Highly siderophile elements (PGE, Re and Au) in mantle xenoliths from the West Eifel volcanic field (Germany)
2003
Abstract Mantle peridotite xenoliths ranging in modal composition between fertile lherzolites and modally metasomatized harzburgites, and magmatic pyroxenite xenoliths from the West Eifel and Vogelsberg volcanic fields (Germany) have been analyzed for their whole rock major and minor elements, six platinum-group elements PGE (PGE: Os, Ir, Pt, Ru, Rh, Pd), Re and Au, rare earth elements (REE), and several other trace elements (e.g., As, Ta). The bulk rock Ir concentrations range from 0.23 to 9.07 ng/g (total PGE contents range between 43.2 ng/g), exceeding the range previously found in mantle rocks. Two pyroxenite samples show large variabilities in their PGE concentrations, with Ir contents…

Synergistic Effect of Physical Therapy Plus Pharmacological Therapy with Eperisone in Tension-Type Cervicalgia
2019
Background. This study assessed the effect of eperisone + physical therapy compared with physical therapy alone on the alleviation of pain and disability experienced by patients with tension-type cervicalgia. Methods. Patients with tension-type cervicalgia were randomized to eperisone + physical therapy (Group A) or physical therapy alone (Group B). Patients were assessed at baseline (T0), after 4-weeks’ treatment (T1), and at 2 months’ follow-up (T2). Outcome measures included the Numerical Rating Scale, the Italian version of the Neck Pain and Disability Scale, the Short Form-McGill Pain Questionnaire, and the Italian version of the Neck Disability Index. Results. Ninety-eight patients (5…
Copper radiopharmaceuticals for theranostic applications
2018
The growing advancement in nuclear medicine challenges researchers from several different fields to integrate imaging and therapeutic modalities in a theranostic radiopharmaceutical, which can be defined as a molecular entity with readily replaceable radioisotope to provide easy switch between diagnostic and therapeutic applications for efficient and patient-friendly treatment of diseases. For such a reason, the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of all five medical radionuclides of copper have thoroughly been investigated as they boost the hope for development of successful radiotheranostics. To facilitate the mutual understanding between all different specialists working on this multidi…
CIMT 2013
2013
The 11th Annual Meeting of Association for Cancer Immunotherapy (CIMT) welcomed more than 700 scientists around the world to Mainz, Germany and continued to be the largest immunotherapy meeting in Europe. Renowned speakers from various fields of cancer immunotherapy gave lectures under CIMT2013’s tag: “Advancing targeted therapies” the highlights of which are summarized in this meeting report.
Talking about something real: the concept of truth in multimodal non-fiction books for young people
2016
AbstractWithin social semiotics we discuss how different semiotic resources alone or in multimodal texts are used to communicate truth. This is one of the parts of the multimodal theory that are least developed and discussed. The discussion on truth within social semiotics is mainly focused on the relationship between a corresponding type of truth that is common in natural science and a more everyday perception of truth. This can give an incomplete and stereotypical image of how truth is portrayed. This essay attempts to nuance the picture by suggesting that our theoretical conceptions of how we portray truth visually can be nuanced and developed by combining the theory of multimodality wit…
Crossmodal Aesthetics: How Music and Dance Can Match
2020
Abstract The relationship between music and dance can sometimes be a ‘match’, a remarkable fit between the audible manifestation that music is and the visual or kinaesthetic manifestation that dance is. A match between two things seems to require a common measure with respect to which the match obtains. What can this be for two so different phenomena as music and dance? I argue that the most promising answer is: movement. This answer will not be satisfactory unless the movement of music and the movement of dance are the same on some level. I suggest that they are: there are qualities of movement that guide both dancers and musicians when producing dance and music as perceptible phenomena. B…
Growing in Mafia Territories
2015
As a theoretical extension of other previous studies, this work represents an improvement of the notions about the relationship between adolescence and Mafia. The research has been aiming at exploring teenagers’ universe within specific social contexts where the presence of criminal organizations is significant, focusing the attention on the modalities through which evolutionary tasks are coped with in contexts with high Mafia density and often characterized by a perception of social space that makes personal, financial, and political development problematic. The research has involved 93 teenagers who live in southern regions where the presence of Mafia organizations (Camorra, ‘Ndrangheta, …
Polarization and modal attractors in conservative counterpropagating four-wave interaction
2005
An experimental and theoretical study of the resonant four-wave interaction scheme in the counterpropagating configuration reveals the existence of a novel attraction process in Hamiltonian systems. We show analytically that it is the specificity of the boundary conditions inherent in the counterpropagating configuration that makes attraction dynamics possible in spite of the reversible nature of the four-wave interaction. In the context of optics, this novel dynamical feature could be the basic mechanism of a universal polarizer performing total polarization conversion of unpolarized light with, in principle, 100% efficiency.
Exact analytic expressions for electromagnetic propagation in a finite one-dimensional periodic multilayer
2004
Translation Matrix Formalism has been used to find an exact analytic solution for light propagation in a finite one-dimensional (1-D) periodic stratified structure. This modal approach allows to derive a closed formula for the electric field in every point of the structure, by simply imposing a convenient form for the boundary conditions. As an example it is also shown how to extend this result to gratings featuring defects.
