Retrieving precipitation data from raingauge network is a classical and common practice in hydrology and climatology. These data represent the key input in hydrological modeling to reproduce, for example, the characteristics of a flood phenomenon. The accuracy of the model results is strongly dependent on the consistency of the monitoring network in terms of spatial scale, i.e. network density and location of raingauges, and time resolution. By considering two examples in Eastern and Southern Africa, this work has two aims: a better understanding of the influence of topography on the spatial distribution of rainfall and an optimal interpolation of station rainfall data, taking into account topography. The paper describes the results of a study based on the integration of remote sensing and geographical information system techniques to evaluate a distributed unit hydrograph model linked to an excess rainfall model for estimating the streamflow response at the outlet of a watershed. Displacement Evolution of a Large Landslide in a Highly Fissured Clay

The paper presents an analysis and modelling of the reactivation mechanism of a large landslide caused by rainfall, located in Cerda (Sicily, Italy). The study is based on data collected by means of a field investigation, carried out in order to assess the geotechnical properties of the involved material, and a three-year monitoring programme implemented to measure rain and pore water pressures as well as deep and superficial displacements. Three distinct landslides, evolving at variable rates in different directions, were recognized within the overall landslide area. Models of Dynamical Modelling Under Uncertainty

The objective of this work is to modelize the evolution of a Model-System to be adapted to a Random System. This evolution is described by means of the change of a probabilistic function, through deterministic rules and in function of the random responses of the modelized System. This probabilistic function can describe the relative weight of distinct submodels (deterministic or random Systems, with constant or variable stimulus), or the stimulus-response relation in the Model-System (Adaptative Random System). We conclude that the Adaptative Random Model permits a more precise, simple and economical modelling.

Abstract Purpose Shoulder instability and reduced range of motion are two common complications of a total reverse shoulder arthroplasty. In this work, a new approach is proposed to estimate how the glenoid component positioning can influence the stability and the range of motion of a reverse shoulder prosthesis. Materials and methods A standard reverse shoulder prosthesis has been analysed.
