Serum sex-hormone binding globulin and cortisol concentrations are associated with overreaching during strenuous military training
2011
The purpose was (a) to study the effect of an 8-week Finnish military basic training period (BT) on physical fitness, body composition, mood state, and serum biochemical parameters among new conscripts; (b) to determine the incidence of overreaching (OR); and (c) to evaluate whether initial levels or training responses differ between OR and noOR subjects. Fifty-seven males (19.7 ± 0.3 years) were evaluated before and during BT. Overreaching subjects had to fulfill 3 of 5 criteria: decreased aerobic physical fitness (VO2max), increased rating of perceived exertion (RPE) in 45-minute submaximal test at 70% of VO2max or sick absence from these tests, increased somatic or emotional symptoms of …
Can Dried Fruits Replace Unhealthy Snacking among Millennials? An Empirical Study on Dried Fruit Consumption in Italy
2023
The consumption of dried fruits in place of unhealthy snacks, which are rich in sugars, salt, and fats, could represent a valid option for reaching the daily intake recommended by the WHO for fruits and for encouraging the adoption of a sustainable diet. However, the consumption of dried fruits is lower than that of unhealthy snacks, especially among young people. Therefore, to foster young people’s intentions to consume dried fruits instead of unhealthy snacks, it is important to identify the factors underlying millennials’ consumption intentions. Using a convenience sample of 174 Italian millennials, this paper aimed to understand the factors influencing young people’s i…
Coastal high-frequency radars in the Mediterranean - Part 2: Applications in support of science priorities and societal needs
2022
The Mediterranean Sea is a prominent climate-change hot spot, with many socioeconomically vital coastal areas being the most vulnerable targets for maritime safety, diverse met-ocean hazards and marine pollution. Providing an unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution at wide coastal areas, high-frequency radars (HFRs) have been steadily gaining recognition as an effective land-based remote sensing technology for continuous monitoring of the surface circulation, increasingly waves and occasionally winds. HFR measurements have boosted the thorough scientific knowledge of coastal processes, also fostering a broad range of applications, which has promoted their integration in coastal ocean …
Partnerzy bez partnerstwa? Realizacja zasady partnerstwa w procesie wdrażania regionalnych programów operacyjnych w Polsce w perspektywie finansowej …
2021
W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę określenia stopnia realizacji zasady partnerstwa w procesie wdrażania regionalnych programów operacyjnych (RPO) w Polsce w obecnej perspektywie finansowej (2014–2020). Przyjęto założenie, że instytucjonalnym sposobem realizacji zasady partnerstwa jest powołanie i funkcjonowanie komitetów monitorujących (KM). Analizą porównawczą objęto praktyczne aspekty działania komitetów w ramach RPO w trzech województwach: lubuskim, świętokrzyskim i kujawsko-pomorskim. Do celów porównawczych wykorzystano następujące parametry instytucjonalno-organizacyjne: liczba posiedzeń komitetów w perspektywie finansowej 2014–2020, liczba przeprowadzonych procedur głosowania obiego…
Risk assessment of exposure to organic chemicals in children and mothers using human biomonitoring
2022
Today, global chemical manufacturing is increasing each year, making environmental pollution and exposure to chemicals a serious public health problem linked to the development of many non-genetic diseases. Approximately, 70 % of chemicals consumed in Europe in 2019 were hazardous for human health. These harmful substances can enter to the food chain and remain in the environment, making humans exposed to them mainly by ingestion, inhalation or dermal exposure. Consequently, exposure to chemicals should be continuously monitored for assuring health protection of citizens by two ways: i) studying their presence in environmental compartments, such as water, food, soil or air, by environmental…
Lifestyle influence on trace element contents in human scalp hair of young residents in different urban contexts. Preliminary results.
2010
A causal relationship between earth material and human health, although not always proven, is highly plausible because many chemical elements in rocks and soils are directly inhaled by respiration or transmitted, via air, water and vegetation, into food chain and then to human body. It is well known that metals and metalloids may result essential to biochemical and physiological functions, but it is also well known that health problems may derive from either dietary deficiencies or excesses. Among the techniques employed to assess the exposure of living organisms to metals and metalloids present in the environment, the human biomonitoring has attracted the attention of investigators over th…
Integration Data Model of the Bathymetric Monitoring System for Shallow Waterbodies Using UAV and USV Platforms
2022
Changes in the seafloor relief are particularly noticeable in shallow waterbodies (at depths up to several metres), where they are of significance for human safety and environmental protection, as well as for which the highest measurement accuracy is required. The aim of this publication is to present the integration data model of the bathymetric monitoring system for shallow waterbodies using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV). As part of this model, three technology components will be created: a hydroacoustic and optoelectronic data integration component proposed by Dąbrowski et al., a radiometric depth determination component based on optoelectronic data u…

Nurses' Perspectives on In-Home Monitoring of Elderlies's Motion Pattern
2017
In-home monitoring systems have been proposed to support aging in place and facilitate home care service. Through a qualitative approach the study explores nurses' existing challenges and perspectives of an in-home monitoring system. Results indicate that nurses base care decisions on multiple, and sometimes, unreliable information sources. However, access to information about elderlies' physical motion could support the care planning process by reducing ambiguity and raising attention. Hence, a simple and affordable system that largely relies on nurses to interpret the sensed data could bring additional value. peerReviewed
Tools to monitor and to evaluate inclusion: an historical review
2021
The management of complexity in the social and educational field recalls the need for the entire teaching staff to make a constant critical reflection to interpret the changing changes that exist within micro and macro socio-cultural contexts, in order to grasp the positivity of creative and innovative stresses, but also the dangerous phenomenon of the expansion of new forms of discomfort and social disintegration, cultural and relational. Inclusive education is a complex activity to be carried out, monitored and promoted because it is characterized by exegetical multidimensionality, plurality of interpretation and difficulties of evaluation. At national and international level, various exp…
