Modal analysis for random response of MDOF systems

The usefulness of the mode-superposition method of multidegrees of freedom systems excited by stochastic vector processes is here presented. The differential equations of moments of every order are written in compact form by means of the Kronecker algebra; then the method for integration of these equations is presented for both classically and non-classically damped systems, showing that the fundamental operator available for evaluating the response in the deterministic analysis is also useful for evaluating the response in the stochastic analysis.
Translation as a Multimodal Negotiation Process

The research presented in this paper aims to render more visible the negotiation process of beginners in German as a foreign language (level A1 and A2) at university, while they translate previously simplified texts from Italian into German using Google Translator. The study belongs in the field of classroom research focusing on the learner´s use of online resources during translating activities. The approach used for the empirical analysis is a multimodal method which is exemplified by analysis of a video sequence. The paper then discusses and evaluates the value of Google Translator as a teaching aid in foreign language classes.

Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, minkälaisia representaatioita saamelaisista rakennetaan norjalaisessa sekä suomalaisessa matkailumarkkinoinnissa englanniksi. Aineistona oli yksi kunkin maan virallisen matkailumarkkinointiportaalin (VisitFinland ja VisitNorway)saamelaisaiheinen alasivu. Tutkielman teoriapohjana käytettiin kriittistä diskurssianalyysia(esim. Fairclough 1992, Pietikäinen & Mäntynen 2009, Blommaert 2005). Taustatietona käytiin läpi aiempia tutkimuksia saamelaisrepresentaatioista.
