“Nice to get to know you” : Social presence in virtual exchange discourse

Virtual exchange comprises online collaborative activities in facilitated, educational contexts across borders. This paper offers a multimodal approach to the study of social presence in students’ asynchronous online discourse in the context of virtual exchange. It draws on the Community of Inquiry model of online learning (Garrison 2017) and interprets social presence as the dynamic discursive process of social interaction and self-presentation. Societal discussions flow on social media platforms that are studied by researchers in multiple ways and through various kinds of data sets that are extracted from them. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä on selvittää, mikä on ympäristökasvatuksen merkitys yhteiskunnan muutoksessa ympäristöystävällisempään suuntaan. Tutkimuksen näkökulma yhdistää ympäristökasvatukseen ympäristösosiologian ja kasvatussosiologian näkökulmia. Arvokasvatus nousee yhdeksi tärkeäksi aihealueeksi samoin kuin yhteiskunnan muutokseen keskittyvä kriittinen pedagogiikka. Etude numérique et expérimentale de l'assemblage acier aluminium par soudo-brasage

Dans cet article nous étudions le soudo-brasage de tôles d'acier et d'aluminium (par la technique CMT, assemblage à clin). Ces métaux ont des coefficients de dilatation thermique différents, ce qui provoque des déformations, d'où des contraintes mécaniques élevées. Des expériences sur des éprouvettes, une simulation numérique thermomécanique sont menées en parallèle afin de mieux comprendre ces aspects thermiques et mécaniques dans le but de minimiser la déformation de l'assemblage.

Numerical methods for a nonlinear impact model: A comparative study with closed-form corrections

A physically based impact model-already known and exploited in the field of sound synthesis-is studied using both analytical tools and numerical simulations. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of a physical system composed of a mass impacting on a wall can be expressed analytically as a function of the mass velocity during contact. Moreover, an efficient and accurate approximation for the mass outbound velocity is presented, which allows to estimate the Hamiltonian at the end of the contact. Analytical results are then compared to numerical simulations obtained by discretizing the system with several numerical methods. Reverberation still in business: Thickening and propagating micro-textures in physics-based sound modeling

Artificial reverberation is usually introduced, as a digital audio effect, to give a sense of enclosing architectural space. In this paper we argue about the effectiveness and usefulness of diffusive reverberators in physically-inspired sound synthesis. Examples are given for the synthesis of textural sounds, as they emerge from solid mechanical interactions, as well as from aerodynamic and liquid phenomena.
