Minimum volume design of structures with constraints on ductility and stability

2014

Abstract A minimum volume design problem of elastic perfectly plastic frame structures subjected to different combinations of fixed and seismic loads is presented, in which the design variables are considered as appertaining alternatively to a continuous assigned range as well as to appropriate discrete sets. The structure is designed so as to behave elastically for the applied fixed loads, to shakedown in presence of serviceability seismic conditions and to prevent the instantaneous collapse for suitably chosen combinations of fixed and high seismic loadings. In order to avoid further undesired collapse modes, the P-Delta effects are considered and the structure is also constrained to prev…

Nature and origin of natural Zn clay minerals from the Bou Arhous Zn ore deposit: Evidence from electron microscopy (SEM-TEM) and stable isotope comp…

2016

International audience; Zn-clay minerals have been found in the non-sulfide deposit of Bou Arhous (High Atlas, Morocco). They occur as white or ochre clays embedding willemite (Zn2SiO4) and are commonly associated to red detrital clays in karstic cavities. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyses were combined in order to characterize the clay minerals and to determine the mechanism of their formation. XRD patterns on oriented and powdered clays and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic analyses suggest that fraipontite is the major Zn clay phase (with some smectite interstrat…

Two new species of oribatid mites of Lasiobelba (Acari, Oribatida, Oppiidae) from Nepal, including a key to all species of the genus

2014

Two new species of oribatid mites of the genus Lasiobelba (Oribatida, Oppiidae), Lasiobelba (Lasiobelba) daamsae sp. n. and Lasiobelba (Antennoppia) nepalica sp. n., are described from eastern Nepal. Lasiobelba (L.) daamsae sp. n. is most similar to L. (L.) remota Aoki, 1959 and L. (L.) gibbosa (Mahunka, 1985), however, it differs from both by the anterior part of pedotecta I specifically curved, rostrum pointed and exobothridial setae not shorter than bothridial setae. Lasiobelba (Antennoppia) nepalica sp. n. is most similar to L. (A.) granulata (Mahunka, 1986), however, it differs from the latter by the larger body size, exobothridial setae longer than rostral setae and bothridial setae n…

The genus Galumna in Nepalese oribatid mite fauna, with notes on systematic placement of some species (Acari, Oribatida, Galumnidae)

2014

The oribatid mite genus Galumna (Oribatida, Galumnidae) is recorded for the first time in Nepal. A new species, Galumna tetraporosa sp. n., is described from soil of secondary mixed broadleaved forest. It is most similar morphologically to G. tokyoensis Aoki, 1966 and G. valida Aoki, 1994, however, it differs from both by the absence of interlamellar setae and the presence of two pairs of notogastral porose areas Aa. Galumna granalata Aoki, 1984 is redescribed on the basis of specimens from Nepal. Galumna floridae (Jacot, 1929) and G. hexagona Balogh, 1960 are transferred to the genus Notogalumna; G. mauritii Mahunka, 1978 is transferred to the genus Dimidiogalumna.

γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticle in NaY-zeolite matrix: Preparation, characterization, and heterogeneous catalytic epoxidation of olefins

2010

Abstract Nano-sized crystals of maghemite iron oxide (γ-Fe 2 O 3 ) were synthesized onto the surface of NaY-zeolite crystals by immobilizing a polynuclear iron complex [Fe 4 O 2 (O 2 CCH 3 ) 7 (bpy) 2 ](ClO 4 ) (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) and subsequent calcination of the material in oxygen. Superparamagnetic γ-Fe 2 O 3 particles with sizes ∼5 nm were formed on the surface of the zeolite matrix. The nano-composite, γ-Fe 2 O 3 @NaY has been subsequently subjected for thorough characterization with several spectroscopic techniques as well as magnetic and transmission electron microscopic measurements. This confirms the formation of maghemite nanoparticles on a NaY-zeolite surface. γ-Fe 2 O 3 @NaY…

Opposite Trends in Holocene Speleothem Proxy Records From Two Neighboring Caves in Germany: A Multi-Proxy Evaluation

2021

Holocene climate in Central Europe was characterized by variations on millennial to decadal time scales. Speleothems provide the opportunity to study such palaeoclimate variability using high temporal resolution proxy records, and offer precise age models by U-series dating. However, the significance of proxy records from an individual speleothem is still a matter of debate, and limited sample availability often hampers the possibility to reproduce proxy records or to resolve spatial climate patterns. Here we present a palaeoclimate record based on four stalagmites from the Hüttenbläserschachthöhle (HBSH), western Germany. Two specimens cover almost the entire Holocene, with a short hiatus …

Mediterranean diet and adiposity in children and adolescents: A systematic review

2021

Our aim was to summarize, through a systematic review, the current evidence from dietary intervention and observational studies on the impact of adherence to the Mediterranean diet on adiposity markers and obesity in children and adolescents. We searched Medline up to June 1, 2021 for the identification of intervention and observational studies meeting the inclusion criteria, following the PRISMA statement. We included 55 articles: 8 intervention studies and 47 observational studies. Three trials report a beneficial effect of the dietary intervention, whereas two did not, and three did not compare with a control. All observational studies were cross-sectional, and only five studies also inc…

Abstract The structural stability and physical properties of CrVO4 under compression were studied by x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, optical absorption, resistivity measurements, and ab initio calculations up to 10 GPa. High-pressure x-ray diffraction and Raman measurements show that CrVO4 undergoes a phase transition from the ambient pressure orthorhombic CrVO4-type structure (Cmcm space group, phase III) to the high-pressure monoclinic CrVO4-V phase, which is proposed to be isomorphic to the wolframite structure. Such a phase transition (CrVO4-type → wolframite), driven by pressure, also was previously observed in indium vanadate. The crystal structure of both phases and the pressu…
