A differential role of CREB phosphorylation in cAMP-inducible gene expression in the rat pineal

2000

In the rat pineal gland cAMP mediates nocturnal induction of the enzyme arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase (AA-NAT) as well as of transcription factors such as inducible cAMP early repressor (ICER), Fos-related antigen-2 (Fra-2) and JunB. Cyclic AMP stimulates the phosphorylation of the DNA binding protein cAMP response element binding protein (CREB). While cAMP-induced CREB phosphorylation appears to be a prerequisite for AA-NAT and ICER gene expression, it is not known whether CREB phosphorylation accounts for the full cAMP response of the two genes. Furthermore, the significance of CREB phosphorylation in cAMP-activated Fra-2 and JunB transcription is unknown. In the present in vitro stu…

An open-source instrumentation package for intensive soil hydraulic characterization

2020

International audience; We present a new open-source and modular instrumentation package composed of up to ten automatic in- filtrometers connected to data acquisition systems for automatic recording of multiple infiltration experiments. The infiltrometers are equipped with differential transducers to monitor water level changes in a Mariotte re- servoir, and, in turn, to quantify water infiltration rates. The data acquisition systems consist of low-cost components and operate on the open-source microcontroller platform Arduino. The devices were tested both in the laboratory and on different urban and agricultural soils in France and India. More specifically, we tested three procedures to t…

A Compact SPICE Model for Organic TFTs and Applications to Logic Circuit Design

2016

This work introduces a compact DC model developed for organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) and its SPICE implementation. The model relies on a modified version of the gradual channel approximation that takes into account the contact effects, occurring at nonohmic metal/organic semiconductor junctions, modeling them as reverse biased Schottky diodes. The model also comprises channel length modulation and scalability of drain current with respect to channel length. To show the suitability of the model, we used it to design an inverter and a ring oscillator circuit. Furthermore, an experimental validation of the OTFTs has been done at the level of the single device as well as with a discrete-…

Synthesis and biological evaluation of 2-(3 ',4 ',5 '-trimethoxybenzoyl)-3-amino 5-aryl thiophenes as a new class of tubulin inhibitors

2006

2-(3',4',5'-Trimethoxybenzoyl)-3-amino-5-aryl/heteroaryl thiophene derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for antiproliferative activity, inhibition of tubulin polymerization, and cell cycle effects. SARs were elucidated with various substitutions on the aryl moiety 5-position of the thienyl ring. Substituents at the para-position of the 5-phenyl group showed antiproliferative activity in the order of F=CH(3) > OCH(3)=Br=NO(2) > CF(3)=I > OEt. Several of these compounds led to arrest of HL-60 cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle and induction of apoptosis.

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells are inefficient in activation of human regulatory T cells

2011

BACKGROUND: Dendritic cells (DC) play a key role in initiation and regulation of immune responses. Plasmacytoid DC (pDC), a small subset of DC, characterized as type-I interferon producing cells, are critically involved in anti-viral immune responses, but also mediate tolerance by induction of regulatory T cells (Treg). In this study, we compared the capacity of human pDC and conventional DC (cDC) to modulate T cell activity in presence of Foxp3(+) Treg. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: In coculture of T effector cells (Teff) and Treg, activated cDC overcome Treg anergy, abrogate their suppressive function and induce Teff proliferation. In contrast, pDC do not break Treg anergy but induce Teff prolifera…

Targeting cancer stem cells and the tumor microenvironment

2015

Compelling evidence indicates that the survival and behavior of cancer stem cells (CSCs) are positively regulated by specific stimuli received from the tumor microenvironment, which dictates the maintenance of stemness, invasiveness, and protection against drug-induced apoptotic signals. CSCs are per se endowed with multiple treatment resistance capabilities, thus the eradication of CSC pools offers a precious strategy in achieving a long-term cancer remission. Numerous therapies, aimed at eradicating CSCs, have been elaborated such as: (i) selective targeting of CSCs, (ii) modulating their stemness and (iii) influencing the microenvironment. In this context, markers commonly exploited to i…

Characterization of dual-polarization analogue radio over fiber fronthaul for LTE C-RAN architecture

2016

Direct activation of zebrafish neurons by ultrasonic stimulation revealed by whole CNS calcium imaging

2020

Abstract Objective. Ultrasounds (US) use in neural engineering is so far mainly limited to ablation through high intensity focused ultrasound, but interesting preliminary results show that low intensity low frequency ultrasound could be used instead to modulate neural activity. However, the extent of this modulatory ability of US is still unclear, as in in vivo studies it is hard to disentangle the contribution to neural responses of direct activation of the neuron by US stimulation and indirect activation due either to sensory response to mechanical stimulation associated to US, or to propagation of activity from neighboring areas. Here, we aim to show how to separate the three effects and…

Some Moduli and Constants Related to Metric Fixed Point Theory

2001

Indeed, there are a lot of quantitative descriptions of geometrical properties of Banach spaces. The most common way for creating these descriptions, is to define a real function (a “modulus” depending on the Banach space under consideration, and from this define a suitable constant or coefficient closely related to this function. The moduli and/or the constants are attempts to get a better understanding about two things: The shape of the unit ball of a space, and The hidden relations between weak and strong convergence of sequences.

Modulation of H-reflex and V-wave responses during dynamic balance perturbations

2023

AbstractMotoneuron excitability is possible to measure using H-reflex and V-wave responses. However, it is not known how the motor control is organized, how the H-reflex and V-wave responses modulate and how repeatable these are during dynamic balance perturbations. To assess the repeatability, 16 participants (8 men, 8 women) went through two, identical measurement sessions with ~ 48 h intervals, where maximal isometric plantar flexion (IMVC) and dynamic balance perturbations in horizontal, anterior–posterior direction were performed. Soleus muscle (SOL) neural modulation during balance perturbations were measured at 40, 70, 100 and 130 ms after ankle movement by using both H-reflex and V-…
