Equivariance in topological gravity

1992

Abstract We present models of topological gravity for a variety of moduli space conditions. In four dimensions, we construct a model for self-dual gravity characterized by the moduli condition R + μν =0, and in two dimensions we treat the case of constant scalar curvature. Details are also given for both flat and Yang-Mills type moduli conditions in arbitrary dimensions. All models are based on the same fundamental multiplet which conveniently affords the construction of a complete hierarchy of observables. This approach is founded on a symmetry algebra which includes a local vector supersymmetry, in addition to a global BRST-like symmetry which is equivariant with respect to Lorentz transf…

Unitarity Triangles and the Search for New Physics

2002

Assuming that the Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism gives the dominant contribution to CP violation at low energies, we propose a novel way of testing the flavour sector of the Standard Model which has the potencial for discovering New Physics. Using 3 x 3 unitarity of the V_{CKM} matrix and choosing a complete set of rephasing invariant phases, we derive a set of exact relations in terms of measurable quantities, namely moduli of V_{CKM} and arguments of rephasing invariant quartets. These tests complement the usual analysis in the \rho, \eta plane and, if there is New Physics, may reveal its source.

The unequal mass sunrise integral expressed through iterated integrals on M‾1,3

2020

Abstract We solve the two-loop sunrise integral with unequal masses systematically to all orders in the dimensional regularisation parameter e. In order to do so, we transform the system of differential equations for the master integrals to an e-form. The sunrise integral with unequal masses depends on three kinematical variables. We perform a change of variables to standard coordinates on the moduli space M 1 , 3 of a genus one Riemann surface with three marked points. This gives us the solution as iterated integrals on M ‾ 1 , 3 . On the hypersurface τ = const our result reduces to elliptic polylogarithms. In the equal mass case our result reduces to iterated integrals of modular forms.

Deforming D-brane models on T6/(Z2×Z2M) orbifolds

2016

We review the stabilisation of complex structure moduli in Type IIA orientifolds, especially on with discrete torsion, via deformations of orbifold singularities. While D6-branes in SO(2N) and USp(2N) models always preserve supersymmetry and thus give rise to flat directions, in an exemplary Pati-Salam model with only U(N) gauge groups ten out of the 15 deformation moduli can be stabilised at the orbifold point.

Moduli spaces of discrete gravity

2003

Spectral triples describe and generalize Riemannian spin geometries by converting the geometrical information into algebraic data, which consist of an algebra $A$, a Hilbert space $H$ carrying a representation of $A$ and the Dirac operator $D$ (a selfadjoint operator acting on $H$). The gravitational action is described by the trace of a suitable function of $D$. In this paper we examine the (path-integral-) quantization of such a system given by a finite dimensional commutative algebra. It is then (in concrete examples) possible to construct the moduli space of the theory, i.e. to divide the space of all Dirac operators by the action of the diffeomorphism group, and to construct an invaria…

Hilbert space partitioning for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: From off-resonance to Zeno subspaces

2020

Abstract Effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonians describing decaying systems are derived and analyzed in connection with the occurrence of possible Hilbert space partitioning, resulting in a confinement of the dynamics. In some cases, this fact can be interpreted properly as Zeno effect or Zeno dynamics, according to the dimension of the subspace one focuses on; in some other cases, the interpretation is more complicated and traceable back to a mix of Zeno phenomena and lack of resonance. Depending on the complex phases of the diagonal terms of the Hamiltonian, the system reacts in different ways, requiring larger moduli for the dynamical confinement to occur when the complex phase is close to…

From stringy particle physics to moduli stabilisation and cosmology

2016

Intersecting D6-branes provide a geometrically intuitive road to stringy particle physics models, where D6-branes stuck at orbifold singularities can lead to the stabilisation of deformation moduli, and the QCD axion can arise from the open string sector in a very constrained way compared to pure field theory. We demonstrate this interplay of different physical features here through an explicit model.

Activation of MAPK homologues by elicitors in tobacco cells

1998

International audience; Elicitors of plant defence reactions (such as cryptogein, an elicitin produced by Phytophthora cryptogea, or oligogalacturonides (OGs)), induced in tobacco cell suspensions (Nicotiana tabacum var Xanthi) a rapid and transient activation of two protein kinases (PKs) with apparent molecular masses of 50 and 46 kDa, respectively. These PKs activated and phosphorylated at tyrosine residues, phosphorylated myelin basic protein (MBP) at serine/threonine residues. Both are recognized by anti-MAPK antibodies. The two MBP kinases possessed the same kinetics of activation, and their activation depended, to the same extent, on different exogenously applied compounds (staurospor…

Kinetics of thrombomodulin release and endothelial cell injury by neutrophil-derived proteases and oxygen radicals

2002

Thrombomodulin is a transmembranous glycoprotein of endothelial cells. In vitro it is a marker of endothelial cell injury. In vivo the levels of serum thrombomodulin are regarded as a parameter of activity in vasculitides. The latter are pathophysiologically determined by neutrophil-derived inflammation and endothelial cell injury caused by secretion of proteases and hydrogen peroxide. It was the objective of this study to determine whether thrombomodulin is only a late marker of advanced endothelial cell injury or whether it indicates also earlier stages of cell alterations. Over 24 hr endothelial cell cultures were incubated with hydrogen peroxide or the neutrophil proteases proteinase-3,…
