Ultrastructural patterns of human dentinal tubules, odontoblasts processes and nerve fibres.

The structure of the dentin, consists of the following elements: the odontoblastic processes, dentinal tubules and their periodontoblastic spaces. The odontoblasts are aligned in a single layer in the periphery of the dental pulp and secrete the organic components of dentin. The vitality of dentin is mediated too by the nerve fibres. The ultrastructure of the trigeminal sensory nerves in dentin, especially in relation to odontoblasts remains to be clarified. We studied the third molars and young premolars. Maxillary peripheral keratocystic odontogenic tumor. A clinical case report

The keratocystic odontogenic tumor is a benign odontogenic cystic neoplasia characterized by its thin, squamous epithelium with superficial parakeratosis. It has the potential for infiltration and local aggressiveness and has a high rate of recurrence. This neoplasia is predominantly found in males and people of white origin. The mandible is the most frequently involved site, in particular the third molar region, mandibular angle, and ramus. It has a mandible-maxilla ratio of 2:1. Treatment of prepubertal periodontitis. A case report and discussion.

Abstract This paper reports the treatment of prepubertal periodontitis in a 3–year-old girl with Papillon-Lefevre Syndrome. Initially, the patient was found to have a myeloperoxidase deficiency and microbiological tests have identified Bacteroides and Fusobacterium, in 60% and 25%, respectively of the total number of microbial flora cultivated. The initial treatment was extraction of all the primary teeth with grade 3 mobility, scaling, root planing and daily subgingival irrigation with a 0.2% solution of chlorhexidine. Comparison of cerebral cortex activation induced by tactile stimulation between natural teeth and implants

Background The purpose of this study was to assess the cortical-level sensory differences between natural teeth with a periodontal membrane and dental implants. Material and methods We used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to measure brain activity in the cerebral cortex of 12 patients who had both natural teeth and dental implants in the lower molar region. Painless vibratory tactile stimulation was performed on both the natural teeth and the dental implants. [99mTc]Ca-Phytate: Some colloidal characteristics related to the optimal preparation conditions

Abstract Some physico-chemical characteristics of the colloidal radiopharmaceutical [ 99 m Tc]Ca-phytate related to optimal preparation conditions have been studied. (1,2) It is demonstrated that the Ca 2+ -phytate stoichiometry is 6:1. Two different Ca-phytate colloids seem to be formed, mainly depending on the Ca 2+ :phytate molar ratio-one of low mycelar size for a 1:1 Ca 2+ :phytate molar ratio ( cmc ∗ = 5.10 −5 M ) , and another one, with a higher mycelar size for a 6:1 molar ratio (cmc = 8.10 −5 M). This last one it probably better for providing a good quality splenic uptake.

Differences between panoramic and Cone Beam-CT in the surgical evaluation of lower third molars

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to identify the contiguity between the root of the mandibular third molar and the mandibular canal (MC) in panoramic radiographs compared with Cone Beam-CT. Material and methods Panoramic radiographs of 326 third molars and CBCT radiographs of 86 cases indicated for surgery and considered at risk were evaluated.
