Exploring the 2,2′-Diamino-5,5′-bipyrimidine Hydrogen-Bonding Motif: A Modular Approach to Alkoxy-Functionalized Hydrogen-Bonded Networks

1998

The programmed self-association of 2,2’-diamino-4,4’-dialkoxy-5,5’-bipyrimidines allows for the de novo construction of alkoxy-functionalized H-bonded ribbons and sheets as evidenced by X-ray crystallographic analysis. The data provide insight into the interplay of the different structural and interactional features of the molecular components to the generation of the supramolecular assembly. Hydrophobicity of the didodecyl side chains of 4c leads to the dominance of the H-bonding factor, resulting in the formation of a fully interconnected array. These results define the utility of the of 2,2’-diamino-4,4’-dialkoxy-5,5’-bipyrimidines as a potential scaffold for the attachment of electro- o…

First results towards building up a reliable in situ measurements database for LST algorithm validations using modular WSN: Northern Morocco campaign…

2012

This article presents a new method sensitivity ∼0.1°C for in situ LST measurements. The results of wide in situ LST campaigns carried out during 2009 in four distant and different sites located in northern Morocco are shown: 1 Kasr-Seghir, 2 Targha, 3 Tangier, and 4 Chefchaouen. For this purpose, we used two calibrated radiometers with thermal infrared bands, OSM101 and TESTO845. Finally, during these campaigns, a total of 28,531 measurements were made with the proposed wireless-LST Wi-LST system. The preliminary results show a wide variability of the measurements, which is in total accordance with the heterogeneity of the targets' nature. This is encouraging for we are interested in buildi…

Combining OWL Ontologies Using -Connections

2006

The standardization of the Web Ontology Language, OWL, leaves (at least) two crucial issues for Web-based ontologies unsatisfactorily resolved, namely how to represent and reason with multiple distinct, but linked ontologies, and how to enable effective knowledge reuse and sharing on the Semantic Web. In this paper, we present a solution for these fundamental problems based on ℇ-Connections. We aim to use ℇ-Connections to provide modelers with suitable means for developing Web ontologies in a modular way and to provide an alternative to the owl:imports construct. With such motivation, we present in this paper a syntactic and semantic extension of the Web Ontology language that covers ℇ-Conn…

Experimental Study of Vibrations in Face Milling Cutting

2014

The paper consists of a research in designing and experimental analysis using a face milling cutter with round inserts. A general model for the new cutter is proposed taking into consideration multiple aspects regarding monitoring and controling the milling process. A comparison of measured vibrations when cutting with different parameters for two constructions of the milling head is presented. The objective of this vibration comparison is to verify wether the new design behaves in similar way with the classic and proven concept of insert clamping using a central screw.

Development of a modular room-temperature hydride storage system for vehicular applications

2016

The subject of this paper concerns the development of a vehicular hydrogen tank system, using a commercial interstitial metal hydride as storage material. The design of the tank was intended to feed a fuel cell in a light prototype vehicle, and the chosen hydride material, Hydralloy C5 by GfE, was expected to be able to absorb and desorb hydrogen in a range of pressure suitable for this purpose. A systematic analysis of the material in laboratory scale allows an extrapolation of the thermodynamic and reaction kinetics data. The following development of the modular tank was done according to the requirements of the prototype vehicle propulsion system and led to promising intermediate results…

Ultrascale+ for the new ATLAS calorimeter trigger board dedicated to jet identification

2018

To cope with the expected increase in luminosity at the Large Hadron Collider in 2021, the ATLAS collaboration is planning a major detector upgrade to be installed during Long Shutdown 2. As a part of this, the Level 1 trigger, based on calorimeter data, will be upgraded to exploit the fine granularity readout using a new system of Feature EXtractors (FEXs), which each reconstruct different physics objects for the trigger selection. The Jet FEX (jFEX) is one of three FEXs and has been conceived to identify small/large area jets, large area tau leptons, missing transverse energy and the total sum of the transverse energy. The use of the latest generation Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Array …

MODULAR KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTATION IN ADVISOR AGENTS FOR SITUATION AWARENESS

2011

A modular knowledge representation framework for conversational agents is presented. The approach has been realized to suit the situation awareness paradigm. The modularity of the framework makes possible the composition of specific modules that deal with particular features, simplifying both the chatbot design process and its smartness. As a proof of concepts we have developed a modular, situation awareness oriented, KB for a conversational agent, which plays the role of an advisor aimed at helping a user to be in charge of a virtual town, inspired to the SimCity series game. The agent makes an extensive use of semantic computing techniques and is able to perceive, comprehend and project c…

A modular "toolbox" approach to flexible branched multimacrocyclic hosts as precursors for multiply interlocked architectures.

2008

Tetralactam macrocycles can be functionalized by a variety of cross-coupling reactions. A modular “toolbox” strategy is presented that allows 1) several tetralactam macrocycles to be covalently connected with each other or with a central spacer, 2) the macrocycles to be substituted with or connected to different chromophores, and 3) metal-coordination sites to be attached to the macrocycles. With this approach a series of different oligo-macrocyclic hosts was obtained with great structural diversity and enormous potential for further functionalization. Rotaxanes made on the basis of these macrocycles have been synthesized to demonstrate their utility in building more complex supramolecular …

Highly Modular Flow Cell for Electroorganic Synthesis

2017

A highly modular electrochemical flow cell and its application in electroorganic synthesis is reported. This innovative setup facilitates many aspects: an easy adjustment of electrode distance, quick exchange of electrode material, and the possibility to easily switch between a divided or undivided cell. However, the major benefit of the cell is the exact thermal positioning of the electrode material into a Teflon piece. Thereby, the application of expensive and nonmachinable electrode materials like boron-doped diamond or glassy carbon can easily be realized in flow cells. By this geometry, the maximum surface of such valuable electrode materials is exploited. The cell size can compete wit…
