Abstract. The coupling of Earth system model components, which work on different grids, into an Earth System Model (ESM) provokes the necessity to transfer data from one grid to another. Additionally, each of these model components might require data import onto its specific grid. Usually, one of two approaches is used: Either all input data is preprocessed to the employed grid, or the imported data is interpolated on-line, i.e. during model integration to the required grid. Using Cloud, Modularity, and Make-to-Upgrade Strategy for Integrating Customized-Oriented Supply Networks

In the current global business individual demand play crucial roles. Customized-oriented supply networks are being proliferated in manufacturing industries, yet integration of their members is still quite challenging. As a practical solution, in this paper a new collaborative approach out of modularity structure, cloud computing, and a novel production strategy, called Make-to-Upgrade (MTU), is suggested. The complementary aspects of these techniques are highlighted and briefly explained here. MTU is as a strategy for future products with new characteristics, e.g., upgradability.

SUMMARY: How interactions between individuals contribute to the emergence of complex societies is a major question in biology. Nonetheless, little remains known about how simple rules of social attraction (e.g. to information) and social avoidance (e.g. of disease) interact to shape sociality. By a sequential surface-analogous reaction different functions could be immobilized in a defined ratio, resulting in dual- or triple-functionalized surfaces.

Synthetic biology aims at the design and construction of biological devices and systems for useful purposes. From an ideal engineering perspective synthetic biology works from rational design made through a few conceptual pillars, namely abstraction, standardization and modularity. Nevertheless, the combination of our still fragmentary biological knowledge and the messy nature of biological devices are major challenges for engineering life in a predictive manner. It is urgent to build bridges between different disciplines, from biology to engineer and back, to pursue this extraordinary goal of making life.
