Impact of mobility restrictions on active aging; cross-sectional associations and longitudinal changes parallel to COVID-19 restrictions

Background: Meaningful activities can be done in or around home, but opportunities for participation and active aging decrease when moving in smaller areas. Active aging refers to having an active approach to life in line with one's goals, ability and opportunities. In adults over 75 years with different baseline neighborhood mobility levels, we studied active aging scores two years prior to and amid COVID-19, when governments restricted mobility of residents to slow the COVID-19 outbreak. Beliefs and Experiences of Individuals Following a Zero-Carb Diet

The adoption of carbohydrate-restrictive diets to improve health is increasing in popularity, but there is a dearth of research on individuals who choose to severely restrict or entirely exclude carbohydrates. The present study investigated the beliefs and experiences of individuals following a diet that severely limits, or entirely excludes, dietary carbohydrates, colloquially known as a ‘zero-carb’ diet, for at least 6 months. Abstract. Here, we present the first quantitative speleothem record of lignin oxidation products (LOPs), which has been determined in a Holocene stalagmite from the Herbstlabyrinth Cave in central Germany. In addition, we present LOP results from 16 months of drip water monitoring. Lignin is only produced by vascular plants and therefore has the potential to be an unambiguous vegetation proxy and to complement other vegetation and climate proxies in speleothems. Climate and structure of the 8.2 ka event reconstructed from three speleothems from Germany

Abstract The most pronounced climate anomaly of the Holocene was the 8.2 ka cooling event. We present new 230Th/U-ages as well as high-resolution stable isotope and trace element data from three stalagmites from two different cave systems in Germany, which provide important information about the structure and climate variability of the 8.2 ka event in central Europe. In all three speleothems, the 8.2 ka event is clearly recorded as a pronounced negative excursion of the δ18O values and can be divided into a ‘whole event’ and a ‘central event’. Mapping of corrosion products of highly altered archeological iron using voltammetry of microparticles

The application of the voltammetry of microparticles to identify corrosion products on different localizations of highly altered archeological iron pieces is described. The use of graphite pencil methodology permits to mapping different corrosion products, namely, akaganeite, goethite, hematite, jarosite, magnetite, maghemite and siderite, in iron artifacts. Identification protocols are based on square wave voltammetric measurements performed at sample-modified paraffin-impregnated graphite electrodes immersed into aqueous HCl. Atmospheric Corrosion Investigation in Industrial, Marine and Rural Environments in South-East Brazil

ASTM 283-C, AISI 304 and 316-L steel specimens (called coupons) were exposed in marine, industrial and rural area(s) for different periods ranging between 1–12 months, in four different season campaigns. The corrosion rate was determined by chemical loss measurements. Rust characterization was performed by XRD, SEM, optical, and Mossbauer spectroscopy (in transmission and backscattering geometry). Superparamagnetic maghemite and goethite were found as corrosion products. Magnetic goethite and feroxyhite decrease with time of exposure. Lepidochrosite is detected and its intensity increase with the atmospheric exposure time. The results obtained from XRD and Mossbauer are in good agreement.

L’obiettivo di questo studio è la ricostruzione e l’analisi di un progetto non realizzato: il Gran Cimitero di Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda (1834-1911), a partire dai suoi disegni originali, realizzati a matita, inchiostro e acquerello su cartoncino. Il progetto ha vinto la medaglia d’oro sia alla Prima Mostra Nazionale di Belle Arti di Firenze, nel 1861, sia alla Mostra di Sicilia di Belle Arti, nel 1863. La ricostruzione del modello tridimensionale è servita per dedurre elementi di interpretazione, quali l’impostazione modulare dell’intera composizione, e viste prospettiche, ombreggiate o renderizzate, elaborate cercando rendere visibili gli spazi immaginati nei disegni originali in proiezion…

Water mites of small boreal forest lakes (Central Finland)

The water mite fauna of 10 small forest lakes in close proximity to each other was studied in 1979–1985. In total approximately 62 species of water mites belonging to 22 genera were detected in the lakes. The most diverse genera were Piona (14 species), Arrenurus (11), Unionicola (4) and Limnesia (4). Widely spread and abundant species were Piona variabilis and Limnesia maculata. Locally abundant were Unionicola crassipes, U. minor, Piona carnea and P. paucipora. Zoogeographically interesting though accidental species were Arrenurus werestschagini, Limnesia polonica, Momonia karelica, Piona gyrophora and Unionicola parvipora. Épigraphie religieuse et communautés civiques au Haut-Empire : la délimitation du territoire de la ciuitas Aeduorum aux IIe et IIIe siècles

Since the 19th century, many proposals have been made regarding the boundaries of the territory of the civitas Aeduorum. Although there is general agreement on many geographic sectors, there are still major discrepancies of opinion, principally in the regions of Autissiodurum / Auxerre and Alesia. The religious epigraphy of the Early Empire, in particular the use of a specific formulary, seems to demonstrate a single religious (and political) community in these regions, which would thus have all belonged to the civitas Aeduorum in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
