COST 241 intercomparison of nonlinear refractive index measurements in dispersion shifted optical fibres at =1550 nm

1997

COST 241 measurements of the nonlinear refractive index, n/sub 2/, exhibit a large scatter depending on the specific measurement technique. This is largely due to the electrostrictive contribution to the Kerr nonlinearity, as is revealed by the resonant behaviour of n/sub 2/ (with peak values up to 3.9 10/sup -20/ m/sup 2/ W/sup -1/) observed with signal modulation frequencies in the 0.11 GHz range.

Characterization of Radio Frequency Echo using frequency sweeping and power analysis

2014

International audience; Coupling between repeater's antennas, called Radio Frequency Echo (RFE) deteriorates signal quality and compromises system stability. If the channel insulation is insufficient, the power in the closed-loop raises with time according to the gain margin value. Multiple methods of echo cancellation exists. Generally, these techniques are based on correlation calculation and adaptive filtering. However, their efficiency and algorithm's convergence speed are calling into question under signal's modulation and real-time constraints, specially with narrow band signals having frequency hopping as GSM or TETRA. This paper describes a real time method of RFE detection and esti…

Lentiviral transduction of face and limb flaps: implications for immunomodulation of vascularized composite allografts.

2012

Background Ex vivo introduction of an immunomodulatory transgene into a face or hand allograft may improve the risk-to-benefit ratio of vascularized composite allografts. Abrogation of the immunogenicity of the skin component of a face or hand allograft may decrease alloreactivity and permit the induction of immunologic tolerance. Proof-of-principle demonstrations of transduction of composite tissue have been established using adenoviral vectors, producing transient gene expression. The authors hypothesized that transduction, integration, and long-term expression of transgenes in a vascularized composite allograft could be achieved using lentiviral vectors. Methods Ex vivo transduction of h…

The mitotic spindle protein SPAG5/Astrin connects to the Usher protein network postmitotically

2011

Abstract Background Mutations in the gene for Usher syndrome 2A (USH2A) are causative for non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa and Usher syndrome, a condition that is the most common cause of combined deaf-blindness. To gain insight into the molecular pathology underlying USH2A-associated retinal degeneration, we aimed to identify interacting proteins of USH2A isoform B (USH2AisoB) in the retina. Results We identified the centrosomal and microtubule-associated protein sperm-associated antigen (SPAG)5 in the retina. SPAG5 was also found to interact with another previously described USH2AisoB interaction partner: the centrosomal ninein-like protein NINLisoB. Using In situ hybridization, we foun…

Digital demodulation for fast set-up of sensorless PMSM electrical drives based on magnetic anisotropy

2009

This paper presents a demodulation algorithm applied to the sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The sensorless control technique reported in this paper is based on the injection of high frequency voltages to the stator so that the motor currents contain information on the rotor position. This information is then extracted by an appropriate demodulation technique. The presented demodulation algorithm is based on spectral analysis of the signal produced by the sensorless control technique because this is fully characterized and presents not ambiguous correlation between current harmonic content and rotor position. The most important feature of the demodulation al…

Enhanced modulation strategy for 7-level voltage waveform in asymmetrical 5-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverters

2022

The CHBMI performance optimization can be reached both with hardware and software solutions. Generally, asymmetrical configurations allow the extension of the voltage levels number and the implementation of an innovative modulation strategy allows for improving the performance in terms of harmonic distortion and conversion efficiency. This work is devoted to the development of a modulation strategy that allows improving the performance of an asymmetrical single-phase five-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter generating a 7-level voltage waveform. Thus, a digital approach and corresponding digital functions are presented. Subsequently, the impact of the dead time and the influence on the voltage…

Relative line intensity measurement in absorption spectra using a tunable diode laser at 1.6 um: application to the determination of (13CO2)/(12CO2) …

2001

0946-2171; The measurement of relative intensities in CO2 combination bands spectrum is performed using wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS) and a DFB (distributed feedback) diode laser operating at 1.6 mum. The diode laser is stabilized with an external Fabry-Perot interferometer and absorption spectroscopy is performed in a multipass gas cell. A spectrum containing spectral lines of both 13CO2 and 12CO2 isotopic species is recorded. The variation of laser power during frequency scanning and the line shape are taken into account to accurately extract line intensities from experimental data. The isotopic concentration ratio is deduced from the intensity ratio. Both ratios are measured w…

Model-Based Evaluation of Methods for Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia Estimation

2021

OBJECTIVE: Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) refers to heart rate oscillations synchronous with respiration, and it is one of the major representations of cardiorespiratory coupling. Its strength has been suggested as a biomarker to monitor different conditions, and diseases. Some approaches have been proposed to quantify the RSA, but it is unclear which one performs best in specific scenarios. The main objective of this study is to compare seven state-of-the-art methods for RSA quantification using data generated with a model proposed to simulate, and control the RSA. These methods are also compared, and evaluated on a real-life application, for their ability to capture changes in cardior…

Performance Analysis of M-DPSK Modulation over Fast-Hoyt Fading Channels under Non-Isotropic Scattering Conditions

2021

In this paper, we analyze the symbol error probability (SEP) performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (M-DPSK) modulation schemes over frequency-flat fast-varying Hoyt multipath fading channels. Assuming general non-isotropic scattering conditions, we first derive a finite-range integral expression for the probability density function (PDF) of the phase difference between two non-isotropic Hoyt vectors perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Based upon the theory of M-DPSK modulation and the obtained PDF formula, the SEP of M-DPSK and its corresponding asymptotic behavior in non-isotropic fast-Hoyt fading channels are derived. Specifically, a double semi-finite range …
