Poisson convergence on continuous time branching random walks and multistage carcinogenesis.

1982

A theorem for Poisson convergence on realizations of two-dimensional Branching Random Walks with an underlying continuous time Markov Branching Process is proved. This result can be used to gain an approximation for the number of cells having sustained a certain deficiency after a long time in multistage carcinogenesis.

Measuring Connectivity in Linear Multivariate Processes: Definitions, Interpretation, and Practical Analysis

2011

This tutorial paper introduces a common framework for the evaluation of widely used frequency-domain measures of coupling (coherence, partial coherence) and causality (directed coherence, partial directed coherence) from the parametric representation of linear multivariate (MV) processes. After providing a comprehensive time-domain definition of the various forms of connectivity observed in MV processes, we particularize them to MV autoregressive (MVAR) processes and derive the corresponding frequency-domain measures. Then, we discuss the theoretical interpretation of these MVAR-based connectivity measures, showing that each of them reflects a specific time-domain connectivity definition an…

A discrete mathematical model for addictive buying: Predicting the affected population evolution

2011

This paper deals with the construction of a discrete mathematical model for addictive buying. Firstly, identifications of consumers buying behavior are performed by using multivariate statistical techniques based on real data bases and sociological approaches. Then the population is divided into appropriate groups according to the level of overbuying and a discrete compartmental model is constructed. The future short term addicted population is computed assuming several future economic scenarios. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.

Influence of cerium content and heat treatment on Ce:YAG@glass wool nanostructures

2019

The paper reports the influence of cerium content and heat treatment on composition, structural features and optical properties of nanostructures constituted by a layer of Ce:YAG nanoparticles on glass wool (Ce:YAG@GW). The Ce:YAG@GW nanostructures were obtained embedding the glass wool (GW) in a gel-like precursor and calcining at 800 and 900 °C. Gel-like precursor of urea glass route (UGR) method has been used to prepare both nanostructures and Ce:YAG nanoparticles prepared as references. Structural properties were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). Results showed that the composition of the final products strongly depends both on the cerium cont…

The generalized plane piezoelectric problem: Theoretical formulation and application to heterostructure nanowires

2016

We present a systematic methodology for the reformulation of a broad class of three-dimensional (3D) piezoelectric problems into a two-dimensional (2D) mathematical form. The sole underlying hypothesis is that the system geometry and material properties as well as the applied loads (forces and charges) and boundary conditions are translationally invariant along some direction. This class of problems is commonly denoted here as the generalized plane piezoelectric (GPP) problem. The first advantage of the generalized plane problems is that they are more manageable from both analytical and computational points of view. Moreover, they are flexible enough to accommodate any geometric cross secti…

Characteristics of seasonal variations and noises of the daily double-difference and PPP solutions

2020

Abstract Long term GNSS observations provided by networks of the continuously operating reference stations (CORS) allow for determination of the global and local tectonic plate movements and seasonal variations. In recent years, PPP (Precise Point Positioning) technique has become increasingly popular and most likely in the future will replace relative positioning with CORS stations. In this paper, we discuss the difference of the velocity and seasonal component estimates of 25 Latvian CORS stations on the basis of daily PPP solutions from the Nevada Geodetic Laboratory and double-difference solutions from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of the University of Latvia. Time series …

Non-local multiscale approach for the impact of go or grow hypothesis on tumour-viruses interactions

2021

International audience; We propose and study computationally a novel non-local multiscale moving boundary mathematical model for tumour and oncolytic virus (OV) interactions when we consider the go or grow hypothesis for cancer dynamics. This spatio-temporal model focuses on two cancer cell phenotypes that can be infected with the OV or remain uninfected, and which can either move in response to the extracellular-matrix (ECM) density or proliferate. The interactions between cancer cells, those among cancer cells and ECM, and those among cells and OV occur at the macroscale. At the micro-scale, we focus on the interactions between cells and matrix degrading enzymes (MDEs) that impact the mov…

QUALITATIVE PROPERTIES OF THE SOLUTIONS OF A NONLINEAR FLUX-LIMITED EQUATION ARISING IN THE TRANSPORT OF MORPHOGENS

2011

In this paper we study some qualitative properties of the solutions of a nonlinear flux-limited equation arising in the transport of morphogens in biological systems. Questions related to the existence of steady states, the finite speed of propagating fronts or the regularization in the interior of the support are studied from analytical and numerical points of view.
