Preparation of mixed oxides MNdO3, with M=Cr, Fe. Comparison of several methods

Abstract Different methods for the formation of NdCrO3 and NdFeO3, having the perovskite-like structure, were studied including the ceramic method, simultaneous precipitation of hydroxides and simultaneous crystallization from aqueous solutions of nitrates. Preparation of mixed oxides from hydroxides simultaneously precipitated lowered the temperature and time required for their formation. In the case of NdCrO3 the formation process from hydroxides and nitrates occurred through the chromate, NdCrO4, without intermediate decomposition of the precursor to metal oxides, which lead to the mixed oxide by 600°C.
Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane on Te-containing MoVNbO catalysts

Abstract Ethylene has selectively been obtained during the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane on a Mo–V–Te–Nb–O mixed oxide catalyst. The catalyst was prepared hydrothermally and heat-treated at 600 °C for 2 h in a N2-stream. For comparison, undoped and Te-doped Mo–V–Nb–O catalysts and Mo–V–Te–O and Mo–Te–Nb–O mixed oxides have also been prepared. The catalytic performance of the Mo–V–Nb–Te–O mixed oxide catalyst cannot be explained by the incorporation of Te on the surface of a Mo–V–Nb–O mixed oxide but by the presence of an orthorhombic Te2M20O57 (M=Mo, V, Nb) crystalline phase. The role of tellurium in these catalysts is also discussed.
The synthesis of a hybrid graphene–nickel/manganese mixed oxide and its performance in lithium-ion batteries

Abstract Mixing of aqueous suspensions of delaminated NiMn layered double hydroxide (LDH) and graphene oxide leads to the instantaneous precipitation of a hybrid material that after calcination under inert atmosphere at 450 °C leads to Ni6MnO8 nanoparticles deposited on larger reconstituted graphene sheets. This material exhibits electrical conductivity similar to graphite, superparamagnetism and can be used as an anode for Li-ion batteries. A maximum capacity value of 1030 mA h g−1 was found during the first discharge, and capacity values higher than 400 mA h g−1 were still achieved after 10 cycles. Abstract TiAlZr mixed oxides, synthesized using sol–gel method, were characterized and used as supports of hydrodesulfurization catalysts (12 wt% Mo) prepared by impregnation either with molybdenum heteropolyacid H3PMo12O40 or its cobalt salt Co1.5PMo12O40. Structure, morphology and textural properties of oxides and catalysts were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Nitrogen adsorption porosimetry, TEM-EDS, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) techniques. Mixed oxide Ti Si O prepared by non-hydrolytic Xerogel method as a diluter of nickel oxide for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane

Abstract Mixed Ti Si O materials prepared by non-hydrolytic xerogel method have been employed as diluters for nickel oxide and used in the catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. These catalysts have been characterized by several physicochemical techniques such as N2 adsorption, XRD, TPR, TEM, HR-TEM, and XPS. Supported nickel oxide catalysts have been reported to be efficient but only if the nature and the amount of support are controlled. Initial stages of TiO2 thin films MOCVD growth studied by in situ surface analyses

Abstract In situ chemical surface analyses using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were performed to understand the initial stages of TiO 2 thin-film MOCVD growth. Deposits on Si (1 0 0), a few nanometres thick, were obtained at a fixed temperature of 650 °C and for two different pressures, 2.9 and 0.05 mbar, using titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) as precursor. Pressure lowering led to a higher deposit growth rate. Reduction of titanium with respect to stoichiometric titanium dioxide and oxidation of the wet-cleaned silicon substrate are observed from decomposition of the Ti 2p and Si 2p peaks. Photo-electrochemical and impedance investigation of passive layers grown anodically on titanium alloys

Abstract The anodic behaviour of two titanium cast alloys, obtained by fusion in a voltaic arc under argon atmosphere, was analyzed in aerated aqueous solutions having different pH values. In all solutions the alloys, having nominal compositions Ti–50Zr at.% and Ti–13Zr–13Nb wt.%, displayed a valve-metal behaviour, owing to the formation of barrier-type oxide films. Passive films, grown potentiodynamically up to about 9 V, were investigated by photocurrent spectroscopy (PCS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Influences of Structure and Composition on the Photoelectrochemical Behaviour of Anodic Films on Zr and Zr-20at.%Ti

Abstract A photoelectrochemical investigation on anodic films of different thickness grown on sputter-deposited Zr and Zr–20 at.%Ti was carried out. The estimated optical band gap and flat band potential of thick ( U F ≥ 50 V) anodic films were related to their crystalline structure and compared with those obtained for thinner ( U F ≤ 8 V/SCE) anodic oxides having undetermined crystalline structure.
