Foetidissimosides C—F, Novel Glycosides from the Roots of Cucurbita foetidissima.
2004
Two novel echinocystic acid (=(3β,16α)-3,16-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid) glycosides, foetidissimosides C (1), and D (2), along with new cucurbitane glycosides, i.e., foetidissimosides E/F (3/4) as an 1 : 1 mixture of the (24R)/(24S) epimers, were obtained from the roots of Cucurbita foetidissima. Their structures were elucidated by means of a combination of homo- and heteronuclear 2D-NMR techniques (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, ROESY, HSQC, and HMBC), and by FAB-MS. The new compounds were characterized as (3β,16α)-28-{[O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(13)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-6-deoxy-α-L-mannopyranosyl-(12)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl]oxy}-16-hydroxy-28-oxoolean -12-en-3-yl β-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid (1…
Stability of the functional NLO polymers–optically induced depoling of the DMABI molecules in sPMMA matrix
2008
Abstract Low polar order (PO) stability is the major problem of the polymer materials for nonlinear optical (NLO) applications. In this contribution we will show the results of PO stability investigations in the corona poled 3 wt.% DMABI + sPMMA guest–host system. Influence of the poling temperature on the building and stability of the polar order in the system will be presented. To characterize the stability, PO destruction has been caused by high intensity light. Polar order stability characteristics were obtained from the sample second harmonic generation intensity (SHI) time decays. We have found that the decay signal is the best fit to the sum of two exponentials. Several physical mode…
<title>All-optical poling of DMABI molecules in a polymer matrix</title>
2005
Many organic compounds in solid state have nonlinear optical properties due to the orientation of the molecules in a polymer matrix. In this work, all-optical poling and second harmonic generation in a composition consisting of 1 mass% of N,N-dimethylaminobenzylidene 1,3-indandione (DMABI) compound in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix were studied. Thin films were prepared by solvent casting. The 1.064-μm fundamental and 532-nm second harmonic wavelengths of a Nd:YAG laser were used. It is shown that DMABI molecules can be oriented by the method of all- optical poling, and that the process is related to the photoinduced switching between two equally stable states of the molecule.
Hybrid Molecular Materials Based upon the Photochromic Nitroprusside Complex, [Fe(CN)5NO]2-, and Organic π-Electron Donors. Synthesis, Structure, and…
2000
An organic/inorganic hybrid salt is obtained by combination of the photochromic nitroprusside complex with the organic donor TTF. The organic part shows an unprecedented 2D organization formed by an orthogonal arrangement of TTF hexamers and monomers. However, the donor layers are formed by pairs of moderately interacting dimeric (TTF)22+ units surrounded by neutral TTF molecules in such a way that the charge is localized and the compound is a semiconductor. Short contacts between the organic layers and the nitroprusside anions are present that may affect the photophysical properties of the nitroprusside.
Interactions between cationic amylose derivatives and a pulp fiber model surface studied by molecular modelling
2007
This study was performed in order to obtain more information about the interactions between pulp fibers and acetylated cationic starch derivatives on a molecular scale. The adsorption of the polymers on the fiber surface was studied by simulating polymers on a fiber model surface at 300 K. Fractional atomic coordinates of regenerated cellulose II were used to generate a cellulose fiber surface model. Carboxylate groups were added on the cellulose surface to represent the anionic charge of pulp fiber which originates from hemicelluloses. Amylose chains cationized and acetylated atom by atom were chosen to represent four different starch derivatives. Atomic charges used in simulations were ca…
TI: Cyclophosphazenes as polymer modifiers
2003
The utilization of cyclophosphazenes as polymer modifiers is reviewed, with particular concern to their exploitation as versatile chain extenders, possibly for recycle problems, crosslinkers, to enhance mechanical properties of polymeric materials, branchers, to selectively introduce ramifications in linear polymers, and compatibilizers, to favor the formation of blends between originally incompatible organic macromolecules. The great versatility of the synthetic methods put forward for these substrates, together with the ease of controlling their modification, functionalization and reactivity are important parameters for the evaluation of which type of use is more feasible for these trimer…
ChemInform Abstract: Glycopeptide Synthesis Using O-Pentafluorophenyluronium Salts as Novel Condensing Reagents.
2010
Pentafluorophenyluronium salts and related coupling reagents for the solid-phase synthesis of peptides and glycopeptides have been developed and employed in the synthesis of a glycopeptide sequence from the cell adhesion molecule E-CAD 1.
24. Molecular Biology
1987
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the use of neutron scattering in molecular biology. The neutron small-angle camera D11 is discussed. The objective of scattering studies on biological macromolecules is to determine molecular conformations and arrangements, particularly those that may contribute to specific biological functions. The principles of neutron scattering are very similar to those of x rays, but some important differences exist due to the different characteristics of the two radiations. If the scattering specimen is a single macromolecule with no regular separation between neighboring structures, then the scattering is continuous. In a coherent scattering process, the ampli…

A Photoredox-Catalyzed Four Component Reaction for the Atom-Efficient Synthesis of Complex Secondary Amines
2020
The one-pot sulfonylation/aminoalkylation of styrene derivatives furnishing highly substituted gamma-sulfonylamines was accomplished through a photoredox-catalyzed four-component reaction. Apart from one molecule of water and the sodium counterion of the sulfinate, all atoms of the starting materials are transferred to the final product, rendering this process highly atom-efficient. The operationally simple protocol allows for the simultaneous formation of three new single bonds (C–S, C–N, and C–C) and therefore grants rapid access to structurally diverse products. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions in aqueous acetonitrile and shows a broad scope, including natural products and dru…
