The Aqua-Planet Experiment (APE): CONTROL SST Simulation

Climate simulations by 16 atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs) are compared on an aqua-planet, a water-covered Earth with prescribed sea surface temperature varying only in latitude. The idealised configuration is designed to expose differences in the circulation simulated by different models. Basic features of the aqua-planet climate are characterised by comparison with Earth. The models display a wide range of behaviour. The balanced component of the tropospheric mean flow, and mid-latitude eddy covariances subject to budget constraints, vary relatively little among the models. Depresijas un trauksmes simptomu saistība pieaugušo populācijā

Darba mērķis ir noteikt depresijas un trauksmes simptomu komorbiditāti pieaugušo populācijā Latvijā, un noskaidrot, kuri no depresijas un trauksmes simptomiem šo komorbiditāti veido visvairāk. Pētījuma jautājumi: 1.Kāda ir depresijas un trauksmes simptomu komorbiditātes sastopamība? 2.Kuri no depresijas simptomiem veido saistības ar kuriem no trauksmes simptomiem? Pētījumā piedalījās 1881 respondents (642 vīrieši un 1239 sievietes), kuru vidējais vecums ir 34 gadi. Datu iegūšanai izmantota Depresijas, trauksmes un stresa skala jeb DASS-42 latviešu valodas versija. The Effects of the Value-Added Tax on Revenue and Inequality

This paper examines the impact of the introduction of the value-added tax on inequality and government revenues using newly released macro data. We present both conventional country fixed effect regressions and instrumental variable analyses, where VAT adoption is instrumented using the previous values of neighbouring countries’ VAT systems as an instrument. The results reveal – in contrast to earlier work – that the revenue consequences of the VAT have not been positive. The results indicate that income-based inequality has increased due to the VAT adoption, whereas consumption inequality has remained unaffected. Peer reviewed
Erosion, screening, and migration of tungsten in the JET divertor

The erosion of tungsten (W), induced by the bombardment of plasma and impurity particles, determines the lifetime of plasma-facing components as well as impacting on plasma performance by the influx of W into the confined region. The screening of W by the divertor and the transport of W in the plasma determines largely the W content in the plasma core, but the W source strength itself has a vital impact on this process. Teacher emotional support in relation to social competence in preschool classrooms

The present study aimed to investigate the associations between teachers’ observed emotional support and social competence among Finnish pre-schoolers (6-year-olds). The quality of emotional support was observed using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System Pre-K in 47 preschool classrooms twice across the preschool year. Teachers rated children’s social competence in autumn and again in spring, using the Multisource Assessment of Social Competence Scale (MASCS), which produced sum scores for cooperating skills, empathy, impulsivity, and disruptiveness. Työn vaatimusten ja voimavarojen mallia (JD-R) hyödyntäen tutkimme, kuinka tunnetyön kuormittavuus työn vaatimustekijänä ja transformationaalinen johtajuus sekä palvelumotivaatio työn voimavaratekijöinä ovat yhteydessä työuupumukseen. Stories of professional development in physiotherapy education

This study examines graduating physiotherapy students’ narratives related to their professional development. The data comprised interviews with 33 graduating physiotherapy students. The data were analyzed using the narrative analysis approach. As a result, five different story models were identified. The descriptive story models were named: 1) “Study path dominated by life changes”; 2) “Realizing the connection between physiotherapy theory and practice”; 3) “Self-regulated and practical-oriented learning path”; 4) “Becoming a critical developer”; and 5) “Multiprofessional working towards expertise”. The two-fluid extended model of superfluid helium

In this paper we perform the first numerical comparison between the two main existing models of superfluid helium: the two-fluid model proposed by Landau and the one-fluid extended model proposed from the extended thermodynamics. The numerical experiments in this paper regard the profiles of the so-called normal and superfluid components in 2D counterflow turbulence.
Evidence of Single State Dominance in the Two-Neutrino Double-β Decay of ^{82}Se with CUPID-0.

We report on the measurement of the two-neutrino double-β decay of ^{82}Se performed for the first time with cryogenic calorimeters, in the framework of the CUPID-0 experiment. With an exposure of 9.95 kg yr of Zn^{82}Se, we determine the two-neutrino double-β decay half-life of ^{82}Se with an unprecedented precision level, T_{1/2}^{2ν}=[8.60±0.03(stat) _{-0.13}^{+0.19}(syst)]×10^{19} yr. The very high signal-to-background ratio, along with the detailed reconstruction of the background sources allowed us to identify the single state dominance as the underlying mechanism of such a process, demonstrating that the higher state dominance hypothesis is disfavored at the level of 5.5σ.
Promoting Cooperation between Educational Institutions and Workplaces : Models of Integrative Pedagogy and Connectivity Revisited

This theoretical review reflects on the development and application of the Integrative Pedagogical model as well as the Connective model investigating the organisation of learning in the interface between educational institutions and workplaces. The article explores the aspects that these two models emphasise, and identifies similarities and differences between them. Key studies on these approaches were reviewed to accomplish the task. The review shows how integrative pedagogy takes the individual’s learning as its starting point and how educators can support students by encouraging them to combine theoretical knowledge, experience and self-regulation in learning.
