Carbonyl Hypoiodites as Extremely Strong Halogen Bond Donors

2021

Abstract Neutral halogen‐bonded O−I−N complexes were prepared from in situ formed carbonyl hypoiodites and aromatic organic bases. The carbonyl hypoiodites have a strongly polarized iodine atom with larger σ‐holes than any known uncharged halogen bond donor. Modulating the Lewis basicity of the selected pyridine derivatives and carboxylates leads to halogen‐bonded complexes where the classical O−I⋅⋅⋅N halogen bond transforms more into a halogen‐bonded COO−⋅⋅⋅I−N+ ion‐pair (salt) with an asymmetric O−I−N moiety. X‐ray analyses, NMR studies, and calculations reveal the halogen bonding geometries of the carbonyl hypoiodite‐based O−I−N complexes, confirming that in the solid‐state the iodine at…

"Recognition of a Novel Type X=N-Hal•••Hal' (X = , S, P; Hal = F, Cl, Br, I) Halogen Bonding"

2013

The chlorination of the eight-membered platinum(II) chelates (PtCl2{NHC(NR2)N(Ph)C(NH)- N(Ph)C(NR2)NH}) (R = Me (1); R2 = (CH2)5 (2)) with uncomplexed imino group with Cl2 gives complexes bearing the N−Cl moiety (PtCl4{NHC(NR2)N(Ph)C(NCl)N- (Ph)C(NR2)NH}) (R = Me (3); R2 = (CH2)5 (4)). X-ray study for 3 revealed a novel type intermolecular halogen bonding N−Cl···Cl − , formed between the Cl atom of the chlorinated imine and the chloride bound to the platinum(IV) center. The processing relevant structural data retrieved from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSDB) shows that this type of halogen bonding is realized in 18 more molecular species having XN−Hal moieties (X = C, P, S, V…

Highly Fluorinated 2,2′-Biphenols and Related Compounds: Relationship between Substitution Pattern and Herbicidal Activity

2013

A broad range of halogenated 2,2'-biphenols was tested for applicability as crop protection agents. The activity of these compounds toward four typical pest plants was observed after application by spraying of diluted solutions. Despite their rather simple structure, it was found that the studied compounds reveal a surprisingly high herbicidal impact. To gain a better understanding of the structure-activity relationship, specific sites of the molecule were chemically modified and the core structures thus gradually changed. The influence of the substitution pattern on the herbicidal properties is discussed, and conclusions on the active site of the biphenol structure are drawn. It was observ…

Concise and modular synthesis of regioisomeric haptens for the production of high-affinity and stereoselective antibodies to the strobilurin azoxystr…

2011

The immune response to regioisomeric haptens of azoxystrobin with varied derivatization sites was studied. Based on the Sonogashira and Suzuki-Miyaura couplings and following a straightforward modular design, we have synthesized four haptens with the same linker anchored through C-C bonds and located at different sites of the molecule. The most stereoselective antibodies were produced from immunogens with the spacer arm at a distal position from the β-methoxyacrylate moiety characteristic of strobilurins. Moreover, we observed that assay cross-reactivity was reliant on the functionalization site of the competitor derivative. Finally, the antibody binding site was explored using synthetic ch…

Severe Pollution in China Amplified by Atmospheric Moisture

2017

AbstractIn recent years, severe haze events often occurred in China, causing serious environmental problems. The mechanisms responsible for the haze formation, however, are still not well understood, hindering the forecast and mitigation of haze pollution. Our study of the 2012–13 winter haze events in Beijing shows that atmospheric water vapour plays a critical role in enhancing the heavy haze events. Under weak solar radiation and stagnant moist meteorological conditions in winter, air pollutants and water vapour accumulate in a shallow planetary boundary layer (PBL). A positive feedback cycle is triggered resulting in the formation of heavy haze: (1) the dispersal of water vapour is cons…

Spatially localized solutions of the Hammerstein equation with sigmoid type of nonlinearity

2016

Abstract We study the existence of fixed points to a parameterized Hammerstein operator H β , β ∈ ( 0 , ∞ ] , with sigmoid type of nonlinearity. The parameter β ∞ indicates the steepness of the slope of a nonlinear smooth sigmoid function and the limit case β = ∞ corresponds to a discontinuous unit step function. We prove that spatially localized solutions to the fixed point problem for large β exist and can be approximated by the fixed points of H ∞ . These results are of a high importance in biological applications where one often approximates the smooth sigmoid by discontinuous unit step function. Moreover, in order to achieve even better approximation than a solution of the limit proble…

Ville et fortifications : de l'héritage à la production du territoire urbain

2015

A large number of french cities host military historical edifices (citadels, barracks, bastions, defensive walls, etc.). Although their initial defensive functions have been lost over time, these edifices remain deeply rooted in the urban fabric of their host cities. They continue exerting an impact on these cities’ urban morphology and modern-time functions as well as the way in which the concept of city is understood. Cities nowadays face some new challenges, the increasing awareness of urban sprawl and its consequences, coupled with an urge to promote a renewed and sustainable urbanism, invites us to adopt new approaches to study urban fortifications. In addition to their symbolic aspect,…

Metopoplax ditomoides (A. Costa, 1843) (Hemiptera: Oxycarenidae) – pierwsze stwierdzenie w Polsce

2019

Metopoplax ditomoides (A. Costa, 1843) is recorded from Poland for the first time. Several specimens were observed in the package of product imported from France. Death specimens were found under the stretch foil a few months after their transport to Poland.

In BOLD we trust? A commentary on the reliability of specimen identification for DNA barcoding: a case study on burrower bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera…

2016

An assessment was performed regarding the accuracy of various types of data deposited in the Barcode of Life Data system (BOLD) related to the true bug family Cydnidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera). Taxonomic nomenclature and classification, identification reliability, and the correctness of the data provided in the “Taxon description” were analyzed and commented on with respect to both available versions of the BOLD system, i.e. version 3 and beta version 4. Numerous mistakes in taxonomy, the relevance of the taxa names, and species misidentifications in BOLD version 3 were found and, more importantly, similar errors were detected in BOLD version 4 as well. We suggest that if the BOLD system is…
