Evaluation of micro shear bonding strength of two universal dentin bondings to superficial dentin by self etch and etch-and-rinse strategies
2018
Background Universal bondings can be used either with the etch-and-rinse or self-etch technique. Thus, the present study was done to evaluate the micro-shear bonding strength of two types of Universal Bondings to superficial dentin i.e self-etch and etch and rinse. Material and Methods The samples included 70 tooth blocks taken from 35 extracted sound premolar teeth. The superficial dentin was exposed to grinding by 800 grit silicon carbide Disk. The samples were randomly divided into 5 equal groups (14 samples in each group). Scotch bond universal (3M/USA) and All bond universal (BISCO/USA) were applied by self-etch and etch and rinse technique in group 1-4 and Adper Single bond 2 (3M/USA)…
Analysis of the unpredictable migration of impacted mandibular third molars: A pilot study
2020
Background Eruption of an impacted mandibular third molar (3MM) is often unpredictable. The objective of this study was to establish the radiographic parameters of migration in patients whose 3MMs evolved unpredictably. Material and Methods This was a retrospective observational study. Patients with unusual 3MM migration (away from their physiological eruption position with changes in the longitudinal and horizontal axes) and with at least two panoramic radiographs were included. To evaluate the radiographic parameters, images were superimposed, using mandibular angle and ipsilateral condyle as references. Results Of a total of 2851 patients, four were included in our study. The average age…
Electronic and optical properties of CeO 2 from first principles calculations
2016
International audience; First-principles calculations of the electronic structure of CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were performed to investigate published experimental data obtained by different spectroscopies. The main features of the valence and conduction bands have been analyzed from the total and partial density of states. Several functionals were applied to interpret and quantify the optical properties, including the dielectric function, extinction coefficient and refractive index. It is found that the on-site hybrid functional B3PW91 modelled most suitably the band gap region of CeO2 NPs and consequently gave a more accurate band gap value. It also agreed very well with the experimental v…
Synthesis, structural studies and reactivity of vanadium complexes with tridentate (OSO) ligand
2007
The direct reaction between [VCl(3)(thf)3] or [VO(OEt)3] and 2,2'-thiobis{4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-butyl)phenol (tbopH(2)) leads to the formation of [V(2)(micro-tbop-kappa(3)O,S,O)2Cl(2)(CH(3)CN)(2)] (1).4CH(3)CN or [V(2)(micro-OEt)2(O)2(tbop-kappa(3)O,S,O)2] (2), respectively, in high yield. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by chemical and physical techniques including X-ray crystallography and variable temperature magnetic susceptibility studies (J = -29.1 cm(-1)) for 1. Complexes 1 and 2 were supported on MgCl2 and when activated with aluminium alkyls, were found to effectively polymerize ethene to produce polyethylene with a narrow molecular weight distribution M(w)/M(n) approximately…
Apparent and Real Distribution in GPC (Experiments with PMMA Samples)
1971
Abstract Molecular weight distribution curves obtained by GPC are broadened if concentration and flow rate are fixed in the usual range. Therefore, the apparent nonuniformity U app of the samples is larger than the real non-uniformity U = (Mw/Mn) −1. For a number of fractionated and unfractionated samples of polymethyl methacrylate we determined M n and M w by osmotic, light-scattering, and viscosity measurements. Thus, the real value of U can be compared to U app obtained by GPC at different concentrations and flow rates, υ. The excess nonuniformity U exc is evaluated as function of concentration c, polydispersity, molecular weight, and flow rate. For c = 0 and υ = 0, U exc is not far from…
Effects of preemptive analgesia with intravenous acetaminophen on postoperative pain relief in patients undergoing third molar surgery: a prospective…
2020
Background The efficacy of preemptive analgesia in managing postoperative pain remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of intravenous (IV) acetaminophen administered before or immediately after the surgical extraction of an impacted mandibular third molar. Material and Methods This prospective randomized clinical trial included 120 patients. The patients were assigned to one of three groups: the preoperative-treatment group (pre-group), which received 1000 mg of IV acetaminophen 20 min before surgery; the postoperative-treatment group (post-group), which received 1000 mg of IV acetaminophen after surgery; the no-treatment group (control-group), which did not…
Mercury and selenium in fish and shellfish: Occurrence, bioaccessibility and uptake by Caco-2 cells
2012
This study evaluates Hg and Se concentrations and bioaccessibility (element solubilised after simulated gastrointestinal digestion) in 16 raw seafood species consumed in Spain. The concentrations varied greatly (Hg, 3.8-1621 ng/g wet weight, ww; Se, 84-1817 ng/g ww). Only one sample of swordfish exceeded the Hg limit permitted in Spain (1mg/kg), and for this sample the Hg/Se molar ratio and Se Health Benefit Value food safety criteria also indicated the presence of a risk. Bioaccessibility of Hg (35-106%) and Se (17-125%) was very variable and the Hg/Se molar ratio in the bioaccessible fraction was less than one for all samples. Transport by Caco-2 cells, an intestinal epithelium model, was…

The Fractal Approach to Secondary Mechanisms in SEC
2007
Abstract Size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) is one of the most used experimental techniques to characterize polymers in solution; it has been applied to interpret the elution behaviour of many polymer‐solvent systems in five types of column packings. The experimental data have revealed that the classical universal calibration is not accomplished. Deviations from a unique curve are a consequence of two effects: entropic (exclusion by size) and enthalpic (binary and ternary interactions between solvent, polymer, and gel), which results in secondary mechanisms accompanying the main “ideal” SEC separation mechanism. Therefore, three approaches of building a calibration curve have been compared…
Chain Connectivity and Conformational Variability of Polymers: Clues to an Adequate Thermodynamic Description of Their Solutions, 1
2003
This is the first of two parts investigating the Flory-Huggins interaction parameter, χ, as a function of composition and chain length. Part 1 encompasses experimental and theorical work. The former comprise the synthesis of poly(dimethylsiloxane)s with different molar mass and the measurements of their second second osmotic virial coefficients, A 2 , in solvents of diverse quality as a function of M via light scattering and osmotic pressures. The theorical analysis is performed by subdividing the dilution process into two clearly separable steps. It yields the following expression for χ ο , the χ value in range of pair interaction : χ ο = α - ζ λ. The parameter α measures the effect of con…
