Studying the Cognitive Map of the US States: Ideology and Prosperity Stereotypes Predict Interstate Prejudice

What are the spontaneous stereotypes that U.S. citizens hold about the U.S. states? We complemented insights from theory-driven approaches to this question with insights from a novel data-driven approach. Based on pile sorting and spatial arrangement similarity ratings for the states, we computed two cognitive maps of the states. Based on ratings for the states on ∼20 candidate dimensions, we interpreted the dimensions that spanned the two maps (Studies 1 and 2). Resting electrocardiogram and blood pressure in young athletes and nonathletes : A 4-year follow-up

A follow-up data on electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) changes in adolescent athletes are scarce. We compared ECG and BP between adolescent athletes and non-athletes in a 4-year follow-up. A total of 154 youth sports clubs (SC) in Finland and 100 secondary schools for comparison data participated in this observational follow-up study. Those who maintained or adopted SC participation are referred to as “Always athletes” (n=137), those who never participated in SC as “Never athletes” (n=108) and those who dropped out of SC during the follow-up as “Changers” (n=116). Informācijas tehnoloģiju lietojumi interešu nometnēs

Daudzu gadu garumā bērnu nometnes atradās stagnācijā. Bez līdzīgu viena otrai nodarbību veikšanas nav arī mainījusies attieksme pret informācijas tehnoloģiju izmantošanu nometnēs. Informācijas tehnoloģiju izmantošana vienmēr tika novesta līdz datoru izmantošanai drukāšanas mašīnu vietā. Darba mērķis ir nometņu modernizācija. Divu individuālu gadījumu piemērā: nometņu grafiki un intelektuālās spēles. Kaut arī nometņu grafiks tiek sastādīts elektroniskajā formātā, tas joprojām tiek lietots drukātā veidā; to ir paredzēts novērst. Modernizētajai intelektuālajai spēlei ir jāļauj gūt rezultātus un statistiku automātiski, nevis veicot manuālu skaitīšanu.

Modalitāte ir gramatiskās kategorija, kas atspoguļo izteikuma nozīmību, mērķi un attieksmi pret īstenību. Ar modalitās palīdzību tiek izpaustas tādas funkcijas kā spējas, iespējas, nepieciešamība un pienākums. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot modalitātes veidus un to funkcionalitāti kas izmantota spēļu instrukcijās. Lai sasniegtu šo mērķi, tika aplūkota teorētiskā literatūra par modalitāti, veikta korpusa analīze un diskursa analīzi. Pētījuma rezultātā tika noskaidrots, ka spēļu instrukciju tekstos tiek izmantota gan deontiskā, gan epistēmiskā modalitāte, kā arī imperatīvā un indikatīvā izteiksme. Prognostic value of HSP27 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a retrospective analysis of 57 tumours.

Background: The aims of the present study were to assess the prevalence of HSP27 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to verify whether HSP27 can be considered to be a marker of prognosis in patients with OSCC. Materials and Methods: The immunohistochemical expression of HSP27 was evaluated in 57 OSCC, who received standard treatment and monitoring. After grouping for HSP27 expression, OSCCs were statistically analysed for the variables age, gender, histological grading, TNM, staging and survival rate. Āfrikas cūku mēra vīrusa vakcīnas kandidātu izstrāde, izmantojot ssRNS bakteriofāgu vīrusveidīgo daļiņu platformu

Āfrikas cūku mēris ir globālā mēroga dzīvnieku industrijas problēma, pret kuru nav izstrādāta efektīva vakcīna. Maģistra darbs ir veltīts Āfrikas cūku mēra vīrusa (ĀCMV) vakcīnas kandidātu izstrādei, izmantojot drošu un efektīvu vīrusveidīgo daļiņu (VLP) platformu. Darba ietvaros ssRNS bakteriofāga AP205 apvalka proteīna monomērs un dimērs tika ģenētiski modificēts, ieviešot to N- un/vai C- galā izvēlēto ĀCMV antigēnu sekvences. Konstruktu ekspresijas rezultātā iegūtie proteīni tika attīrīti un raksturoti, pārbaudot VLP izveidošanos elektronu mikroskopā. SNP and SML estimation of univariate and bivariate binary–choice models

We discuss the semi-nonparametric approach of Gallant and Nychka (1987, Econometrica 55: 363–390), the semiparametric maximum likelihood approach of Klein and Spady (1993, Econometrica 61: 387–421), and a set of new Stata commands for semiparametric estimation of three binary-choice models. The first is a univariate model, while the second and the third are bivariate models without and with sample selection, respectively. The proposed estimators are root-n consistent and asymptotically normal for the model parameters of interest under weak assumptions on the distribution of the underlying error terms.
