International audience; In this paper, we carry out, by numerical simulations and experiments on recirculating loop.. a comparative analysis of the performances of two types of dispersion management techniques for 160 Gb/s transmission systems, which correspond to short-period dispersion maps (dense dispersion management) and long-period dispersion maps (conventional dispersion management), respectively. The refinement of grains in a polycrystalline material leads to an increase in strength but as a counterpart to a decrease in elongation to fracture. Different routes are proposed in the literature to try to overpass this strength-ductility dilemma, based on the combination of grains with highly contrasted sizes. Lithium niobate step-index waveguides for broadband second harmonic generation

We investigate modal phase matching in lithium niobate step-index waveguides for second harmonic generation. We predict doubling bandwidths as large as 110 nm and show that temperature tuning can compensate for any deviation from the designed film thickness. © World Scientific Publishing Company.

Time-resolved in-fiber acousto-optics permit the measurement of sub-ppm perturbations of the modal dispersion curves along sections of fiber exceeding 1 m long, with a spatial resolution in the order of few cm.
Group birefringence cancellation in highly birefringent photonic crystal fibre at telecommunication wavelengths

International audience; The spectral dependence of the group modal birefringence in a highly birefringent nonlinear photonic crystal fibre is studied both numerically and experimentally. The sign inversion and the cancellation of the group modal birefringence in the telecommunication window is demonstrated. Two simple experimental techniques are used to evaluate the wavelength of zero polarisation mode dispersion. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with numerical calculations based on vectorial beam propagation method simulations.
