Mechatronic Contouring System for Unconventional Sheet Metal Forming Processes
2006
This paperwork was developed in order to present the work concerning the use of mechatronic approach in the study of motion control systems for metal forming processes. The paper presents the use of low cost motion control systems, based upon induction motors, as driving systems in unconventional sheet metal forming processes. The main goal of this work was to implement a 2D contouring system for driving the active plate. The model of the system, simulations and some experimental work will be presented.
Speed and rotor flux estimation of induction motors via on-line adjusted extended kalman filter
2006
This paper deals with the estimation of speed and rotor flux of induction motors via Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) with on-line adjusting of the system noise covariance matrix. The predictor of EKF consists of a discrete time model obtained by means of a second order discretization of the original nonlinear model of the induction motor. In order to obtain accurate estimation of the above mentioned variables, the load torque is included in the state variables and then estimated. Three different system noise models are also illustrated and compared each other by simulations carried out in Matlab/Simulink environment. For one of these models, EKF is adjusted on-line by means of an additional PI…
Applications of the Fault Decoupling Device to Improve the Operation of LV Distribution Networks
2008
The aim of this paper is to present the operating principle of a new resonant device, called the fault decoupling device (FDD), able to improve power quality in electrical distribution systems. In low-voltage networks, this device can be employed in order to mitigate voltage dips due to faults or large induction motor startup. Moreover, in the presence of distributed-generation (DG) units, the FDD allows one to obtain various benefits such as a reduction of the fault current in each node of the network and an increase in the voltage at the DG unit node. In order to show the performances of the FDD, analytical studies and computer simulations were carried out which took into account various …
Speed Control of a two-Degrees of Freedom Induction Motor with Rotor Helical Motion for Industrial Applications
2014
This paper describes the realization of a two-degrees of freedom induction motor prototype with rotor helical motion, suitable for several industrial applications as grinders, augers, drilling and milling spindles, robotic arms and drives for medical tools and prostheses. This prototype was realized by combining a three-phase tubular linear induction motor (TLIM) with the stator of a three-phase rotary induction motor, resulting in a THMIM (Tubular Helical Motion Induction Motor). Moreover, a possible simple electrical drive, capable to control the helical motion, is proposed, simulated and analyzed. In particular, the mathematical model of the THMIM has been initially developed and, then, …
Sensorless low Range Speed Estimation and Parameter Identification of Induction Motor Drives Devoted to Lifts Automatic Rescue Devices
2010
In this paper a sensorless rotor speed estimation and parameter identification algorithm is presented. The algorithm is designed specifically for induction motor (IM) drives devoted to automatic rescue devices (ARD) used in lifts and hoist applications. Its peculiarity is that it is based on the sinusoidal steady state mathematical model of the IM and, therefore, can be implemented on a low cost micro-controller in a simple way, however without lacking in terms of dynamic performance. It is also capable of self tuning so that no information is required about the specific IM used in the ARD drive. Finally the algorithm allows also an appreciable energy saving of the ARD when compared to olde…
PVDF based vibration measurements and their correlation with torque estimation in a FOC induction motor drive
2008
This paper presents a study concerning the vibrations generated by an induction motor drive controlled by field oriented control algorithm (FOC). The aim of the study is to identify suitable measurement points and analysis techniques in order to achieve information about vibration generated by an electric drive. Vibrations take origin both by the torque generated by the motor and the motor supply through an inverter, then they are transmitted to neighbouring structures. Torque is estimated on the basis of the estimated flux linkage; vibrations have been both measured and analysed numerically by FEM at two points of the cradle. The numerical and experimental analysis have been carried out fo…
A study on the influence of permanent magnet dimensions and stator core structures on the torque of the disc-type brushless DC motor
2000
This paper presents a three-dimensional analysis of the magnetic field distribution for a disc-type, double-sided, permanent magnet, brushless dc motor with a toroidal stator core. Calculations are carried out using the OPERA (3D) package with the TOSCA module. The electromagnetic torque is determined from the Maxwell stress tensor. For comparison, various permanent magnet dimensions and slotless vs. quasi-slotted stator cores are analysed, with an iron powder-resin composite effectively used to imitate the slotted core. The torque ripple is shown to be effectively reduced by appropriate permanent magnet dimensions. The simulation results are in good agreement with experimental data obtaine…
Suitability of blends from virgin and reprocessed polylactide: performance and energy valorization kinetics
2018
[EN] A blending strategy of virgin and reprocessed polylactide may be postulated as an alternative to reduce the material cost at industrial level, and as a valorisation route to plastic waste management of production scraps. The performance of blends prepared from virgin polylactide and polylactide mechanically reprocessed up to two cycles (PLA-V/R) was assessed in terms of thermo-oxidative stability, morphology, viscoelasticity and thermal kinetics for energetic valorisation. PLA-V/R blends showed appropriate thermo-oxidative stability. The amorphous nature of polylactide was preserved after blending. The viscoelastic properties showed an increment of the mechanical blend effectiveness, w…

Parameter identification of induction motor model using genetic algorithms
1998
The paper deals with methods of identification of the parameters of an induction motor model using genetic algorithms. It is supposed that the inverter supplying the motor is directly accessible for control of the conduction sequences of its power switches. This makes it possible to carry out a test consisting of a transient from standstill to steady-state operation at a given frequency and successive free motion to standstill. During this test, data are acquired referring to stator voltages, and currents and speed. Then, a genetic algorithm is employed with the aim of determining the mechanical and electrical parameters of the model, so as to reproduce the input-output behaviour of a real …
