flow, travel time estimation and stopping points can also be provided. The complexity of processing with supplied data volume makes indispensable a less relevant information filtering. This filtering can be done through indicators such as speed or nullity of fields and a performance improvement job in database level using views, materializations, partitioning and parallelism. A web application called MODA has been developed. This application make e…

Controlling false match rates in record linkage using extreme value theory

2011

AbstractCleansing data from synonyms and homonyms is a relevant task in fields where high quality of data is crucial, for example in disease registries and medical research networks. Record linkage provides methods for minimizing synonym and homonym errors thereby improving data quality. We focus our attention to the case of homonym errors (in the following denoted as ‘false matches’), in which records belonging to different entities are wrongly classified as equal. Synonym errors (‘false non-matches’) occur when a single entity maps to multiple records in the linkage result. They are not considered in this study because in our application domain they are not as crucial as false matches. Fa…
