Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured Cobalt Hexacyanoferrate

Cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) nanoparticles have been synthesized by mixing aqueous solutions of K3Fe(CN)6 and CoCl2 under vigorous stirring at different temperatures and following two different procedures, drop-by-drop or immediate mixing. The resulting CoHCF nanoparticles, with dimensions of several tens of nanometers, were characterized using TEM, SEM-EDX, IR, and XRD. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated in comparison with the CoHCF powder bulk compound. Comparative study of the lubricant performance of Compritol 888 ATO either used by blending or by hot melt coating.

Compritol 888 ATO is used as a lubricant in oral solid dosage formulations. It can also be used as a hot melt coating agent sprayed onto a powder. In this study, we compare the lubricant performance of Compritol 888 ATO either used by classical blending or by hot melt coating onto Lactopress by compression tests. In physical mix, the Compritol concentration does not affect the compressibility. The same compressibility is obtained with lactose coated by 0.5 or 1% of Compritol, but a higher compressibility can be observed with 2 and 3%. Glass transition of binary mixtures of dipolar particles in two dimensions

We study the glass transition of binary mixtures of dipolar particles in two dimensions within the framework of mode-coupling theory, focusing in particular on the influence of composition changes. In a first step, we demonstrate that the experimental system of K\"onig et al. [Eur. Phys. J. E 18, 287 (2005)] is well described by point dipoles through a comparison between the experimental partial structure factors and those from our Monte Carlo simulation. For such a mixture of point particles we show that there is always a plasticization effect, i.e. a stabilization of the liquid state due to mixing, in contrast to binary hard disks. Photorefractive detection of antiparallel ferroelectric domains in BaTiO 3 and BaTiO 3 :Co crystals

An all-optical method involving one coherent beam of light and based on photorefractive wave mixing is used to reveal antiparallel ferroelectric domains in one pure, and two cobalt-doped, barium titanate crystals (BaTiO 3 ). Rod-shaped domains with square cross sections are revealed.

The techniques commonly used to study the visible spectra of transition metal complexes in the solid state involve diffuse reflectance from the powdered sample or transmission through a mull of the compound in mineral oil on filter paper. Pressed KBr (for anhydrous compounds) and AgCl (for compounds containing water or other highly polar ligands) disk techniques have been used even for low temperature spectra. All of the transmission techniques mentioned are based on mixing the sample with another compound which may induce changes in the compound under study via chemical reactions.
