The bryophyte flora of Lågskär - An isolated island in the Baltic Sea
2014
This study reports the bryophyte flora of Lågskär, an isolated lighthouse island in the Åland province of Finland. A total of 81 bryophyte species were found on Lågskär, including 74 moss species and seven liverwort species. Syntrichia ruraliformis is reported for the first time in Finland, whereas Ceratodon conicus was believed to be extinct in Finland and Brachythecium turgidum was considered regionally extinct from southern Finland. peerReviewed

Orthotrichum pilosissimum (Orthotrichaceae), a new moss from arid areas of Nevada with unique axillary hairs
2011
Abstract Orthotrichum pilosissimum is described from herbarium material and recently collected specimens in the state of Nevada. Its specific epithet refers to the diagnostic hyper-developed axillary hairs, which are frequently longer than 1 mm, multiseriate and branched, covering most of the stems surface and sometimes protruding from the foliose shoots. These hairs are not only unique in the genus but also among mosses, providing a reliable diagnostic character for the new taxon. Additional gametophytic and sporophytic characters that contribute to its taxonomic delimitation are also given.
Synthesis, infrared and121Sb Mssbauer spectra of some Antimony(III) Thiocyanate Complexes
1989
The first isolation of an antimony(III) thiocyanate complex salt, [(CH3)4N][Sb(CNS)4] (I), and of two adducts of the Sb(CNS)3 formal unit with potentially tridentate nitrogen donors, Sb(CNS)3tpta (II) and [Sb(CNS)3]3(dqp)2 (III), is described. In these derivatives, infrared and Mossbauer spectral data are essentially indicating the predominant presence of N-bonded thiocyanate. For complex I, the occurrence also of groups bridging through the nitrogen atom is advanced. Preparation and XAFS studies of organotin(IV) complexes with adenosine and related compounds and calf thymus DNA
2007
Complexes of adenosine and related compounds (adenosine-5’-monophosphate, adenosine-5’-triphosphate and pyridoxal-5-phosphate) with Bu2SnO and/or BuSnCl2 were prepared in the solid state. The compositions of the complexes were determined by standard analytical methods. It was found that the complexes contain the organotin(IV) moiety and the ligand in a ratio of 1:1. The FT-IR spectra demonstrated that Bu2SnO reacts with the D-ribose moiety of the ligands, while Bu2SnCl2 is coordinated to the deprotonated phosphate group. The basic part of the ligands does not participate directly in complex formation. Comparison of the experimental Mossbauer Δ (quadrupole splitting) values with those calcul…
Arbuscular mycorhizal proteomes: what news at the nearby and distant horizon?
2007
International audience; Proteomics has soon emerged as a powerful tool to point out protein modifications in roots interacting with arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi. Depending on the developmental mycorrhizal stage and on the available amount of mycorrhizal material, untargeted and/or sub-cellular proteomic approaches were applied to reveal and identify proteins whose accumulation was modified during the AM colonisation of Medicago truncatula roots. For the early stage of symbiosis, the protein patterns obtained from noninoculated roots and roots synchronized for appressorium formation in wild-type (Jemalong J5), penetration-defective (TRV25, dmi3) and autoregulation-defective (TR122, sunn)…
Changes in polypeptide profiles of two pea genotypes inoculated with the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus mosseae
1994
The symbiotic interaction between pea roots ('Pisum sativum' L.) and the endomycorrhizal fungus 'Glomus mosseae' should lead to specific gene expression of both symbionts. In order to detect symbiosis-related proteins (endomycorrhizins), we used two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) after phenolic extraction of total soluble proteins. Furthermore, to better characterize the molecular changes after fungal infection, two pea genotypes available in our laboratory were used: cv. Frisson (myc⁺) and an isogenic mycorrhiza-resistant mutant (myc⁻). The latter prevents intraradical fungal development. Several differences were observed in polypeptide patterns of silver-stained …

Expression of Sorghum bicolor ammonium transporters upon colonization with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
2012
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are important plant symbionts, trading mineral nutrients beyond the reach of roots, in particular ammonium, in exchange to their host’s photosynthetic products. Sorghum bicolor is one of the world's leading cereal crops, providing food, fibre and fuel across a range of environments and production systems. It has a particular ability to be productive even under strongly adverse conditions, tolerating much more severe drought than most other grain crops. As its genome has recently been sequenced, we have characterized all eight members of the ammonium transporter (AMT) family and studied their expression in different tissues of field-grown plants. While most…
The use of mosses in biomonitoring of selected areas In Poland and Spitsbergen in the years From 1975 to 2014
2015
