The Complex Interaction Between the Major Sleep Symptoms, the Severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Sleep Quality
2021
Introduction: Little information exists in the general population whether clinical presentation phenotypes of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) differ in terms of sleep quality and comorbidities.Aim: The purpose of our study was to assess possible differences between symptomatic and asymptomatic OSA patients concerning syndrome's severity, patients' sleep quality, and comorbidities.Subjects and methods: First, in a nationwide, stratified, epidemiological survey, 4,118 Cypriot adult participants were interviewed about sleep habits and complaints. In the second stage of the survey, 264 randomly selected adults underwent a type III sleep study for possible OSA. Additionally, they completed the Gre…

Menstrual problems and lifestyle among Spanish university women
2020
Menstrual problems affect many young women worldwide, conditioning both their academic performance and quality of life. This study sought to analyse the prevalence of menstrual problems and their possible relationship with lifestyle among Spanish university women, as part of a research project (UniHcos Project) involving a cohort of 11 Spanish universities with 7208 university students. A descriptive analysis was performed using the bivariate chi-square test and the Student&rsquo
2020
The SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic is evolving very quickly and means a special risk for both immunosuppressed and comorbid patients. Knowledge about this growing infection is also increasing although many uncertainties remain, especially in the kidney transplant population. This manuscript presents a proposal for action with general and specific recommendations to protect and prevent infection in this vulnerable population such as kidney transplant recipients. Resumen: La pandemia por coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) está evolucionando de manera muy rápida y representa un riesgo especial en pacientes inmunodeprimidos y con comorbilidades añadidas. El conocimiento sobre esta in…
Epidemiological and molecular associations between central nervous system disorders and cancer
2021
The study of comorbidity is becoming a key topic in biomedical research, which is especially relevant in the context of population ageing. Comorbidity has profound implications for individuals, practitioners, and health care systems. As a consequence, increasing efforts are being made by the scientific community to characterize better how disorders relate to each other and to identify the factors producing these associations. Cancer and central nervous system (CNS) disorders are among the top leading causes of death and disease burden worldwide. In recent decades direct and inverse patterns of association between CNS disorders and cancer have been reported. However, observational studies ha…
Abemaciclib-associated Diarrhea: An Exploratory Analysis of Real-life Data
2023
Background/Aim: Abemaciclib is a cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor approved in combination with endocrine therapy for treating hormone receptor-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative early and advanced breast cancer patients. The safety profile of abemaciclib is characterized by frequent gastrointestinal toxicity, especially diarrhea. Therefore, we performed an exploratory analysis of clinical factors that may be potentially associated with diarrhea in patients treated with abemaciclib plus endocrine therapy. Patients and Methods: Factors potentially predisposing to diarrhea were selected, such as age ≥70 years, concomitant medications and diseases, diet, and use…

This is a post-print version of the paper. To cite this article: Ballester-Arnal, R., Castro-Calvo, J., Giménez-García, C., Gil-Juliá, B. & Gil-Llario, M.D (2020). Psychiatric comorbidity in Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD). Addictive Behaviors, 107, 106384. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.addbeh.2020.106384 Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) is characterized by a persistent failure to control intense and recurrent sexual impulses, urges, and/or thoughts, resulting in repetitive sexual behavior that causes a marked impairment in important areas of functioning. Data collected from clinical populations suggest that CSBD frequently co-occurs with other Axis I and II psychiatric dis…
Developmental outcomes in adolescence of children with autism spectrum disorder without intellectual disability: A systematic review of prospective s…
2021
Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) without intellectual disability (ID) represent approximately two-thirds of the ASD population. Here we focused on prospective research assessing different areas of functioning of children with ASD, without ID, until adolescence. Based on a pre-registered protocol (PROSPERO CRD42020189029), a systematic review of prospective studies (published between 01.01.2010 and 01.01.2020) was conducted. Twenty-eight studies met eligibility criteria. Findings indicated that ASD diagnosis and the Intelligence Quotient were highly stable over time across studies. Executive Functioning, Theory of Mind and Central Coherence processes tended to improve, althoug…
