Concave Tetrathiafulvalene-Type Donors as Supramolecular Partners for Fullerenes
2007
The cap fits! A new class of concave π-extended tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives, truxene-TTFs, were prepared and characterized, and their self-assembly with fullerenes was investigated (see picture). Truxene-TTFs represent the first example of TTF-related electron donors that serve, without chemical modification, as monotopic receptors for fullerenes in solution. Syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties of one- and two-dimensional pap-containing copper(II) complexes (pap = pyrazino[2,3- f ][4,7]…
2001
Three polynuclear complexes containing copper(II) and pyrazino[2,3-f][4,7]phenanthroline (pap) as the basic building blocks have been prepared [Cu2(pap)(H2O)2(NO3)3]n[NO3]n1, [Cu4(pap)4Cl7]nCln·15nH2O 2, and [Cu4(pap)4(H2O)4(C4O4)2]n[C4O4]n[NO3]2n·12nH2O 3, and their crystal structures and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibilities determined. Compound 1 is a single stranded zigzag chain where pap and nitrate alternate as bridges between the copper atoms. The copper coordination geometry is to a first approximation distorted square pyramidal, but with an additional semi-coordinated oxygen from non-bridging nitrate groups. The bridging nitrate coordinates in the apical position to both c…
Photoinduced electron transfer in supramolecular complexes of a π-extended viologen with porphyrin monomer and dimer
2012
A π-extended viologen has been synthesized, forming supramolecular complexes with a freebase tetraphenylporphyrin (H2TPP) and the cofacial porphyrin dimer with an anthracene spacer [H4(DPA)] through π–π interaction in benzonitrile (PhCN). Formation of the H2TPP-BHV2+ supramolecular complex was probed by UV-vis and fluorescence spectra. The fluorescence of H2TPP was strongly quenched by electron transfer from the singlet excited state (1H2TPP*) to BHV2+ in the supramolecular complex. The transient absorption spectrum of the charge-separated (CS) state (H2TPP•+ and BHV•+) was successfully detected by the laser flash photolysis measurements of the H2TPP-BHV2+ supramolecular complex in PhCN. Th…
Novel Applications of Dynamic NMR in Organic Chemistry
2003
Abstract This review article is oriented on NMR applications in studying various dynamic processes of organic molecules. The topic as a whole is too large to be covered exhaustively in one article or by one author. Therefore, the literature searches are limited mainly for the years 1999–2001. Further, many interesting branches joined essentially with organic chemistry such as supramolecular and organometallic chemistry are left outside this article because there exist recent reviews on these topics. Similarly, the theoretical background of dynamic NMR is not included. The nature of dynamic NMR itself is changing with the recent progress in computational possibilities to estimate the differe…
Solid-Phase Synthesis of Oligo(p-benzamide) Foldamers
2006
[reaction: see text] A coupling protocol has been developed which allows the synthesis of oligo(p-benzamide)s on solid support. Aromatic carboxylic acids are activated in situ with thionyl chloride and used to acylate secondary aromatic amines. N-p-Methoxy benzyl (PMB) as well as N-hexyl protected monomers were investigated. Heterosequences of both monomers were synthesized. Such nanoscale objects are important building blocks for supramolecular chemistry.
Transient Hydrogels Mediated by Redox-Switchable Supramolecular Polymerization
2017
Spatial and temporal control in multi-stimuli-responsive materials are critical properties to advance and optimize functional soft matter in order to mimic key features of living systems. In this contribution, I will discuss our methodology in developing non-equilibrium states in supramolecular materials. We have expanded our concept of charge regulated s–sheet self-assembly of alternating hydrophilic and hydrophobic amino acids in order to introduce redox-switchable properties. An interplay of pH- and oxidation-stimuli, promoted by the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) thus leads to transient supramolecular polymerizations of methionine containing amphiphiles, with tuneable lifet…
