Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and oxytocin-expression in the adult rat and mouse cerebellum.

2015

Abstract Background: Many studies are in the literature on the ANP and oxytocin-presence in the brain, but very few studies with controversial results are reported on the presence of these peptides in the cerebellum. This immunohistochemical study investigates on the ANP and oxytocin-presence in the cerebellum of the adult rat and mouse rodents. Results: This study, firstly, evidences the ANP- immunopositivity in cerebellar cortex of both rat and mouse rodents. In rat the molecular layer presents some few immunopositive fibers, but no neuron resulted immunopositive; the granular and Purkinje cells are immunopositive. In mouse the cerebellar cortex ANP-immunopositivity is present in all laye…

A New Preclinical Decision Support System Based on PET Radiomics: A Preliminary Study on the Evaluation of an Innovative 64Cu-Labeled Chelator in Mou…

2022

The 64Cu-labeled chelator was analyzed in vivo by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to evaluate its biodistribution in a murine model at different acquisition times. For this purpose, nine 6-week-old female Balb/C nude strain mice underwent micro-PET imaging at three different time points after 64Cu-labeled chelator injection. Specifically, the mice were divided into group 1 (acquisition 1 h after [64Cu] chelator administration, n = 3 mice), group 2 (acquisition 4 h after [64Cu]chelator administration, n = 3 mice), and group 3 (acquisition 24 h after [64Cu] chelator administration, n = 3 mice). Successively, all PET studies were segmented by means of registration with a standard te…

Since the second half of the twentieth century, Italy has developed a significant tradition of creators of Mickey Mouse stories. These stories have spread across Europe in translation. The case of the Almanacco Topolino stories - translated into Fre…

UNRAVELLING THE ROLES OF THE NUCLEAR PROTEIN 1 DURING ER-STRESS INDUCTION

2020

Background: NUPR1 was described as a transcriptional factor involved in the regulation of various cellular stress-response genes, playing a crucial role in the condition of the endoplasmic-reticulum (ER) stress, thus emerging as a common molecular factor of different pathologies, obesity, hepatic steatosis, and cancer. In the present work we aim to explore how NUPR1 interacts with some pivotal genes that are the major modulators of the ER stress and metabolic cell functions. In particular we investigated the biochemical and molecular effects arising from the loss of NUPR1 in ER stress physiological conditions. Methods: We used prolonged high fat diet (HFD) feeding to induce ER stress physio…

Estrogen increases hepatic lipase levels in inbred strains of mice: A possible mechanism for estrogen-dependent lowering of high density lipoprotein

2001

We have shown mouse to be an useful animal model for studies on the estrogen-mediated synthesis and secretion of lipoproteins since, unlike in rats, low density lipoprotein receptors are not upregulated in mice [3]. This results into the elevation of plasma levels of apolipoprotein (apo) B and apoE, and lowering of apoA-I-containing particles. The mechanisms of apoB and apoE elevation by estrogen have been elucidated [6], but the mechanism of lowering of plasma levels of HDL is still not known. Among other factors, apoA-I, cholesterol ester transfer protein (CEPT), scavenger receptor B1 (SR-B1), and hepatic lipase are potential candidates that modulate plasma levels of HDL. Since estrogen t…

A systems biology perspective on cholangiocellular carcinoma development: focus on MAPK-signaling and the extracellular environment.

2008

Background/Aims Multiple genes have been implicated in cholangiocellular carcinoma (CCC) development. However, the overall neoplastic risk is likely associated with a much lower number of critical physiological pathways. Methods To investigate this hypothesis, we extracted all published genetic associations for the development of CCC from PubMed (genetic association studies, but also studies associating genes and CCC in general, i.e. functional studies in cell lines, genetic studies in humans, knockout mice etc.) and integrated CCC microarray data. Results We demonstrated the MAPK pathway was consistently enriched in CCC. Comparing our data to genetic associations in HCC often successfully …

Senescence and longevity : from physiological mechanisms to evolutionary processes : studies in birds and mammals

2012

There is an incredible diversity of lifespan in the animal kingdom ranging from a few days for small gastrotrichs worms to several hundred of years for some bivalves or tortoises. This amazing diversity has long questioned biology researchers. The growing interest in the phenomenon of aging, mainly due to the increase in life expectancy in humans, has questioned researchers on processes that determine patterns of longevity and ageing. On the one hand, biomedical and biogerontological studies helped describe numerous cellular and physiological mechanisms related to aging. Among these mechanisms, oxidative stress has been identified as playing a major role, through life-time accumulation of d…

Impact of obesity on the oro-sensory detection of dietary lipids in mice and humans

2013

Gustation is an essential parameter in the oro-sensory detection of dietary lipids. In mice and most likely in humans, the binding of long-chain fatty acids to the CD36 receptor plays a major role in this oral fat detection. Gustation is involved in the food choice (fat sensitivity) as well as in the preparation of the body to the fat inflow. This oral lipid sensing is highly regulated. As obesity seems to be responsible for an alteration of the basic tastes detection, the aim of this thesis was to investigate whether obesity can impair the oral lipid detection in both mice and humans. In humans, our data show that there is an alteration of the oral fat detection in some obese subjects who …
