Motivational Challenges of Engineers Participating in an Online Upskilling Program
2022
The present powerful surge of available online learning platforms will provide employees with enhanced opportunities to rapidly develop their skills, regardless of time and place. Despite the potential, there are challenges for participants on online learning platforms to finalise the courses they engage in. The reasons for the high number of students dropping out before completion of the course are motivational, social, and technological. Studies show that large skill gaps exist among industry employees worldwide. It is often caused by the implementation of new technologies, digitalization, as well as increasing requirements on sustainability and resilience. E-learning provides a major opp…
On personalized adaptation of learning environments
2017
This work is devoted to the development of personalized training systems. A major problem in learning environments is applying the same approach to all students: i.e., teaching materials, time for their mastering, and a training program that is designed in the same way for everyone. Although, each student is individual, has his own skills, ability to assimilate the material, his preferences and other. Recently, recommendation systems, of which the system of personalized learning is a part, have become widespread in the learning environments. On the one hand, this shift is due to mathematical approaches, such as machine learning and data mining, that are used in such systems while, on the ot…
Oikeudenmukaisuus sisäsyntyisinä oikeuksina ja kasvatus oikeudenmukaisuuteen dialogisen pluralismin kontekstissa : näkökulmia ja tulkintoja Nicholas …
2017
The study offers a philosophical analysis of Nicholas Wolterstorff’s theory of justice and education for justice. Crucial aspects of Wolterstorff’s theory are his understanding of justice as inherent rights and justice as inherent worth. Interrelated to this are the concepts of life-goods, well-being and the good life. Within this framework of rights grounded in worth, the notions of natural human rights and human dignity occupy a special position. These notions in turn form the philosophical foundation and implications for education for justice. The study is divided into two parts. The first part delves into the notion of justice as inherent rights. The key aspects addressed in this sectio…
Time Unification on Local Binary Patterns Three Orthogonal Planes for Facial Expression Recognition
2019
International audience; Machine learning has known a tremendous growth within the last years, and lately, thanks to that, some computer vision algorithms started to access what is difficult or even impossible to perceive by the human eye. While deep learning based computer vision algorithms have made themselves more and more present in the recent years, more classical feature extraction methods, such as the ones based on Local Binary Patterns (LBP), still present a non negligible interest, especially when dealing with small datasets. Furthermore, this operator has proven to be quite useful for facial emotions and human gestures recognition in general. Micro-Expression (ME) classification is…
Multi-objective human resources allocation in R&D projects planning
2009
In a R&D department, several projects may have to be implemented simultaneously within a certain period of time by a limited number of human resources with diverse skills. This paper proposes an optimisation model for the allocation of multi-skilled human resources to R&D projects, considering individual workers as entities having different knowledge, experience and ability. The model focuses on three fundamental aspects of human resources: the different skill levels, the learning process and the social relationships existing in working teams. The resolution approach for the multi-objective problem consists of two steps: firstly, a set of non-dominated solutions is obtained by exploring the…
OPTIMAL OPERATION OF POWER-SPLIT HYBRID ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN: COMPARISON BETWEEN TWO PERFORMANCE INDICES
2022
Among all the current environmentally-friendly ground vehicles proposed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, power-split hybrid electric vehicles represent one of the most promising solutions. Their operation is based on the cooperation of the thermal engine and the electric unit enabled by mechanical transmissions consisting of planetary and ordinary gear sets. However, implementing proper energy management strategies to realise the best powertrain operations is crucial to maximise the environmental gain without compromising performance and drivability. For this purpose, an initial comprehensive analysis of the powertrain response is required. In this respect, this paper relies on a u…
A Matrix Model For An Energy Management System Based On Multi-Carrier Energy Hub Approach
2015
The INGRID FP7 European co-funded project studies several methodologies concerning hydrogen production and storage, aiming to provide services to electricity system operators for suitably balancing electrical supply and demand. In such a context, the problem of integrating different carriers into a single multi-hub optimiser represents a challenging topic for the research. This paper depicts the Energy Management System (EMS) of the plant which will be developed and built as a prototype of the INGRID system. The approach followed for the EMS design and development takes the cue from the matrix model presented in the rest of the paper, as well as the general optimisation problem formulation …
Resursseista toimintamahdollisuuksiin : tutkimus suomalaisen vanhustenhuollon oikeudenmukaisuudesta
2012
TIIVISTELMÄ RESURSSEISTA TOIMINTAMAHDOLLISUUKSIIN. Tutkimus suomalaisen vanhustenhuollon oikeudenmukaisuudesta. Jari Pirhonen Filosofia ja sosiologia Pro gradu- tutkielma Yhteiskuntatieteiden ja filosofian laitos Jyväskylän yliopisto Ohjaajat: Arto Laitinen (filosofia) ja Jyrki Jyrkämä (sosiologia) Syksy 2012 Sivumäärä: 132 sivua + kaksi liitettä Käsissäsi on filosofis-sosiologinen tutkimus suomalaisen vanhustenhuoltokentän toimintaa ohjaavasta arvopohjasta. Tutkimuksen keskiössä on voimakkaasti asiakasmääräänsä kasvattava palveluasuminen. Demografinen kehitys ja raskaammaksi muuttuva huoltosuhde yhteiskunnassamme on herättänyt vilkasta keskustelua vanhustenhuollon nykytilasta ja tulevaisuu…
Oikeudenmukaisuus sisäsyntyisinä oikeuksina ja kasvatus oikeudenmukaisuuteen : näkökulmia Nicholas Wolterstorffin teorian valossa
2012
