Evaluation of advanced silica packings for the separation of biopolymers by high-perforamnce liquid chromatography
1987
Non-porous monodisperse 1.5-μm silicas were allowed to react with (A) and (B) N-acetylaminopropyltriethoxysilane to generate bonded phases useful in high-performance hydrophobic-interaction chromatography (HIC). Differences in the selectivity were observed between he amide and the ether phase. Peak capacities between 10 and 30 were achieved for several proteins with the amide and ether phase packed into columns of 36 × 8 mm I.D. and elution of the proteins under chromatographic conditions in which the gradient volume, VG, was held constant by varying the gradient time between 20 and 2.5 min and the flow-rate between 0.5 and 4.0 ml/min. The S values derived from the dependences of log k′ on …

On the performance of the Spanish teachers that accompanied the so called «Children of Morelia» expedition, the specialists that have dealt with the topic so far have made a severe negative judgment. In this work we bring to light, for the first time and through unpublished documentation, the repeated initiatives that these teachers took to try to complete their guardian mission, which could not be carried out completely due to the position of the Mexican authorities.
(Re)negotiating Freedom of Expression in the Spanish Transition: The Case of El Papus (1973-1987)
2020
Juxtaposing documents from judicial and administrative archives with material published in the satirical magazine El Papus (1973-1987), this essay examines the confrontation between national-Catholic discourse and new modes of visual and textual expression in late Francoism and the early years of the democratic transition in Spain. The present study represents a survey of some 44 state-produced documents and 124 journalistic pieces, applying a two-pronged methodology rooted in discourse analysis with a special focus on the content and themes deemed unfit for publication in the pages of El Papus. The results will show that a loosening of erotic and sexual mores, particularly those related to…
Embracing water, healing pine : touch-walking and transcorporeal worldings
2023
This article considers touch as an embodied worlding practice in the context of humans intentionally seeking tactile trans-species contact. In particular, it examines three co-researchers’ tactile relations with tree(s) and water which were explored by “touch-walking,” an immersive method developed for this study. The method opened possibilities for examining transcorporeal sensory matterings and affective flows between the researcher’s body, co-researchers’ bodies and more-than-human bodies. This experimental micro-research brings knowledge about how people form deeply meaningful relationships with natural bodies, making worlds by cherishing tactile contact with them. Theoretically, we “po…
Safety and efficacy of a fixed-dose combination regimen of grazoprevir, ruzasvir, and uprifosbuvir with or without ribavirin in participants with and…
2017
Background There is a need for hepatitis C virus (HCV) therapies with excellent efficacy across genotypes and in diverse populations. Part A of the C-CREST-1 and C-CREST-2 trials led to the selection of a three-drug regimen of grazoprevir (MK-5172; an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor; 100 mg/day) plus ruzasvir (MK-8408; an NS5A inhibitor; 60 mg/day) plus uprifosbuvir (MK-3682; an HCV NS5B polymerase inhibitor; 450 mg/day). Part B of the studies tested this combination as a single formulation in different treatment durations in a broader population. Methods Part B of these randomised, phase 2, open-label clinical trials enrolled individuals from 15 countries who were chronically infected with H…

Alterations of DNA Repair in Melanoma Cell Lines Resistant to Cisplatin, Fotemustine, or Etoposide
2000
Resistance to chemotherapy is a common phenomenon in malignant melanoma. In order to assess the role of altered DNA repair in chemoresistant melanoma, we investigated different DNA repair pathways in one parental human melanoma line (MeWo) and in sublines of MeWo selected in vitro for drug resistance against four commonly used drugs (cisplatin, fotemustine, etoposide, and vindesine). Host cell reactivation assays with the plasmid pRSVcat were used to assess processing of different DNA lesions. With ultraviolet-irradiated plasmids, no significant differences were found, indicating a normal (nucleotide excision) repair of DNA photoproducts. With singlet oxygen-treated plasmid, the fotemustine…
