Effects of Different Glucose Concentrations on Spinal Anaesthesia with Bupivacaine and Tetracaine

The effects of 5% and 8% glucose in 0.5% tetracaine or bupivacaine on the anaesthetic spread were investigated in 80 urological patients requiring spinal anaesthesia for trans-urethral resection of the prostate. The local anaesthetic solutions were randomly administered, the patients being divided into four groups of 20, and the anaesthetic profile was then evaluated in a double-blind fashion by an independent observer. Maximum cephalad spread of analgesia was significantly greater with tetracaine in 8% glucose compared to the other three groups (tetracaine/5% glucose, bupivacaine/5 or 8% glucose) (P less than 0.05). AbstractChemical stimulation of the dopaminergic nigro-striatal system induces circling behaviour also in animals in which an extensive telencephalic lesion has been performed. In order to avoid the effects linked to chemical stimulation, we have studied the circling behaviour means of electrical stimulation of the caudate nucleus in chronic cats with cortical lesions. The role of the motor cortex on the circling behaviour is emphasized.

There is limited evidence about gait stability and its alteration by concurrent motor and cognitive tasks in children with cerebral palsy (CP). We examined gait stability and how it is altered by constrained cognitive or motor task in CP and their typically developed (TD) controls. Hyaluronic Acid–Silica Nanohybrid Gels

Excessive water sorption and low mechanical properties are a severe drawback in some biomedical applications of hyaluronic acid (HA). A way to improve these properties is here explored through the novel concept of nanohybrid hydrogels consisting of a HA matrix including different amounts of silica-derived species. This inorganic filler phase controls the mechanical and swelling properties of HA cross-linked matrices. Below a 2 wt % of silica in the systems, nanoparticle aggregates of tens of nanometers and silica oligomers are distributed more or less homogeneously throughout the organic matrix, without percolating.
