Comparison of conventional and dense dispersion managed systems for 160 Gb/s transmissions

Elucidating the Effect of Bimodal Grain Size Distribution on Plasticity and Fracture Behavior of Polycrystalline Materials

The refinement of grains in a polycrystalline material leads to an increase in strength but as a counterpart to a decrease in elongation to fracture. Different routes are proposed in the literature to try to overpass this strength-ductility dilemma, based on the combination of grains with highly contrasted sizes. In the simplest concept, coarse grains are used to provide relaxation locations for the highly stressed fine grains. Nanomaterials are proving useful for regenerative medicine in combination with stem cell therapy. Nanoparticles can be administrated and targeted to desired tissues or organs and subsequently, be used in non-invasive real-time visualization and tracking of cells by means of different imaging techniques, they can act as therapeutic agent nanocarriers, and can also serve as scaffolds to guide the growth of new tissue. Lithium niobate step-index waveguides for broadband second harmonic generation

We investigate modal phase matching in lithium niobate step-index waveguides for second harmonic generation. We predict doubling bandwidths as large as 110 nm and show that temperature tuning can compensate for any deviation from the designed film thickness. © World Scientific Publishing Company.

Large monolithic silica-based macrocellular foams with trimodal pore system.

Group birefringence cancellation in highly birefringent photonic crystal fibre at telecommunication wavelengths

International audience; The spectral dependence of the group modal birefringence in a highly birefringent nonlinear photonic crystal fibre is studied both numerically and experimentally. The sign inversion and the cancellation of the group modal birefringence in the telecommunication window is demonstrated. Two simple experimental techniques are used to evaluate the wavelength of zero polarisation mode dispersion. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with numerical calculations based on vectorial beam propagation method simulations.
