Economical evaluation of ecological benefits of the demand side management
2014
Environmental pollution and over-exploitation of non-renewable sources to find energy are current topics for the modern world that is now at having to deal with several issues such as the greenhouse effect, acid rain and climate change. In this study, the economical estimate of the savings in carbon dioxide obtained with a careful management of electrical loads is presented. Four particular scenarios are designed as case studies: Italy, France, United Kingdom and Germany. A comparison is presented with a similar study, made in 2007, when green energies were not yet very developed.
Maratonjuoksun vaikutukset sydänlihaksen verenvirtaukseen, pumppaustehokkuuteen ja mahdolliseen sydänlihasvaurioon kestävyysurheilijoilla
2001
Marko Laaksonen. Maratonjuoksun vaikutukset sydänlihaksen verenvirtaukseen, pumppaustehokkuuteen ja mahdolliseen sydänlihasvaurioon kestävyysurheilijoilla. Liikuntafysiologian Pro Gradu -tutkielma. Liikuntabiologian laitos. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Fyysisellä aktiivisuudella on todettu olevan monia positiivisia vaikutuksia hengitys- ja verenkierto elimistön toimintaan sekä terveyteen yleensä. Kuitenkin pitkiin urheilusuorituksiin liittyy suurentunut riski sydämen toimintahäiriöön ja jopa yllättävään kuolemaan. Monissa ultraäänitutkimuksissa onkin todettu sydämen pumppaustoiminnan heikentyneen pitkäkestoisen intensiivisen suorituksen jälkeen. Lisäksi on olemassa monia tutkimuksia, joissa on esi…
Das ritual der unterwerfung Stefan Nemanjas unter Maunel I. Komnenos (1172)
2013
This article investigates the ceremonial of the subjection of the Serbian zupan Stefan Nemanja to the Byzantine emperor Manuel I Komnenos (1172) and compares it with similar events of the period in question. It argues for a strong influence of western forms of conflict resolution (?deditio?) in the ceremonial.

Synchrotron x-ray transmission measurements and modeling of filters investigated for Athena
2020
International audience; Advanced Telescope for High-Energy Astrophysics is a large-class astrophysics space mission selected by the European Space Agency to study the theme "Hot and Energetic Universe." The mission essentially consists of a large effective area x-ray telescope and two detectors: the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) and the Wide Field Imager (WFI). Both instruments require filters to shield from out-of-band radiation while providing high transparency to x-rays. The mission is presently in phase B; thus, to consolidate the preliminary design, investigated filter materials need to be properly characterized by experimental test campaigns. We report results from high-resolution…
Voice traffic bicasting enhancements in mobile HSPA network
2014
This paper discusses methods for improving the effectiveness of delivering voice traffic over High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network by employing transmission diversity with Single-Frequency Dual-Cell (SF-DC) Aggregation that is part of the Multiflow specification. SF-DC Aggregation allows the user to be served at the same time by two different cells. The enhancements discussed in the paper capitalize strongly on the availability of the composed Channel Quality Indication (CQI) feedback at both serving cells. According to the results obtained from the network simulations, the ability to select the better channel for each voice transmission significantly decreases the required tra…
Introduction of Multiflow for HSDPA
2012
This paper introduces a multi-cell transmission scheme for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks, called Multiflow. In this concept, downlink data is transmitted to a user terminal at the border of two cells from one or both of the cells. The cells may belong to same NodeB or to two different NodeBs. The data flows are separated by different scrambling codes used by each associated cell, thus the flows can be treated independently. This provides increased multi-user diversity by means of flexibility in downlink resource management, in addition to the spatial diversity of multiple transmission locations. Another important gain mechanism for this scheme is realized by short-term …
Volkswagen Emission Crisis : Managing Stakeholder Relations on the Web
2016
Organizations establish their own profiles at social media sites to publish pertinent information to customers and other stakeholders. During a long and severe crisis, multiple issues may emerge in media interaction. Positive responses and prompt interaction from the official account of e.g. a car manufacturer creates clarity and reduces anxiety among stakeholders. This research targets the Volkswagen 2015 emission scandal that became public on Sept. 18, 2015. We report its main phases over time based on public web information. To better understand the online interaction and reactions of the company, we scrutinized what information was published on VW’s official web sites, Facebook, and Twi…
On optimal relay placement for improved performance in non-coverage limited scenarios
2014
Low power nodes have been a hot topic in research, standardization, and industry communities, which is typically considered under an umbrella term called heterogeneous networking. In this paper we look at the problem of deploying optimally low power nodes in the context of relay networking, when an operator connects low power nodes (or small cells) via the wireless backhaul that uses the same spectrum and the same wireless access technology. We present an analytical model that can calculate optimal coordinates for low power nodes based on the input parameters, such as preferred number of nodes, their transmission power, parameters of the environment etc. The analytical calculations are comp…
