The treatment of solid malignancies includes various target drugs, such as monoclonal antibodies and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which exert their effect alone or in combination with chemotherapy. The main part of these molecules have a target on proteins of EGFR and VEGF pathways. The particular toxicity profile and the financial impact, deriving from the application of these agents in cancer treatment, prompted a lot of researches to define predictive factors of their efficacy. Hematopoietic (Hem) and endothelial (End) lineages derive from a common progenitor cell, the hemangioblast: specifically, the human cord blood (CB) CD34+KDR+ cell fraction comprises primitive Hem and End cells, as well as hemangioblasts. In humans, the potential therapeutic role of Hem and End progenitors in ischemic heart disease is subject to intense investigation. Particularly, the contribution of these cells to angiogenesis and cardiomyogenesis in myocardial ischemia is not well established. Detection of anti-myeloperoxidase antibodies in the serum of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Anti-myeloperoxidase (anti-MPO) antibodies were detected in 34 of 88 (38%) patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus but in only 3 of 55 (5.7%) healthy subjects and in 4 of 20 patients with autoimmune disease. Specificity of anti-MPO antibodies was assessed by MPO inhibition studies. No relationship was found between the occurrence of anti-MPO and anti-thyroperoxidase antibodies. Levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) were found to be higher in anti-MPO antibody-positive (n = 28, 508 +/- 126 ng/ml) than in anti-MPO antibody-negative (n = 58, 438 +/- 140 ng/ml: P < 0.05) patients. Abstract Given graphs G and H, a vertex coloring c : V ( G ) → N is an H-free coloring of G if no color class contains a subgraph isomorphic to H. The H-free chromatic number of G, χ ( H , G ) , is the minimum number of colors in an H-free coloring of G. The H-free chromatic sum of G , Σ ( H , G ) , is the minimum value achieved by summing the vertex colors of each H-free coloring of G. Thiopeptide-Supported Lipid Layers on Solid Substrates

The sequential layer-by-layer formation of peptide-supported bimolecular lipid membranes at solid supports is described. In the first step, thiol-derivatized peptide sequences of 5 and 7 amino acids are assembled on a Au substrate. After activation of their COOH-terminus phospholipid molecules (DMPE) are covalently attached via an amid bond to form a tethered monolayer on the Au electrode. The different preparation steps are analyzed by Fourier transform IR, X-ray reflectometry, and surface plasmon spectroscopy. MM3-ELISA evaluation of coproantigen release and serum antibody production in sheep experimentally infected with Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica.

During an experimental infection of sheep with Fasciola hepatica or F. gigantica, MM3-SERO and MM3-COPRO ELISA tests were applied to compare the kinetics of antibody production and coproantigen release between the 2nd and 32nd week post-infection (wpi). The Kato-Katz technique was used to measure the kinetics of egg shedding by both Fasciola species (eggs per gram of feces, epg). The kinetics of IgG antibodies for all sheep infected with F. hepatica and F. gigantica followed a similar pattern.
