Carcinoma of the neovagina: case report and review of the literature.
2001
Abstract Background. Carcinoma of the vagina is a rare disease, and it is even more rare in the neovagina. Nevertheless, it has been well described. The aim of this report was to analyze the reported cases and to add observations concerning a risk profile for this rare occurrence of carcinoma. Case report. The 29-year-old patient's history included congenital absence of vagina as a result of Rokitansky–Kuster syndrome. In 1987, when the patient was 17 years old, a neovagina was constructed by dissection between the bladder and the rectum, according to the Warthon method, and the apex of the neovagina was covered with Dura-mater. In 1990 the patient underwent radiation treatment with brachyt…
Alemtuzumab (Campath-1H) and CHOP chemotherapy as first-line treatment of peripheral T-cell lymphoma: results of a GITIL (Gruppo Italiano Terapie Inn…
2007
To evaluate in a prospective multicenter trial the feasibility and clinical efficacy of the combination of alemtuzumab (Campath-1H) with the cyclophosphamide/doxorubicin/vincristine/prednisone (CHOP) regimen (CHOP-C) as the primary treatment for patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL), between January 2003 and December 2005, 24 consecutive patients with PTCL entered the study and received 8 CHOP courses. Alemtuzumab was added at 30 mg subcutaneously at day −1 initially to the first 4 courses (4 patients), and then to all 8 courses (20 patients). Complete remission (CR) was achieved in 17 (71%) patients, 1 had partial remission, and 6 had stable/progressive disease. At a median follo…

L'utilisation de la musique comme support de nouveaux apprentissages dans le vieillisement normal et la maladie d'Alzheimer
2012
This thesis research aims to test the potential of music as a mnemonic support for new learning in normal elderly and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) participants. Several studies have highlighted the beneficial effects of music on cognition in aging and dementia. At the same time, in young adults, the idea that music could serve as a mnemonic support is highly debated. Yet, very few studies addressed this question in aging or dementia. In the present work, we conduct two studies in a cohort of 8 mild Alzheimer’s disease and 7 matched control participants. The first study concerns verbal memory, and compares learning and different retention delays of lyrics (unknown texts) that are either spoken o…
Synthesis of 2-Prenylated Alkoxylated Benzopyrans by Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons Olefination with PPARα/γ Agonist Activity
2021
[Image: see text] We have synthesized series of 2-prenylated benzopyrans as analogues of the natural polycerasoidol, a dual PPARα/γ agonist with anti-inflammatory effects. The prenylated side chain consists of five or nine carbons with an α-alkoxy-α,β-unsaturated ester moiety. Prenylation was introduced via the Grignard reaction, followed by Johnson–Claisen rearrangement, and the α-alkoxy-α,β-unsaturated ester moiety was introduced by the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons reaction. Synthetic derivatives showed high efficacy to activate both hPPARα and hPPARγ as dual PPARα/γ agonists. These prenylated benzopyrans emerge as lead compounds potentially useful for preventing cardiometabolic diseases.
Detecting crop water requirement indicators in irrigated agroecosystems from soil water content profiles: An application for a citrus orchard.
2022
Abstract Most perennial crops sensitive to water scarcity, such as citrus, can benefit from efficient water management, which allows for reduced water consumption while increasing crop production on a long-term basis. However, when implementing water-saving strategies, it is necessary to monitor soil and/or plant water status in order to determine crop water demand. A plethora of devices providing indirect measurements of volumetric soil water content, such as the “drill and drop” multi-sensors probes (Sentek, Inc., Stepney, Australia), have been developed over the last decade. The objective of the paper was to analyse time-series of soil water content profiles and meteorological data colle…

Pieri’s 1900 Point-and-Motion Memoir
2021
This chapter contains an English translation of Mario Pieri’s 1900a memoir, On Elementary Geometry as a Hypothetical Deductive System: Monograph on Point and on Motion.1 By elementary geometry, Pieri meant Euclidean geometry as taught then in elementary courses, except for the theorems dependent on the Euclidean parallel axiom.
Lipid hydrophobicity and physical state effects on the properties of bilayer edible films
2000
Abstract Edible bilayer films based on methylcellulose, used as the film-forming substance, and lipid mixtures, as barriers against moisture transfers, were prepared. The thickness of the lipid layer had little influence on film mechanical properties, regardless of the nature and the solid content of the fat layer. Mechanical resistance was mainly attributed to the methylcellulose matrix. The water vapor transfer rate (WVTR) decreased substantially when film thickness increased up to 100 μm. Upwards, transfer seemed to be independent of thickness. The WVTR was 1.5 up to 2.5 higher for triglyceride lipid layers than alkane lipid layers. Also, WVTR increased by a factor of 25–75 when the liqu…
Nucleophilic benzoylation using a mandelic acid dioxolanone as a synthetic equivalent of the benzoyl carbanion. Oxidative decarboxylation of α-hydrox…
2004
The synthesis of alkyl aryl ketones using a mandelic acid dioxolanone as a synthetic equivalent (Umpolung) of the benzoyl carbanion is reported. The methodology involves alkylation of the mandelic acid dioxolanone, hydrolysis of the dioxolanone moiety in the alkylated products and oxidative decarboxylation of the resulting alpha-hydroxyacids. The last step is carried out in a catalytic aerobic way using a Co (III) complex in the presence of pivalaldehyde under very mild conditions.
