Volumes and heat capacities of the aqueous sodium dodecanoate/sodium perfluorooctanoate mixtures in the presence of β-cyclodextrin

2003

Apparent molar volumes (VΦ) and heat capacities (CΦ) of the sodium dodecanoate (NaL)/sodium perfluorooctanoate (NaPFO) mixtures in the water/β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) solvent as functions of the surfactant total molality (mt) were determined at 25°C. For a given surfactant mixture, VΦ decreases with mt to ca. 0.05 mol kg−1 thereafter it increases tending to a constant value. CΦ displays a behaviour opposite to VΦ. The mt values where the apparent molar properties exhibit extrema are nearly coincident with the critical micellar concentrations determined by conductivity. An equation correlating VΦ to mt was derived by assuming that the equilibria for the 1∶1 surfactant/cyclodextrin complex format…

Prediction of maxima and minima in the curve of total sorption parameter in ternary polymer systems. Influence of ternary interaction parameter

1993

Flory-Huggins theory modified by Pouchly has been applied to predict maxima and minima in the curve of total sorption in ternary polymer systems formed by a polymer and two liquids. In this work, different diagrams based on experimental magnitudes easily obtained such as the difference in affinities of liquids, solvents and non solvents, and the solvent molar volume ratio. Total sorption parameter has been considered to be the decisive magnitude to define extrema conditions in both cosolvent and cononsolvent ternary polymer systems. The theoretical prediction is not altered by the inclusion of ternary interactions. Different examples of ternary systems dealing with vinyl polymers and polydi…

Refractive Indices and Deviations in Refractive Indices of Trifluoromethanesulfonate-Based Ionic Liquids in Water

2011

Refractive indices were determined for four different ionic liquid + water binary systems, from (288.15 to 338.15) K, and covering the entire composition range. The four ionic liquids used were 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate, all of them being completely miscible in water. From the experimental data, deviations in refractive indices, defined on a volume fraction basis, have been calculated and fitted to an extended version of the Redlich–Kister equation. The behavior of the deviations in refractive in…

Density, Speed of Sound, Viscosity, and Excess Properties of Binary Mixtures Formed by Ethanol and Bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide-Based Ionic Liquids

2015

In this work, viscosities, densities, and speeds of sound of three binary mixtures containing the ionic liquids 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [emim][NTf2], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [bmim][NTf2], and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazo-lium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [hmim][NTf2], mixed with ethanol were measured at atmospheric pressure in the range of (278.15 to 338.15) K, covering the entire range of compositions. From these experimental data, the excess isentropic compressibility and molar isentropic compressibility of pure components and mixtures have been calculated. Additionally, excess properties, such as viscosity dev…

Densities, Refractive Indices, and Derived Excess Properties of the Binary Systems Toluene + Isooctane and Methylcyclohexane + Isooctane and the Tern…

2000

This paper reports mesurements of the densities and refractive indices of the binary systems toluene + isooctane and methylcyclohexane + isooctane and the ternary systems tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) + toluene + isooctane and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) + methylcyclohexane + isooctane over the entire range of composition at 298.15 K. Excess molar volumes and changes of refractive indices were evaluated from the experimental data obtained. These derived properties were fitted to variable-degree polynomials. The experimental values of physical properties were compared with the values estimated by different methods.
