Background Cerebral palsy (CP) is a permanent neurological disorder accompanied by secondary musculoskeletal masticatory disorder, with repercussion on chewing and deglutition functions. In these conditions, the liquids ingestion is compromised resulting in salivary osmolality alteration. The objective of this study was to compare salivary osmolality, caries experience and caries risk between normoreactive individuals and patients with CP. Abstract Objective: To test the hypothesis that some metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and inducible nitric oxide synthetase (iNOS) enzymes in dental pulp samples do not vary when subjected to orthodontic treatment. Fos-like expression and nuclear size in osmotically stimulated supraoptic nucleus neurons

This study has analysed by immunocytochemistry the pattern of expression of Fos-related proteins, as well as variations in nuclear size, after the osmotically induced activation of supraoptic nucleus neurons of the rat. In control rats most supraoptic nucleus neurons were Fos-like negative. After acute and chronic dehydration by salt-loading, the number of Fos-like positive neurons increased dramatically. The level of Fos-like immunoreactivity was higher in chronically stimulated rats, and also the neurons of the ventral region of the supraoptic nucleus were more intensely stained than those of the dorsal region. Uptake and metabolism of choline by rat brain after acute choline administration.

The present study is concerned with the uptake and metabolism of choline by the rat brain. Intraperitoneal administration of choline chloride (4-60 mg/kg) caused a dose-dependent elevation of the plasma choline concentration from 11.8 to up to 165.2 microM within 10 min and the reversal of the negative arteriovenous difference (AVD) of choline across the brain to positive values at plasma choline levels of greater than 23 microM.
