Revisiting the cross‐sectional and prospective association of physical activity with body composition and physical fitness in preschoolers: A composi…
2022
Background Information is limited for the benefits of physical activity (PA) in preschoolers. Previous research using accelerometer-assessed PA may be affected for multicollinearity issues. Objectives This study investigated the cross-sectional and prospective associations of sedentary behaviour (SB) and PA with body composition and physical fitness using compositional data analysis. Methods Baseline PA and SB were collected in 4-year-old (n = 315) using wrist-worn GT3X+ during seven 24 h-periods. Body composition (air-displacement plethysmography) and physical fitness (PREFIT test battery) were assessed at baseline and at the 12-month follow-up. Results Increasing vigorous PA at expenses o…
Huhut, unet, sodomiitit, moraalinvartijat, elämäkerrat, puhuttelusanat ja ammattinimikkeet
2022
Kirja Huhut, unet, sodomiitit, moraalinvartijat, elämäkerrat, puhuttelusanat ja ammattinimikkeet koostuu teoreettisista artikkeleista ja tutkielmista, joiden käsittelemät aikakaudet ulottuvat keskiajalta aina itsenäisyyden murrosvaiheisiin. Teemaa lähestytään yksilön ja yhteiskunnan välisten suhteiden ilmentymänä. Artlkkelit edustavat kunkin kirjoittajan tutkimussuuntausta. Näin ollen kyseessä on teos, jossa esitetään myös uusimman historiantutkimuksen tuloksia. Kirjoittajat ovat historiantutkijoita ja Jyväskylän maakunta-arkiston henkilökuntaa.
Statistical inference for eye movement sequences using spatial and spatio-temporal point processes
2017
Eye tracking is a widely used method for recording eye movements, which are important indicators of ongoing cognitive processes during the viewing of a target stimulus. Despite the variety of applications, the analyses of eye movement data have been lacking of methods that could take both the spatial and temporal information into account. So far, most of the analyses are based on strongly aggregated measures, because eye movement data are considered to be complex due to their richness and large variation between and within the individuals. Therefore, the eye movement methodology needs new statistical tools in order to take full advantage of the data. This dissertation is among the first stud…
Fragua Social.
Social network site communities as agents and spaces of pursuing influence in society : forms, stages and attributes of building communicative power
2018
Before the emergence and high popularity of social media, individuals or even collectives of individual citizens rarely had strong voice in public discourse. Social media, and its social network sites (SNS), have allowed individual people to form communities to create discourse around issues they find meaningful, and even unite their power to fight for a common cause and potentially influence changes in society. The objectives of the thesis were to investigate what types of ‘societal influence (SI) oriented SNS communities’ the Internet and social media arena consists of and how their potential communicative power is formed, even to the extent that they can challenge news media and business…

L'approche cartographique de la représentation du mouvement spatial. L'exemple des flux commerciaux maritimes euro- méditerranéens
2016
Mapping spatial movement implies to rethink cartographic modelling in addition to digital data issues. This opens research pathways about the representation of spatio-temporal interactions and interrelations. Existing approaches focus either on the map background itself (data analysis issues, to answer thematic questions) or on its “shape”, i.e. on the pure graphical aspects of visualization (edge bundling) and on the semiology rules behind it. This paper aims to further examine the role of the map background in the cartography of maritime flows. This essentially geographic approach differs from existing ones in that it approximates the representation of movement by modelling the mesh of th…
Spatio-temporal Dynamical Analysis of Brain Activity during Mental Fatigue Process
2021
Mental fatigue is a common phenomenon with implicit and multidimensional properties. It brings dynamic changes of functional brain networks. However, the challenging problem of false positives appears when the connectivity is estimated by Electroencephalography (EEG). In this paper, we propose a novel framework based on spatial clustering to explore the sources of mental fatigue and functional activity changes caused by them. To suppress the false positive observations, spatial clustering is implemented in brain networks. The nodes extracted by spatial clustering are registered back to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) source space to determined the sources of mental fatigue. The…
Relationships Between Spectral Flux, Perceived Rhythmic Strength, and the Propensity to Move
2013
The tendency to move to music seems to be built into human nature. Previous studies have shown a relationship between movement and the degree of spectral flux in music, particularly in the lower sub-bands. In this study, listeners’ perceptions of a range of frequency-restricted musical stimuli were investigated in order to find relationships between perceived musical aspects (rhythm, melody, and fluctuation) and the spectral flux in three different frequency bands. Additionally, the relationship between the perception of features in specific frequency bands and participants’ desire to move was studied. Participants were presented with clips of frequency-restricted musical stimuli and answer…
Prevention of injuries among youth team sports : the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor
2017
Good movement control is essential in team sports that require fast-paced running, pivoting, jumping and landing. Alterations in dynamic neuromuscular control may cause significant stress on the musculoskeletal system, and increase the risk of both acute and overuse injuries. The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the effectiveness of interventions to prevent sports injuries, the incidence and severity of overuse injuries, and the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor for future injuries in young team sports athletes. The study methods included a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, a retrospective epidemiological investi…
