Flora Ossette’s ‘feminist visibility’ in her translation of Olive Schreiner’s Woman and Labour
2011

The secularization of Marian miracles in Miquel Peres’ La vida de la Verge Maria
2017
In this paper I discuss the whole of Ma…
« Making Sense of Wilfred Owen’s Keatsian Heritage: “Exposure” and “Ode to a Nightingale” »
2020
Readers of Wilfred Owen usually agree that the war poet’s early admiration for John Keats faded after he enlisted in the army; his poetry then turned against Keats’s. The opening paraphrase of Owen’s poem “Exposure” is thus often read as a rejection and a subversion of the Romantic poet’s “Ode to a Nightingale.” This essay will argue that Owen’s poem can be seen as a radical reversal of Keats’s ode. While “Exposure” is indeed more violent and political than “Ode to a Nightingale,” it does not depart from Keats’s conception of human suffering and of nature. Instead, the war poem builds on Keats’s fleeting description of suffering humanity in “Ode to a Nightingale” and extends it. It also ech…
Marlowe and Company in Barnfield’s Greene’s Funeralls (1594)
2013
The accomplished and daring but minor poet Richard Barnfield (1574-1620) was among the first poets to engage creatively with the works of Greene, Marlowe, and Shakespeare. This article argues that Sonnet 9 in Barnfield’s Greene’s Funeralls (1594) reveals not only his admiration for these literary innovators, but also his difficult manoeuvres on the fringes of the group of poetic rivals. Barnfield’s often-quoted, but not fully understood “sonnet” reflects the young poet’s attempts to accost his more famous contemporaries and also sheds light on the date of composition of Doctor Faustus (B) and the early circulation of Shakespeare’s “sugred sonnets”.
Ierogamie, euritmie e ierotopie mariane in Sicilia.
What…
Potential use of 68Ga-apo-transferrin as a PET imaging agent for detecting Staphylococcus aureus infection.
2010
Abstract Introduction 67 Ga citrate has been extensively used to detect infection and inflammation since 1971. However, its clinical utility is compromised due to several limitations. The present project explored whether 68 Ga- apo -transferrin ( 68 Ga-TF), when prepared in vitro, is a useful agent for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of bacterial infection. Methods An infection was induced in male Wistar rats by injecting 5×10 5 CFU units of Staphyococcus aureus in the right thigh muscle. 68 Ga-TF was synthesized by mixing 68 GaCl 3 with apo -transferrin (TF, 2 mg) in sodium carbonate (0.1 M, pH 7.0) and incubating at 40°C for 1 h. Animals were injected with 10–15 MBq of 68 Ga-TF…
A High Throughput, Minimally Invasive, Ultrasound Guided Model for the Study of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections and Device Encrustation …
2014
Purpose Catheter associated urinary tract infections are one of the most common health care associated infections. The condition is frequently complicated by encrustation, which blocks the catheter lumen. Preclinical research is limited by the lack of relevant high throughput and cost-effective animal models. Current models are restricted to female mice, associated with major transurethral loss of catheter materials during micturition, highly invasive and complex. We present an ultrasound guided, minimally invasive model that enables catheter associated urinary tract infection and catheter encrustation studies in each mouse gender. Materials and Methods Catheter segments (4 mm) were implant…
Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: What's New in Medical Treatment?
2018
Abstract Context Pharmacological treatment is a cornerstone in the management of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Objective To review emerging evidence in the medical treatment of LUTS. Evidence acquisition An Embase/Pubmed-based literature search was conducted in December 2017, screening for randomized controlled trials (RCTs), prospective and retrospective series, animal model studies, and reviews on medical treatment of LUTS. Evidence synthesis The main medical innovation in recent years in overactive bladder (OAB) has been the approval of the first β 3 -adrenoceptor agonists (mirabegron) and intradetrusor onabotulinum toxin A, while several other drugs such as antiepil…
