A Design-Oriented Analysis of Multimodality in English as a Foreign Language

This empirical article investigates multimodality in English as a foreign language, both as seen in the use of multimodal texts as artefacts and pedagogical texts for learning, and through an analysis of the multimodal learning designs. We present observations from a year 10 classroom in Norway that worked with the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie, 2007). PMMA Čukstošo galeriju modu mikro rezonatoru modu sadalījuma analīze

Polimetilmetakrilāta (PMMA) čukstošo galeriju modu (ČGM) mikro sfēru rezonatori ir komerciāli pieejami ar tipiskajiem labuma (Q) faktoriem 10^3-10^4. Izmantojot attēlu apstrādes tehniku ar augstu izšķirtspēju (1.9µm/px), ir iespējams monitorēt absorbcijas spektru. Šajā darbā tika izstrādāta jauna veida attēlu apstrādes metode priekš ČGM mikro rezonatoriem, lai analizētu intensitātes sadalījumu atsevišķos (40-70µm) PMMA ČGM mikro rezonatoru reģionos mainot ārējos fizikālos apstākļus. Intensitātes izmaiņas var tikt izmantotas lai raksturotu augstāku kārtu modu mijiedarbību un integrētu sensoru sistēmā.

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää ♭VII asteen soinnun funktioita modaalisessa populaarimusiikin harmoniassa. Yhtenäistä ja yksimielistä tapaa tulkita duurin ♭VII asteen sointua tai koko populaarimusiikin harmoniaa ei näytä olevan, vaan sen sijaan erilaisia modaalisen harmonian ja funktioiden tulkintapoja on monenlaisia, joita hyödynnän tässä tutkimuksessa. Keskeistä näissä tulkintatavoissa näyttää olevan konteksti eli ♭VII asteen sointua edeltävät ja seuraavat soinnut. Possession and volition in the development of modal meanings: a case-study from Sicilian

This article analyses two Sicilian modal constructions involving vuliri 'want' + infinitive and aviri a ‘have to’ + infinitive. They are used to express modal values, both non-epistemic and epistemic, and futurity. Based on Langacker's Cognitive Grammar assumptions, we describe the semantic network associated with each modal, as well as their semantic overlap. In addition, we describe how modal values interact with temporal-aspectual inflection. Our analysis shows that the epistemic values of vuliri are quite peripheral, while aviri a shows a high degree of polysemy, both in the non-epistemic and in the more abstract epistemic domain. The process of grammaticalization of Catalan modal verbs deure, haver and tenir involves a semantic change, a rise of new meanings and an increase in their semantic network. On the one hand, deontic modal verbs develop inferential evidential meanings, and, on the other, future meanings (posteriority).This corpus-based study focuses on the rise of future meanings of modal verb deure ('must') (between the 12th and the 16th centuries). Maģistra darba „Modālu un fāzes verbu kombinācijas konstrukcijās ar nenoteiksmi” mērķis ir apskatīt iespējamās kombinācijas, kas sastata izteicējā veidojas, modālajiem verbiem vajadzēt, gribēt un varēt kombinējoties ar citiem modālajiem verbiem un fāzes verbiem konstrukcijās ar nenoteiksmi. Līdz šim latviešu valodniecībā skatīta atsevišķu modālo verbu semantika, bet nav pētītas modālo verbu kombinācijas. Maģistra darbu veido 4 nodaļas, kurās apskatīta modalitātes teorija, verbu, t. sk. modālo un fāzes verbu, lietojums palīgnozīmē.
