The demixing behavior of 20 representatives of the system oligo(dimethylsiloxane)/oligo(propylene glycol) (ODMS/OPG)1 is investigated at pressures up to 1 500 bar. The degrees of oligomerization range from 2 to 5 for the first and from 1 to 57, 6 for the second component. The experimental results are compared with those for the previously studied system oligoisobutene/oligo(propylene glycol) (OIB/OPG). In both cases the observed upper critical temperatures Tc increase with the number of monomeric units of the less polar component, whereas they run through a minimum when the number of monomeric units of the glycol is raised. For the present system the Tc values are found to be considerably h…

Mixed monolayers of natural and polymeric phospholipids: structural characterization by physical and enzymatic methods

1990

This study has focused on physical characterization and enzymatic hydrolysis of mixed monolayers of a natural phospholipid substrate and a polymerizable phospholipid analogue. Such a mixed system presents the possibility to stabilize model biomembranes, vary the molecular environment within the layer through polymerization and simultaneously examine these influences on monolayer structure. Phospholipase A2 was used here as a sensitive probe of the molecular environment within these mixed, polymerizable monolayers to complement information obtained from isotherm and isobar data. The results clearly show a strong influence of molecular environment on phospholipase A2 activity, even if differe…

Biochemical analysis of class II antigens. Identification of a two- and a three-polypeptide chain complex of I-A locus equivalent molecules in the ra…

1983

The polypeptide chain composition of class II antigens from LEW rat spleen cells was studied utilizing cross-reactive mouse alloantiserum A. TH anti-A.TL (specificity anti-Iak) and the monoclonal antibodies MRC-OX6 and MRC-OX3 for immunoprecipitation. Two-dimensional gel mapping of A. TH anti-A. TL immunoprecipitates revealed that, as in the mouse, two groups of class II antigens exist corresponding to I-A and I-E locus equivalent structures. In the absence of reducing agents three monomeric chains α, 36 kDa (p36); γ, 33 kDa (p33); and β, 23 kDa (p23), were detected for I-A equivalent antigens, whereas I-E equivalent molecules separated into five monomeric chains: α, 37 kDa (p37); γ, 33 kDa…

Raman spectroscopy of acetic acid monomer and dimers isolated in solid argon

2011

Acetic acid (AA) monomer and its dimers were studied by means of Raman spectroscopy combined with the matrix isolation technique. All fundamental bands of CH3COOH monomer were identified, including the CH3 torsional mode. Additionally, three overtone or combination modes were observed as a result of their enhanced intensities by Fermi resonance (FR). Twenty bands of the cyclic dimer (C2h) were identified and assigned, among which appear all intermolecular modes. Bands due to two different higher energy forms of the dimer were also identified. The experimental assignments are supported by ab initio calculations. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Crystal structures, spectral and magnetic properties of cobalt(II) pyridinecarboxylates: A novel polymeric chain in {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)…

2006

Abstract Synthesis and characterization of two new cobalt(II) complexes, namely monomeric [Co(2-MeSnic)2(H2O)4] · 4H2O (2-MeSnic is 2-methylthionicotinate) and polymeric {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)Co(H2O)4(μ-H2O)]{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2 · 6H2O}n (2,6-(MeO)2nic is 2,6-dimethoxynicotinate), are reported. The characterizations were based on elemental analysis, infrared and electronic spectra as well as magnetic measurements. Crystal structures of both complexes have been determined. In both of them – ([Co(2-MeSnic)2(H2O)4] · 4H2O and {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)Co(H2O)4(μ-H2O)]{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2 · 6H2O}n) – the CoII atom is six-coordinated. In the 2nd complex, there are two nonequivalent CoI…

Dalton communication. Crystal structure and oxo-transfer properties of [NH4]2[WVIO2{O2CC(S)Ph2}2]

1994

The complex [NH4]2[WVIO2{O2CC(S)Ph2}2] is the first example of a non-dithiolene tungsten complex capable of oxidising benzoin to benzil in methanol; the reduced complex product formed, presumably a monomeric WVIO species, was reoxidised with nitrate ions, regenerating the starting WVIO2 complex which then acts as a true homogeneous catalyst.

Ras-related GTPase Rhob represses NF-kappaB signaling.

2000

rhoB encoding a Ras-related GTPase is immediate-early inducible by genotoxic treatments, indicating that it is part of the cellular stress response. Here, we investigated the influence of RhoB on signal pathways that are rapidly evoked by genotoxic compounds. The data obtained show that wild-type RhoB neither affects activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases nor AP-1-dependent gene expression. However, RhoB inhibited both basal and genotoxic agent-stimulated activity of the transcription factor nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB). Thus, RhoB attenuated alkylation-induced increase in the DNA binding activity of NF-kappaB and abrogated NF-kappaB-driven gene expression. Furthermore, RhoB i…

Some observations on the fluorometric determination of metallic elements in micellar media

1989

Abstract Experimental evidence is given allowing us to interpret why the detection limits obtained in micellar media are higher than those expected according to fluorescence enhancements for the niobium-lumogallion-tartrate system in the presence of different nonionic surfactants. The residual fluorescence of the surfactant solution and the competitive interaction with micelles between complexes and free ligands were studied. Near the critical micelle concentration of surfactants, remarkable changes in the emission spectra were observed in the case of both complex and free ligand solutions, which indicate the existence of interactions between the chemical system and surfactant monomers and …

Imidazoporphyrins as supramolecular tectons: synthesis and self-assembly of zinc 2-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]porphyrinate

2019

International audience; 5,10,15,20-Tetramesityl-2-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]porphyrin (PyPor) bearing a pyridine donor site connected to the tetrapyrrolic macrocycle by a rigid imidazole linker was prepared in high yield by the condensation of the corresponding 2,3-dioxochlorin and 4-formylpyridine in the presence of ammonium acetate. After the insertion of a metal ion capable of metal–ligand axial coordination, namely Zn(II), this compound afforded self-complementary porphyrin PyPorZn which was suitable for self-assembly. In the crystals, this complex exists as a zigzag coordination polymer formed through the axial coordination of the pyridine nitrogen atom to the zinc ion of the neighb…

Stamping of monomeric SAMs as a route to structured crystallization templates: patterned titania films.

2000

Gold-coated glass slides have be patterned by using self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of alkane thiols. Through the use of a special thiol terminated with a styrene monomer, microstructures of 5 to 10 microm width and 70 A height have been formed on the surface by graft polymerization of styrene. These patterned gold slides have then been used to template the precipitation of thin titania films from ethanolic solutions of titanium isopropoxide to create microstructured architectures in the film. Plasmon resonance spectra have established the presence of different steps in the process and have been used to follow the kinetics of the precipitation of titania on the surface. The structured TiO2 …
