In situ characterization of passive films on al-ti alloy by photocurrent and impedance spectroscopy
1998
Abstract The anodic behaviour of an Al-Ti alloy (Ti-48Al-1V, atomic %) was investigated in different aqueous electrolytes. In all cases the alloy was passive owing to the growth of a barrier-like oxide film according to the high field mechanism. The study of the growth curves suggests partial dissolution of the film during the formation process in acidic solution. The kinetic parameters for film formation have been estimated in neutral solutions and the dielectric constant of the passive layer was roughly estimated. The in-situ characterization of the passive film revealed a n-type behaviour only for very low thicknesses, whilst thicker films showed insulator-like characteristics. The analy…
Semiconductor mixed oxides as innovative materials for the photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants
2020
Abstract This work aims to provide a critical survey of the extensive literature concerning the potential applications of nanostructured mixed oxides for environmental remediation. In particular, our attention was focused on the feasibility to employ these materials as photocatalysts for the elimination of toxic organic pollutants contained in water and wastewater. The advantages and perspectives of the various nanocomposites are briefly discussed.
Selective propane oxidation over MoVSbO catalysts. On the preparation, characterization and catalytic behavior of M1 phase
2009
Nb-free (SbO)(2)M(20)O(56) catalysts (M = Mo, V) presenting pure M1 phase have been prepared by a post-synthesis treatment with hydrogen peroxide of a heat-treated MoVSbO mixed metal oxide catalyst previously prepared by hydrothermal method. The characterization of catalysts and their results for propane oxidation suggest that the optimization in the preparation of the M1 phase depends strongly on the washing procedure. The optimal removing of Sb species formed during post-synthesis treatment can explain the improvement in the catalytic activity; while the better selectivity to acrylic acid of the catalysts obtained by post-synthesis treatment can be explained by the elimination of M2 phase…
Kinetic Study of the Oxidation of n-Butane on Vanadium Oxide Supported on Al/Mg Mixed Oxide
1997
The reaction kinetics of the oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of n-butane over vanadia supported on a heat-treated Mg/Al hydrotalcite (37.3 wt % of V2O5) was investigated by both linear and nonlinear regression techniques. A reaction network including the formation of butenes (1-, 2-cis-, and 2-trans-butene), butadiene, and carbon oxides by parallel and consecutive reactions, at low and high n-butane conversions, has been proposed. Langmuir−Hinshelwood (LH) models can be used as suitable models which allows reproduction of the global kinetic behavior, although differences between oxydehydrogenation and deep oxidation reactions have been observed. Thus, the formation of oxydehydrogenation pro…
Catalytic performance of CoAlZn and NiAlZn mixed oxides in hydrogen production by bio-ethanol partial oxidation
2013
CoAlZn and NiAlZn mixed oxides were prepared by sol-gel method and tested in partial oxidation of bio-ethanol (POE). At lower temperatures, CoAlZn showed higher ethanol conversion and higher selectivity to H2 and CO than NiAlZn. At higher temperatures, ethanol conversion on both catalysts reached 100%, while selectivity (S) to H2 and CO became higher on NiAlZn. At 750 C, NiAlZn showed S(H2) of 95%, S(CO) of 90%, while for CoAlZn these values were 90% and 83% respectively. Both catalysts were resistant to coking, but the amount of carbon deposits was still lower on NiAlZn. During 50 h on-stream, ethanol conversion and selectivity to H2 and CO on NiAlZn remained unchanged demonstrating stable…
The Effect of Anodizing Bath Composition on the Electronic Properties of Anodic Ta-Nb Mixed Oxides
2022
Anodic oxides were grown to 50 V on Ta-Nb sputtering deposited alloys, with high Nb content, in acetate ions containing an aqueous solution to study the effect of the anodizing bath composition on anodic layers’ dielectric properties. Photoelectrochemical measurements proved the presence of a photocurrent in the band gap of photon energy lower than oxides, due to optical transitions involving localized electronic states as a consequence of acetate ions incorporation. Flat band potential value estimates assessed the insulating nature of the anodic oxides grown in the acetate buffer solution. Differential capacitance measurements showed that the highest capacitance value was measured for the …

Solid State Properties of Anodic Hf-Nb Mixed Oxides
2016
In last decades, HfO2 and Nb2O5 have been extensively studied due to their many potential applications, from corrosion protection to CMOS (as high-k gate dielectrics) [1-2] and ReRAM technologies [3-4]. For these technological applications compact, uniform and flat oxides are necessary, and a detailed understanding of their physical properties as a function of the fabrication conditions is needful. Scientific community gradually shifted its interest from pure metal oxides to mixed metal oxides trying to exploit the advantages of pure oxides and to suppress their disadvantages. Mixed oxides can be grown on valve metals alloys by anodizing, a simple and low cost electrochemical process for pr…
