Evolution of the electronic monitoring in Poland
2017
Electronic monitoring is a new solution in Polish penal law. It should be noted that the electronic monitoring was initiated in the United States of America by psychologist Ralph Schwitzgebel in 1964. In Poland the system of electronic monitoring appeared in a later period of time. One of the basic legislator’s purposes was to reduce overcrowding in prisons. This institution was used from the date of the entry into force of the Act of 7 September 2007 about serving a sentenceof imprisonment outside prison in the system of electronic monitoring (Dz. U. 2007, No. 191, item. 1366), which was experimental. The next important legislative changes concerning the electronicmonitoring have been intr…
Instrumental Odour Monitoring System Classification Performance Optimization by Analysis of Different Pattern-Recognition and Feature Extraction Tech…
2020
Instrumental odour monitoring systems (IOMS) are intelligent electronic sensing tools for which the primary application is the generation of odour metrics that are indicators of odour as perceived by human observers. The quality of the odour sensor signal, the mathematical treatment of the acquired data, and the validation of the correlation of the odour metric are key topics to control in order to ensure a robust and reliable measurement. The research presents and discusses the use of different pattern recognition and feature extraction techniques in the elaboration and effectiveness of the odour classification monitoring model (OCMM). The effect of the rise, intermediate, and peak period …
Elektrovilcienu radīto cieto daļiņu emisiju gaisā novērtējums Rīgas centrā
2017
Dažāda ķīmiskā un frakcionārā sastāva daļiņas atmosfērā tiek uzskatītas par vienu no bīstamākajiem atmosfēras piesārņojuma veidiem, tās rada pat lielāku apdraudējumu cilvēku veselībai nekā siltumnīcu efekta gāzes, savukārt ietekme izpaužas kā paaugstināts elpošanas un asinsrites sistēmas saslimšanas risks. Viens no būtiskākiem cieto daļiņu piesārņojuma avotiem ir satiksme, un gandrīz visu kopējo sauszemes transporta radīto emisiju daudzumu veido ritošā daļa, bremzes, riteņi un ceļa virsma. Piesārņojuma līmeni ietekmējošie faktori ir vairāki - avota darbības dinamika, tehniskais un ceļa seguma stāvoklis, meteoroloģiskie parametri u.c. Diemžēl elektrovilcienu radītais cieto daļiņu piesārņojum…
Emission factors related to vehicle modal activity
2011
Polluting emissions depend on vehicle characteristics and on traffi c conditions expected after the construction of a road project. Nevertheless, in the assessment of new projects, the task of road designer becomes uncertain when the reduction in polluting emissions has to be evaluated. Moreover, vehicle emissions are highly linked to modal vehicle activity, but current emission rate models do not properly predict on-road vehicle emissions produced by modal traffi c events, as those occurring at intersections. Modal emission models require the analysis of modal activity at a microscale level in order to evaluate emission factors by a single mode (idle, acceleration, deceleration, and cruise…
Removal of bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate from reject water in a nitrogen-removing sequencing batch reactor.
2003
Reject water from sewage sludge processing may contain high concentrations of nutrients and organic pollutants and cause internal pollution load at a sewage treatment plant (STP) if circulated to the headworks of an STP. In the present study removal of nitrogen and bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) from reject water was studied in two sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) with different aerobic/anoxic periods during a 6-h total cycle period. Ammonia-nitrogen (NH(4)-N) was almost totally removed in both reactors, apparently by nitrification throughout the run, while denitrification declined with decreasing SCOD in the influent resulting in an increase in the effluent nitrate-nitrogen (NO(3)-N) …
Removal of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate at a sewage treatment plant
2003
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) concentrations were measured at different stages in a full-scale sewage treatment plant (STP) and mass balances were calculated. The DEHP load to treatment process coming from the sewer system and the internal load comprising returned supernatants and filtrate from sludge treatment and excess secondary sludge were at the same level. The DEHP removal efficiency from the water phase at the STP was on average 94% of sewage DEHP, the main removal process being sorption to primary and secondary sludges. On average 29% of DEHP was calculated to be removed in the biological nitrifying-denitrifying activated sludge process, which was much less than expected from l…
Method optimization to measure polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) concentrations in soils of Bratislava, Slovakia.
2010
We modified an analytical method to determine polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in urban soils of Bratislava (Slovakia). Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) introduced as a clean-up step for soil extracts substantially reduced matrix enhancements when PBDEs were measured with gas chromatography-negative chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (GC-NCI-MS). The resulting method proved to be accurate, precise, and showed low detection limits. The sum of 15 PBDE concentrations in surface horizons of Bratislava soils ranged from 87 to 627 pg g(-1). PBDE concentrations were mostly higher in surface than deeper horizons probably because of atmospheric deposition and lack of substantial vertical…
Evaluation of PAI-1 in endometriosis using a homologous immunocompetent mouse model
2018
To analyze the role of PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor 1) in endometriotic lesion growth, we studied the effect of PAI-1 inhibition by PAI-039 using a homologous mouse model of endometriosis that allows noninvasive monitoring. Endometrial tissue from donor mice was collected, labeled with mCherry adenovirus, and implanted into a subcutaneous pocket on the ventral abdomen of recipient mice. Seven days after transplantation, mice were randomly allocated in two groups and treated once daily for 2 weeks with either vehicle (control group) or PAI-1 inhibitor (PAI-039 group). Endometriotic lesion size generated in recipient mice was monitored by mCherry signal. Animals were euthanized 21 d…
Monitoring heart rate derived indices and DC-potential of the brain over a 12-week endurance training period in recreational runners
2015
Purpose: The present study examined the agreement between HR-derived indices obtained over different recording situations (morning upon waking, in the lab, and during nocturnal measurements). Changes in DC-potential were examined following a high-intensity training (HIT) week by comparing them to a control week. Moreover, the relationship between adaptation to endurance training and the changes of morning HR-derived indices were examined. Methods: Eighteen subjects performed all testing and measurements (10 men, age 36.4 ± 6.1 yr; height 178.3 ± 5.2 cm; weight 77.8 ± 6.2 kg; VO2max 55.7 ± 6.0 ml/kg/min; 8 women, age 34.1 ± 7.5 yr; height 166.8 ± 6.7 cm; weight 61.7 ± 7.5 kg; VO2max 47.1 ± 4…
Generalization Capacity Analysis of Non- Intrusive Load Monitoring using Deep Learning
2020
Appliance Load Monitoring is a technique used to monitor devices existing in homes, industry or naval vessels. Acquisition of device-level data can provide great benefits in many areas such as energy management, demand response, and load forecasting. However, the monitoring process is often provided with a costly installation, as it requires a large number of sensors and a data center. Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) is an alternative and cost-efficient load monitoring solution. Simply put, NILM is the process of obtaining device-level data by analyzing the aggregated data read from the main meter that measures the electricity consumption of the whole house. Before NILM analysis is per…
