Human Epidermal Langerhans Cells Replenish Skin Xenografts and Are Depleted by Alloreactive T Cells In Vivo

Abstract Epidermal Langerhans cells (LC) are potent APCs surveying the skin. They are crucial regulators of T cell activation in the context of inflammatory skin disease and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). In contrast to other dendritic cell subtypes, murine LC are able to reconstitute after local depletion without the need of peripheral blood-derived precursors. In this study, we introduce an experimental model of human skin grafted to NOD-SCID IL2Rγnull mice. In this model, we demonstrate that xenografting leads to the transient loss of LC from the human skin grafts. Rat dermis is a source of cells capable of growing in vitro and, in appropriate conditions, forming floating spheres constituted by nestin-positive cells. We have clonally grown these spheres up to the 15th generation. The decline in adolescents’ physical fitness (PF) in recent decades has raised concerns about current population’s possible future challenges with health and physical functional capacity. This study explored the associations between body composition, physical activity, maturation, and PF development in adolescents. Objective To study leukocyte–endothelium interaction, a measure of the initial phase of atheromatosis, in children with overweight or obesity. A biomechanical comparison of countermovement performance after short-term traditional and daily-undulated loaded vertical jump training.

In order to assess lower extremity muscle mechanical properties in athletes, power-load characteristics during multi-joint tasks are frequently examined. This work compared 6 weeks of traditional (TP) and daily-undulated (DUP) periodized loaded countermovement jumping (CMJ). 20 amateur athletes (age: 24.2 ± 2.6 years, height: 175.6 ± 7.1 cm, body mass: 71.5 ± 7.7 kg, 10 males/10 females) exercised three times weekly using maximal CMJs with loads corresponding to 0%, 15% and 30% of body mass. The effect of alertness and attention on the modulation of the beta rhythm to tactile stimulation

Abstract Beta rhythm modulation has been used as a biomarker to reflect the functional state of the sensorimotor cortex in both healthy subjects and patients. Here, the effect of reduced alertness and active attention to the stimulus on beta rhythm modulation was investigated. Auditory cortex reflects goal-directed movement but is not necessary for behavioral adaptation in sound-cued reward tracking

Mounting evidence suggests that the role of sensory cortices in perceptual decision making goes beyond the mere representation of the discriminative stimuli and additionally involves the representation of nonsensory variables such as reward expectation. However, the relevance of these representations for behavior is not clear. To address this issue, we trained rats to discriminate sounds in a single-interval forced-choice task and then confronted the animals with unsignaled blockwise changes of reward probabilities.
