Extremal properties of the determinant of the Laplacian in the Bergman metric on the moduli space of genus two Riemann surfaces

We study extremal properties of the determinant of the Laplacian in the Bergman metric on the moduli space of compact genus two Riemann surfaces. By a combination of analytical and numerical methods we identify four non-degenerate critical points of this function and compute the signature of the Hessian at these points. The curve with the maximal number of automorphisms (the Burnside curve) turns out to be the point of the absolute maximum. Our results agree with the mass formula for orbifold Euler characteristics of the moduli space. A similar analysis is performed for the Bolza's strata of symmetric Riemann surfaces of genus two.

Abstract Radial cracking around inclusions in a matrix originated by their differential elastic behavior allows the development of a new method for reconstructing the evolution of P-T paths during metamorphism. The appearance of radial cracking is a function of the variation of the elastic parameters between the matrix and inclusion, the initial P-T conditions of inclusion entrapment and the component of isothermal decompression characteristic for a retrograde path. In the previous chapter, a detailed description of the algorithms for the ‘algcurves’ package in Maple was presented. As discussed there, the package is able to handle general algebraic curves with coefficients given as exact arithmetic expressions, a restriction due to the use of exact integer arithmetic. Coefficients in terms of floating point numbers, i.e., the representation of decimal numbers of finite length on a computer, can in principle be handled, but the floating point numbers have to be converted to rational numbers. Modulation of neuronal phospholipase D activity under depolarizing conditions

Neuronal phospholipase D (PLD) activity was hypothesized to be involved in vesicle trafficking and endocytosis and, possibly, transmitter release. We here report that prolonged depolarization of rat hippocampal slices by potassium chloride (KCl) or 4-aminopyridine inhibited PLD activity. Similarly, PLD activity in rat cortical synaptosomes was significantly inhibited by depolarizing agents including veratridine and ouabain. Inhibition of calcium/calmodulin kinase II (CaMKII) which positively modulates synaptosomal PLD activity [Sarri et al. GAP-43 (growth-associated protein of 43 kDa; also known as neuromodulin, P-57, B-50 and F-1) is a neuronal calmodulin binding protein and a major protein kinase C (PKC) substrate in mammalian brain. Here we describe the phosphorylation by and the site specificity of different PKC isotypes. The conventional PKC beta 1 and the novel PKCs delta and epsilon effectively phosphorylated recombinant GAP-43 in vitro; atypical PKC zeta did not. Variations on S-fold CFTs

A local SL(2,Z) transformation on the Type IIB brane configuration gives rise to an interesting class of superconformal field theories, known as the S-fold CFTs. Previously it has been proposed that the corresponding quiver theory has a link involving the T(U(N)) theory. In this paper, we generalise the preceding result by studying quivers that contain a T(G) link, where G is self-dual under S-duality. In particular, the cases of G = SO(2N), USp'(2N) and G_2 are examined in detail. We propose the theories that arise from an appropriate insertion of an S-fold into a brane system, in the presence of an orientifold threeplane or an orientifold fiveplane. No-scale N=4 supergravity coupled to Yang-Mills: the scalar potential and super-Higgs effect

We derive the scalar potential of the effective theory of type IIB orientifold with 3-form fluxes turned on in presence of non abelian brane coordinates. N=4 supergravity predicts a positive semidefinite potential with vanishing cosmological constant in the vacuum of commuting coordinates, with a classical moduli space given by three radial moduli and three RR scalars which complete three copies of the coset (U(1,1+n)/U(1)\otimes U(1+n)), together with 6n D3-branes coordinates, n being the rank of the gauge group G. Implications for the super Higgs mechanism are also discussed.
Inflationary Imprints on Dark Matter

We show that dark matter abundance and the inflationary scale $H$ could be intimately related. Standard Model extensions with Higgs mediated couplings to new physics typically contain extra scalars displaced from vacuum during inflation. If their coupling to Standard Model is weak, they will not thermalize and may easily constitute too much dark matter reminiscent to the moduli problem. As an example we consider Standard Model extended by a $Z_2$ symmetric singlet $s$ coupled to the Standard Model Higgs $\Phi$ via $\lambda \Phi^{\dag}\Phi s^2$. Abstract Anisotropy of centro-symmetric (first) strain gradient elastic materials is addressed and the role there played by the dual gradient directions (i.e. directions of strain gradient and of double stress lever arm) is investigated. Anisotropy manifests itself not only through the classical fourth-rank elasticity tensor C (21 independent constants) in the form of moduli anisotropy, but also through a sixth-rank elasticity tensor B (171 independent constants) in a unified non-separable form as compound internal length/moduli anisotropy.
