Effect of Cetrorelix on sperm morphology during migration through the epididymis in the cynomolgus macaque (Macaca fascicularis)

2000

The importance of the cynomolgus monkey as a model for human reproductive medicine prompted this examination of epididymal sperm morphology. Computer-aided sperm morphological analysis was used for the first time to provide morphometric data on sperm heads as they traversed the epididymal duct of Macaca fascicularis. The duct was divided into six regions, starting close to the testis (proximal) and ending close to the vas deferens (distal). To determine the androgen-dependence of the changes, one group of animals received a GnRH-antagonist (Cetrorelix, Asta Medica, Frankfurt, Germany) to induce testicular regression and lower epididymal androgens, while a control group received only vehicle…

GLP-2 receptor expression in excitatory and inhibitory enteric neurons and its role in mouse duodenum contractility.

2011

Background. Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2), a nutrient-responsive hormone, exerts various actions in the gastrointestinal tract that are mediated by a G-protein coupled receptor called GLP-2R. A little information is available on GLP-2R expression in enteric neurons and nothing on the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC). Methods. We investigated presence and distribution of the GLP-2R in the mouse duodenum by immunohistochemistry and the potential motor effects of GLP-2 on the spontaneous and neurally evoked mechanical activity. Key Results. The GLP-2R was expressed by the myenteric and submucosal neurons. Labelling was also present in nerve varicosities within the circular muscular layer an…

New actors in the gut :emerging players in motility and in inflammatory bowel diseae

2017

Gastrointestinal motility is an integrated process generated and modulated by local and circulating hormones and neurotransmitters which act and interact directly and indirectly on muscle cells. A plethora of regulators have been identified, but this field is continuously in expansion. Among the new actors in gut accumulating evidence strongly supports a role of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the digestive tract cooperating with other major mediators for maintaining gastrointestinal homeostasis. Transcripts encoding RAS components were detected in gastrointestinal tract and the involvement of RAS in gut motility modulation is increasingly emerging. The available literature demonstrated t…
