A path analysis model: how liking for vegetables emerges in children

2014

A path analysis model is used to explain how preference for vegetables emerges before 2 years. It takes into account several determinants such as the child exposition, the child preferences for odors and flavors, as well as the parental behavior.

2010

Authorities have called for salt content to be reduced in various food products. Cheese appears to be one of the most targeted products. In order to understand how to reduce salt content in model cheeses without modifying salty perception, the interactions between in-mouth sodium release and cheese composition and structure have to be studied. . The current study was conducted to determine how the release of aroma compounds and sodium ions could be modified by the structure and the composition of model cheese (lipid/protein ratio, sodium content ...). This will be done by in vivo and in vitro approaches. 23Na Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to study the mobility and t…

2022

The priming effect (PE) is a key mechanism contributing to the carbon balance of the soil ecosystem. Almost 100 years of research since its discovery in 1926 have led to a rich body of scientific publications to identify the drivers and mechanisms involved. A few review articles have summarised the acquired knowledge; the last major one was published in 2010. Since then, knowledge on the soil microbial communities involved in PE and in PE + C sequestration mechanisms has been considerably renewed. This article reviews current knowledge on soil PE to state to what extent new insights may improve our ability to understand and predict the evolution of soil C stocks. We propose a framework to un…

2021

Among tools that are used to fill knowledge gaps on natural systems, ecological modelling has been widely applied during the last two decades. Ecological models are simple representations of a complex reality. They allow to highlight environmental drivers of species ecological niche and better understand species responses to environmental changes. However, applying models to Southern Ocean benthic organisms raises several methodological challenges. Species presence datasets are often aggregated in time and space nearby research stations or along main sailing routes. Data are often limited in number to correctly describe species occupied space and physiology. Finally, environmental datasets …

Electronic implementation of a non-linear oscillator subjected to noise : application to the modeling of neuronal information coding

2011

We study the nonlinear FitzHugh-Nagumo model witch describes the dynamics of excitable neural element. It is well known that this system exhibits three different possible responses. Indeed, the system can be mono-stable, oscillatory or bistable. In the oscillatory regime, the system periodically responds by generating action potential. By contrast, in the mono-stable state the system response remains constant after a transient. Under certain conditions, the system can undergo a bifurcation between the stable and the oscillatory regime via the so called Andronov-Hopf bifurcation. In this Phd thesis, we consider the FitzHugh-Nagumo model in the stable state, that is set near the Andronov-Hopf…

2012

The effectiveness of the visual system is permitted by a complex processing network, which relies on cortical, sub-cortical and peripheral structures. The purpose of this research is to improve the knowledge of the process sustaining the visual perception of motion, and to produce a computational model able to reproduce the features of human visual tracking of a moving object. This work includes an extensive bibliographic research, and a series of experiments. The thesis consists of two parts:The first part pertains to the determination of performance in the "backward" inference of a partially visible movement. It consist of defining the involvement of exogenous information (retinal signals)…

Prognosis of resected intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

2017

Introduction. Complete resection stands as the only curative option for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCC). Still, prognosis remains poor after resection due to a recurrence rate over 60% leading to actual 5-year survival rates below 20%. Reliable prognostic estimation and better understanding of tumor biology would be of interest for improving IHCC prognosis.Methods. Using clinical and biological data from two large cohort of resected IHCC (MSKCC, n=189 and AFC, n=522), three objectives have been explored. First, assessing the performances of different published prognostic models. Second, defining the reliability of preoperative prognostic estimation using imaging, tumoral genomic prof…
