Inelastic neutron scattering study of proton dynamics in Ca(OH)2 at 20 K
1995
Abstract Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectra of Ca(OH) 2 at 20 K are presented from 30 to 4000 cm −1 for a powder sample, from 30 to 12000 cm −1 for an oriented single-crystal. INS band splitting due to the lattice density-of-states is observed. Polarization effects reveal the orientation of atomic displacements for each mode and a new band assignment scheme is proposed. For the single-crystal, the v OH mode and overtones are observed. This oscillator shows only moderate anharmonicity. Spectrum simulation reveals that INS spectral intensities are not consistent with simple normal coordinates and harmonic force-fields for Ca(OH) 2 entities. A new dynamical model is proposed, including…
Dynamics of the excited-state hydrogen transfer in a (dG)·(dC) homopolymer: intrinsic photostability of DNA
2018
Multiscale molecular dynamics simulations reveal out-of-plane distortions that favour DNA photostability. A novel photostability mechanism involving four proton transfers and triggered by a nearby Na+ ion is also unveiled.
APOGEE Data Releases 13 and 14: Data and Analysis
2018
Data and analysis methodology used for the SDSS/APOGEE Data Releases 13 and 14 are described, highlighting differences from the DR12 analysis presented in Holtzman (2015). Some improvement in the handling of telluric absorption and persistence is demonstrated. The derivation and calibration of stellar parameters, chemical abundances, and respective uncertainties are described, along with the ranges over which calibration was performed. Some known issues with the public data related to the calibration of the effective temperatures (DR13), surface gravity (DR13 and DR14), and C and N abundances for dwarfs (DR13 and DR14) are highlighted. We discuss how results from a data-driven technique, Th…
Supercontinuum generation in titanium dioxide waveguides
2019
International audience; Optical supercontinua are a fundamental topic that has stimulated a tremendous practical interest since the early works of Alfano et al. in the 70’s in bulk components. Photonic crystal fibers have then brought some remarkable potentialities in tailoring the dispersive properties of a waveguide while maintaining a high level of confinement over significant propagation distances. The next breakthrough is to further reduce the footprint of the nonlinear component and to achieve the generation of optical supercontinuum on a photonic chip. To reach this aim, several platforms have been successfully investigated such as silicon, silicon germanium, silicon nitride, chalcog…
The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations
2019
International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes. In addition, CH–π interactions were observed in seve…
First copper(I) ferrocenyltetraphosphine complexes: possible involvement in Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction ?
2008
Preparation and characterization of the first examples of copper(I) ferrocenylpolyphosphine complexes are reported. The molecular structure of complex {P,P′,P′′-[1,1′,2,2′-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)-4,4′-di-tert-butylferrocene]iodocopper(I)} (1) was solved by X-ray diffraction studies, and its fluxional behavior in solution was investigated by VT-31P NMR; both revealed a net triligated coordination preference of the ferrocenyl tetraphosphine Fc(P)4tBu with copper. The tetradentate ligand is an active auxiliary in Sonogashira alkynylation; therefore the general question of copper as a competitive coordination partner in the Pd/Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction was raised and discussed. Elec…
Tuning the Electronic Properties of Nonplanar exTTF-Based Push–Pull Chromophores by Aryl Substitution
2012
International audience; A new family ofπ-extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) donor−acceptorchromophores has been synthesized by [2 + 2] cycloaddition of TCNE with exTTF-substituted alkynes and subsequent cycloreversion. X-ray data and theoretical calculations, performed at the B3LYP/6-31G**level, show that the new chromophores exhibit highlydistorted nonplanar molecular structures with largely twisted 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) units. The electronic and optical properties, investigated by UV/visspectroscopy and electrochemical measurements, are significantly modified when theTCBD acceptor unit is substituted with a donor phenyl group, which increases the twistingof the TCBD unit…
A novel MALDI-MS approach for the analysis of neutral metallosupramolecular architectures
2011
Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) methods have been developed for the characterisation of neutral [2×2] metallogrids derived fromdiimine, dihydrazone and diacylhydrazone ligands. Such grids may be protonated in solution to give cationic species but in most cases these are labile, so that rather delicate conditions are required for observation of the intact metallogrids as monoprotonated derivatives in the gas phase. As a MALDI matrix, 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone (THAP) is sufficiently acidic to enable monoprotonation of the grids unaccompanied by dissociation, and if the grid sample is initially deposited by a layering technique to avoid any prelimina…
Palladium-catalyzed amination of aryl dibromides with secondary amines: synthetic and mechanistic aspects
1999
Abstract Diaminobenzenes are obtained starting from m- and p-dibromobenzenes and secondary amines in the presence of Pd(dba)2/P(o-tolyl)3and sodium tert-butoxide in moderate to good yields. Reductive dehalogenation of aryl dibromides is a major side reaction under these conditions. The study of this reaction has shown that the formation of reductive dehalogenation products occurs according to two independent ways. The first one proceeds via the well-known β-hydride elimination from amido-coordinated palladium complexes. The second one involves the formation of hydrido palladium complexes from amino-coordinated derivatives. Although our results do not allow us to propose a detailed mechanist…
Ethene/norbornene copolymerization with (isodicyclopentadienyl)titanium complex-MAO catalyst
2007
Norbornene (NB) homopolymerization and ethene/NB copolymerizations with a silylene-bridged (isodicyclopentadienyl)(tert-butylamido)titanium dichloride-methylalumoxane (MAO) catalyst system were investigated. This catalytic system shows no efficiency towards NB homopolymerization but produces poly(ethene-co-norbornene)s. An increase in the initial NB feed content leads to a loss of copolymerization activity as well as NB copolymer incorporation. The structure of the isodicyclopentadienyl fragment (IsodiCp) has a strong limiting effect on comonomer incorporation possibilities.
